Castor Avenue/Delaware Avenue Intersection to Close Beginning Next Week for Construction in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – The intersection of Castor Avenue and Delaware Avenue in Port Richmond will be closed for approximately one month beginning on Thursday, July 7, for reconstruction of the intersection, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Motorists will be detoured on Allegheny Avenue, Richmond Street, and Lewis Street around the closed intersection. Both Castor Avenue and Delaware Avenue will remain open to local traffic up to the intersection.

In addition, periodic weekday lane closures may be in place on the following streets in the vicinity of the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge on Mondays through Fridays in July beginning Tuesday, July 5, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for utility, road and sidewalk construction:

• Levick Street, both directions between Keystone Street and the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge ramp;
• New State Road, both directions between Levick Street and Unruh Avenue; and
• Elbridge Street, both directions between Tacony Street and New State Road.
  

Drivers are advised to use alternate routes or allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays may occur. All operations are weather dependent. 

Reconstruction of the intersection is being done under PennDOT's $31.2 million I-95/Section AF2 project to reconstruct and improve sections of Delaware, Allegheny and Castor avenues to enhance traffic movement on surface streets in the vicinity of the I-95 Allegheny/Castor Avenue Interchange.

The surface street work near the bridge is part of the $52.7 million I-95/Section CP3 project to construct new southbound I-95 on-ramp at Cottman Avenue and improve traffic flow on surface streets in the vicinity of the Cottman-Princeton Interchange.

PECO to Restrict Route 611 (Old York Road) Weeknights for Utility Improvements in Montgomery County

King of Prussia, PA – PECO Energy is planning a lane closure on Route 611 (Old York Road) between Madeira Avenue and Baeder Road, in Abington Township and Jenkintown Borough, Montgomery County, beginning Wednesday, July 6, for utility construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. The closure will be in place weeknights from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning through Friday, August 26, with a possibility of work during those hours on a Saturday or Sunday night.   

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

PECO Energy will complete this project under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.

U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) Continuous Lane Closures Next Week for Construction in Chadds Ford, Pennsbury Townships

King of Prussia, PA – U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) motorists will encounter continuous lane restrictions on U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) in both directions between Chadds Ford School Drive/Fairville Road and U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike) beginning at 9:00 AM Tuesday, July 5, through Friday, July 8, for various construction activities under a project to repair and resurface approximately six miles of the highway in Chadds Ford and Concord townships, Delaware County, and Pennsbury Township, Chester County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

In addition, a section of Thornton Road between Concord Road and U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) remains closed for roadway construction through Friday, July 22.

During the closure, southbound U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) motorists will be allowed to turn right at Thornton Road, while northbound U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) motorists will be directed to turn around at Cheyney Road and use southbound U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) to turn right on Thornton Road. No left turns will be permitted onto Thornton Road from U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike).

Northbound Thornton Road motorists will be directed to use Concord Road and U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike), while southbound Thornton Road motorists will still have access to southbound U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike). Local access will be maintained for residents and businesses.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) improvement project, PennDOT's contractor will mill, overlay, and rehabilitate the existing pavement; perform concrete patching and concrete base repair as needed; construct new concrete curbed median; install new pavement markings, rumble strips, delineators, and signs; and upgrade guiderail and curb ramps.

Allan Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the $13.7 million project, which is financed with 80% federal and 20% state funds. Physical construction on the project is expected to finish this fall.

PennDOT, USCG, Police, Philadelphia Fire Department, PFBC, AAA Remind Motorists and Boaters to Drive Sober and Be Safe this Independence Day

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today joined the United States Coast Guard (USCG), Philadelphia Police Marine Unit, Philadelphia Fire Department, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC), and AAA Mid-Atlantic in Philadelphia to promote driving and boating safety for the Independence Day holiday.

Participants discussed the need to remain vigilant while celebrating Fourth of July festivities; remaining sober while operating a vehicle or vessel is vital. The Philadelphia Police Marine Unit also demonstrated a mock Boating Under the Influence (BUI) stop.

"The Philadelphia Fire Department is glad to have so many partners capable of responding with us to water emergencies. Ideally, however, such incidents would never occur. Please, boat safely," said Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Adam K. Thiel.

Alcohol and drug use can impair a person's judgment and reaction time. Motorists who drive impaired, whether behind the wheel of a car or a boat, endanger themselves, their passengers, and others on the roadways and waterways.

From July 2 through July 4, PFBC waterways conservation officers (WCO) will participate in Operation Dry Water, a nationally organized effort to conduct enhanced boating under the influence (BUI) enforcement. WCOs are trained to detect signs of impaired boating and conduct sobriety tests on the water. The public is reminded that the legal limit for operating a motor vehicle or any watercraft, powered or unpowered, is .08 percent blood alcohol concentration. In addition, boaters are reminded to wear a life jacket, have a float plan, avoid summer storms that can cause treacherous fast and high-water conditions, designate a sober boater, and consider having no alcohol while aboard a boat since intoxicated passengers are also at risk of injury and falls overboard.

"Boating requires the operator to be aware of surroundings and be familiar with the waters they are boating on. On the Delaware River, this includes knowing what the tides and weather are for the time they plan on being on the water. Being aware of lighting conditions, other boating traffic, and special regulation areas are all part of boating. It's imperative that the operator be sober and aware of all these conditions. Please designate a sober operator for your boating trips," said PFBC Waterways Conservation Officer Erin Czech. Boaters are encouraged to review all current boating regulations, which can be found in the free Pennsylvania Boating Handbook on the PFBC website.

Summer travel is already in full swing, and Independence Day will be no exception as AAA predicts 47.9 million people will travel 50 miles or more from home over the holiday weekend (June 30 – July 4). This is an increase of 3.7% over 2021, bringing travel volumes just shy of those seen in 2019. The biggest surprise – car travel – will set a new record despite historically high gas prices, with 42 million people hitting the road. With crowded roads, AAA wants to prepare travelers so they can have a stress-free July Fourth celebration.

"The volume of travelers we expect to see over Independence Day is a definite sign that summer travel is kicking into high gear," said Jana Tidwell, manager of Public and Government Affairs for AAA Mid-Atlantic. "When venturing out, travelers should heed all rules of the road, including never drinking and driving. Impaired driving is 100% preventable. If you consume alcohol, marijuana, or use potentially impairing prescription medications, then don't drive. And if you're going to drive, don't consume these substances."

According to 2021 PennDOT data, there were 928 crashes and six fatalities in the Philadelphia region during the Fourth of July travel period beginning Saturday, June 26, and running through Monday, July 5. Of those, 71 crashes were impaired-driving related. 

PennDOT reminds motorists to never drive impaired. Take the keys away from a friend or loved one who is impaired to prevent them from driving, designate a sober driver, or use a rideshare app. Motorists should also obey the posted speed limit, never drive distracted, and always buckle up.

King of Prussia, PA – Geigel Hill Road is scheduled for a moving road closure between Durham Road and Headquarters Road in Tinicum Township, Bucks County, beginning Tuesday, July 5, for base repair, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. The moving road closure will remain in place weekdays, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, through early August.

I-95 Single, Double Lane Closures at Night Next Week for Construction in Delaware County

King of Prussia, PA – Single and double lane closures are scheduled at night next week on Interstate 95 in Delaware County between the U.S. 322/Commodore Barry Bridge (Exit 4) and Route 420 (Exit 9A/9B) interchanges for various construction activities under a project to rehabilitate pavement and repair 15 structures on more than 11 miles of the interstate in Lower Chichester, Upper Chichester, Chester, Ridley and Tinicum townships, the City of Chester and Upland and Ridley Park boroughs, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule is:

• Wednesday, July 6, through Friday, July 8, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a single lane closure will be in place on sections of northbound and southbound I-95;
• Wednesday, July 6, and Thursday, July 7, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a double lane closure will be in place on sections of northbound and southbound I-95;
• Friday, July 8, from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a double lane closure will be in place on sections of northbound and southbound I-95;
• Saturday, July 9, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a single lane closure will be in place on sections of northbound; and
• Saturday, July 9, from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a double lane closure will be in place on sections of northbound I-95.
  

In addition, the ramps from northbound I-95 to Ridley Park (Exit 8) and Route 420 (Exit 9A/9B) will be closed and detoured on Wednesday, July 6, through Saturday, July 9, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning. Northbound I-95 motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour routes.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will mill, overlay and rehabilitate the existing concrete pavement including 41 ramps; perform minor structural repairs to 15 of the 33 bridges located in the project limits; repair sections of median barrier; upgrade guide rail; install new pavement markings, delineators and rumble strips; repair and clean existing inlets and pipes; and replace damaged or missing traffic signs. The Pennsylvania Welcome Center just north of the Delaware state line also will be improved with concrete base repairs and new parking stripes, pavement markings and signs.

Allan A. Myers, Inc. of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the $73 million project, which is financed with 80% federal and 20% state funds. The entire project is expected to be completed in summer 2024.

I-76 East or West to Close at Night Next Week for Viaduct Construction in Center City Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Alternating closures of either eastbound or westbound Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in the vicinity of 30th Street in Center City Philadelphia will occur on Tuesday, July 5, through Friday, July 8, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for overhead viaduct construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

When eastbound I-76 is closed between 30th Street and South Street, traffic will be directed to use the off-ramp at 30th Street, turn left on Chestnut Street, then turn right on Schuylkill Avenue to the ramp back to eastbound I-76 at Walnut Street.

When westbound I-76 is closed between 30th Street and Interstate 676, I-76 motorists will exit at 30th Street and follow Schuylkill Avenue to the ramp back to westbound I-76 at Market Street.

In addition, motorists are reminded that eastbound Market Street (Route 3) is reduced to a single lane 24/7 between Schuylkill Avenue West and 24th Street for the next several months for repairs to the Market Street Bridge over the Schuylkill River.

Drivers are advised to use alternate routes or allow extra time when traveling through the work area because significant backups and delays will occur. All operations are weather dependent. 

The work is part of PennDOT's substantially completed $105.1 million project to rehabilitate the Chestnut Street bridge over the Schuylkill River — which reopened in March  — and eight other nearby structures, including the viaducts carrying Schuylkill Avenue over I-76 between Walnut Street and Market Street.

Buckley & Company Inc., of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 80% federal and 20% state funds. The entire project is scheduled to finish this summer.

CSX Railroad to Close Woodbourne Road for Track Maintenance in Middletown Township

King of Prussia, PA – CSX Railroad is planning to close Woodbourne Road between Butternut Lane and Wood Lane in Middletown Township, Bucks County, from 7:00 AM Sunday, July 10, to 6:00 PM Saturday, July 16, for railroad crossing replacement, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

During the 24/7 closure, Woodbourne Road motorists will be directed to use Route 213 (Maple Avenue), Route 413 (Pine Street), Winchester Avenue, and Langhorne Yardley Road. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. 

CSX Railroad will complete this project under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.

The closure will be in place Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM through Friday, August 5.

During the closure, Darby Creek Road motorists will be directed to use Lawrence Road, Ellis Road, Ardmore Avenue, Darby Road, and Marple Road. Local access will be maintained up to the work zone.

King of Prussia, PA – PECO Energy is planning to close westbound Oregon Avenue between Swanson Street and Front Street in Philadelphia beginning at 6:00 AM Wednesday, July 6, for utility construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. The westbound closure will be in place 24/7 through Wednesday, July 20.

During the closure, westbound Oregon Avenue motorists will be directed to use Christopher Columbus Boulevard, Pattison Avenue, and Front Street. 

Due to the location of the work zone, large trucks will be prohibited from turning right from northbound Front Street onto eastbound Oregon Avenue. The truck detour will direct drivers to use Front Street, Pattison Avenue, and Christopher Columbus Boulevard. Local access will be maintained up to the work zone.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

PennDOT to Begin 5th Street Bridge Removal, Roadway Reconstruction in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction will begin Tuesday, July 5, on an improvement project to remove the 5th Street bridge over the abandoned Conrail line, and reconstruct the roadway between Hunting Park Avenue and Bristol Street in the Hunting Park section of Philadelphia.  

The 5th Street structure is one of two deteriorating bridges that PennDOT is removing under a $7.8 million project, which is financed with 100% state funds. Construction finished last month to remove the bridge that carried Erie Avenue over an abandoned Conrail line and to rebuild the roadway between 3^rd Street and Lawrence Street.

Beginning Tuesday, July 5, 5th Street will be closed and detoured between Hunting Park Avenue and Bristol Street through July 2023 for bridge demolition and roadway reconstruction.  

Bristol Street will also be closed and detoured at the intersection with 5^th Street beginning Tuesday, July 5, through early November, for water main relocation.

During the closures, the following detours (maps below) will be in place for passenger vehicles, trucks and pedestrians:

• Northbound 5th Street Passenger and Truck Detour: Left on Hunting Park Avenue, Right on 6th Street and Right on Cayuga Street;
  

• Southbound 5th Street Passenger Vehicle Detour When Bristol Street Is Closed: Right on Cayuga Street, Left on 6^th Street and Left on Hunting Park Avenue;
  

• Southbound 5th Street Passenger Vehicle Detour When Bristol Street Is Open: Left on Bristol Street, Right on Rising Sun Avenue and Right on Hunting Park Avenue;
  

• Southbound 5th Street Truck Detour: Turn left on Wyoming Avenue, Right on Rising Sun Avenue and Right on Hunting Park Avenue; and
  

• Pedestrian Detour: Bristol Street, 3rd Street and Hunting Park Avenue.
  

Local access will be maintained up to the closures. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area or on the detour routes because backups and delays will occur.

The purpose of this project is to remove a deteriorating bridge in poor condition, provide a long-term transportation facility that is built to current standards and capable of handling the volume of expected traffic along this city street, and ensure a safe and efficient movement of multi-model transportation along a locally important network.

King of Prussia PA – Interstate 95, Interstate 76, and Interstate 476 are among state highways restricted next week in Philadelphia, Delaware, and Montgomery counties for bridge inspections and guiderail operations, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedules and locations are:

• Monday, June 27, through Thursday, June 30, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, periodic alternating lane closures are scheduled in both directions on I-95 between the eastbound Route 291 and the I-76/Walt Whitman Bridge interchanges in Tinicum Township, Delaware County and Philadelphia for guiderail installation;
• Monday, June 27, through Thursday, June 30, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, lane closures are scheduled in both directions on I-476 between the Media/Swarthmore and the Interstate 276 interchanges in Nether Providence, Springfield, Marple, Haverford, Radnor, Lower Merion, Plymouth townships and West Conshohocken Borough in Delaware and Montgomery counties for guiderail installation;
• Monday, June 27, through Thursday, June 30, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, lane closures are scheduled in both directions on I-76 between the Interstate 276 and the southbound U.S. 1 (City Avenue) interchanges in Upper Merion and Lower Merion townships for guiderail installation; and

• Tuesday, June 28, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, a left lane closure is scheduled on southbound I-95 between the Columbus Boulevard and the I-76/Walt Whitman Bridge interchanges for bridge inspection.

King of Prussia, PA – Several state highways are restricted in Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties for resurfacing operations as part of several projects to repair and resurface more than 200 miles of state highway across the Philadelphia region, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedules and locations are:

Philadelphia

• Monday, June 27, through Thursday, June 30, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, periodic lane closures are scheduled in both directions on Market Street between 34^th Street and the Delaware County line for prepping operations;
• Monday, June 27, through Thursday, June 30, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Welsh Road between Kismet Road and Route 532 (Bustleton Avenue), and Welsh Road between U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) and Ashton Road for milling operations; and
• Thursday, June 30, 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Route 73 (Cottman Avenue) between Castor Avenue and U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) for milling operations.

Bucks County

• Wednesday, July 6, through Friday, July 22, weekdays, and Sunday nights from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, alternating lane closures are scheduled in both directions on U.S. 202 (Lower York Road/Buckingham Road) between Durham Road and Bridge Street in Solebury and Buckingham townships for milling and paving operations.

Chester County

• Sunday, June 26, through Thursday, June 30, from 6:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Route 724 (Schuylkill Road) between Whartnaby Street and Park Road/Hill Church Road) in North Coventry, East Vincent, and East Coventry townships for paving operations; and
• Monday, June 27, through Thursday, June 30, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, a lane closure is scheduled on northbound U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) between Route 52 (Kennett Pike) and the Delaware County Line in Pennsbury and Kennett townships for sealing operations.

Delaware County

• Sunday, June 26, through Tuesday, June 28, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Route 352 (Middletown Road) between Barren Road and Route 926 (Street Road) in Thornbury, Edgmont and Middletown townships for paving operations;

Under these seven resurfacing improvement projects, PennDOT is spending over $85 million milling the existing roadway surfaces and repaving the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.

King of Prussia, PA – Overnight ramp closures are scheduled at the Interstate 95 and the Route 611 (Broad Street) interchanges in Philadelphia, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, for milling and paving operations under a project to repair and resurface 44 miles of state highways in Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedules and locations are:

• Friday, June 24, a closure is scheduled on the southbound Route 611 (Broad Street) ramp to southbound I-95. During the closure, motorists will be directed to use Pattison Avenue and Penrose Avenue; and
• Monday, June 27, a closure is scheduled on the northbound I-95 ramp to Route 611 (Broad Street)/Pattisson Avenue. During the closure, motorists will be directed to use the Interstate 76 East/Packer Avenue Interchange, Packer Avenue, and Route 611 (Broad Street).

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT's contractor is milling and resurfacing 12 state highways using bituminous material and performing various maintenance roadway enhancements.

Tony DePaul and Son, of Flourtown, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the $9.8 million project, which is financed with 100% state funds.

Eastbound Market Street (Route 3) Reduced to One Lane over Schuylkill River for Bridge Repair in Center City Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Eastbound Market Street (Route 3) is reduced to a single lane between Schuylkill Avenue West (near Amtrak's 30th Street Station) and 24th Street for the next several months for repairs to the Market Street Bridge over the Schuylkill River in Center City Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The right lane restriction, which will remain in place 24/7, will allow crews to complete necessary repairs to the subsurface utility manhole vaults at the structure's east and west abutments and to its deck. The repairs are expected to take a minimum of several months to complete.

Final Design engineering continues for a major rehabilitation of the Market Street Bridge. Construction bids on the project are expected to open by late 2024.

Drivers are advised to avoid the work area because significant backups and delays will occur on both eastbound Market Street and on the Schuylkill Avenue West approach to the bridge during repairs at the west abutment.

Aqua Pennsylvania to Close Waterloo Avenue for Utility Improvement in Easttown Township

King of Prussia, PA – Aqua Pennsylvania is planning to close Waterloo Avenue between Lindsey Drive and Hillside Avenue in Easttown Township, Chester County, beginning Monday, July 11, for utility construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. The closure will be in place Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM through Friday, July 22.

During the closure, motorists will be directed to use Sugartown Road, Waterloo Road, and U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue). Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.   

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Aqua Pennsylvania will complete this project under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.

U.S. 422 Lane Closures Next Week for Bridge Repair in Limerick Township

King of Prussia, PA – U.S. 422 motorists will encounter alternating left and right lane and shoulder closures next week in both directions between Township Line Road and Evergreen Road for bridge repair under a project to rehabilitate pavement and repair seven structures along a five-mile section of U.S. 422 between the Royersford/Trappe and Sanatoga interchanges in Limerick and Lower Pottsgrove townships, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule is:

• Westbound U.S. 422 on Monday, June 27, through Friday, July 1, from 5:00 AM to 2:00 PM; and
• Eastbound U.S. 422 on Monday, June 27, through Friday, July 1, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
  

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT's contractor will mill, overlay and rehabilitate existing U.S. 422 pavement; perform bridge deck repairs, concrete and joint patching, sealing and drainage improvements; install new guide rail and rumble strips; and repair or replace damaged traffic signs along the corridor.

H & K Group Inc. of Skippack, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 100% federal funds. Construction on the entire project is expected to finish this summer.

PennDOT to Host Job Fairs for Open Positions in Philadelphia Region-On-the-Spot interviews to be held for CDL operators

King of Prussia PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will host job fairs at its Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery County Maintenance facilities on Tuesday, July 12, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, in an effort to reach qualified candidates throughout the region to fill vacancies in all four counties.

Those interested in a career with PennDOT are encouraged to attend one of the job fair locations to learn about the following opportunities:

• Transportation Equipment Operator-A;
• Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee;
• Diesel Construction Equipment Mechanic;
• Diesel Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee; and
• Maintenance Repairman 2.

 
All positions will be posted online at www.employment.pa.gov two weeks before the scheduled job fairs and applicants are encouraged to submit their application through the website whether they can attend or not attend the job fairs. Applicants may also view other positions on the website available in the Philadelphia region and statewide.  

If for any reason an applicant cannot complete an application on the website before the scheduled job fairs, staff members with laptops will be available at all four job fairs to help interested participants navigate the electronic application system.

For positions that require a Commercial Driver's License, PennDOT will conduct on-the-spot interviews for CDL operators. Driving tests will also be administered the same day, if available. CDL operators should bring their current driver's license and medical examiner certificate to the job fair. Requirements for a CDL will be posted on the job description on the employment website. Please note, PennDOT will train an employee for a CDL if hired for the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee position.

Applicants do not have to live in the county for the job they are applying for and can attend any of the following job fair locations:

I-76 East or West to Close at Night Next Week for Viaduct Construction in Center City Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Alternating closures of either eastbound or westbound Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in the vicinity of 30th Street in Center City Philadelphia will occur on Monday, June 27, through Thursday, June 30, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for overhead viaduct construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

When eastbound I-76 is closed between 30th Street and South Street, traffic will be directed to use the off-ramp at 30th Street, turn left on Chestnut Street, then turn right on Schuylkill Avenue to the ramp back to eastbound I-76 at Walnut Street.

When westbound I-76 is closed between 30th Street and Interstate 676, I-76 motorists will exit at 30th Street and follow Schuylkill Avenue to the ramp back to westbound I-76 at Market Street.

Drivers are advised to use alternate routes or allow extra time when traveling through the work area because significant backups and delays will occur. All operations are weather dependent. 

The work is part of PennDOT's substantially completed $105.1 million project to rehabilitate the Chestnut Street bridge over the Schuylkill River — which reopened in March  — and eight other nearby structures, including the viaducts carrying Schuylkill Avenue over I-76 between Walnut Street and Market Street.

Buckley & Company Inc., of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 80% federal and 20% state funds. The entire project is scheduled to finish this summer.

I-95 Single, Double Lane Closures at Night Next Week for Construction in Delaware County

King of Prussia, PA – Single and double lane closures are scheduled at night next week and continuously next weekend on Interstate 95 in Delaware County between the U.S. 322/Commodore Barry Bridge (Exit 4) and Route 420 (Exit 9A/9B) interchanges for various construction activities under a project to rehabilitate pavement and repair 15 structures on more than 11 miles of the interstate in Lower Chichester, Upper Chichester, Chester, Ridley and Tinicum townships, the City of Chester and Upland and Ridley Park boroughs, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule is:

• Monday, June 27, through Friday, July 1, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a single lane closure will be in place on sections of northbound and southbound I-95; and
• Monday, June 27, through Friday, July 1, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a double lane closure will be in place on sections of northbound and southbound I-95.
  

In addition, the ramps from northbound I-95 to Ridley Park (Exit 8) and Route 420 (Exit 9A/9B) will be closed and detoured on Monday, June 27, through Friday, July 1, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning for resurfacing operations. Northbound I-95 motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour routes.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will mill, overlay and rehabilitate the existing concrete pavement including 41 ramps; perform minor structural repairs to 15 of the 33 bridges located in the project limits; repair sections of median barrier; upgrade guide rail; install new pavement markings, delineators and rumble strips; repair and clean existing inlets and pipes; and replace damaged or missing traffic signs. The Pennsylvania Welcome Center just north of the Delaware state line also will be improved with concrete base repairs and new parking stripes, pavement markings and signs.

Allan A. Myers, Inc. of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the $73 million project, which is financed with 80% federal and 20% state funds. The entire project is expected to be completed in summer 2024.
