Adult Mosquito Spraying in Upper Providence Township on September 2, 2022

  • Upper Providence mosquito spray area 9.2.22

Adult Mosquito Spraying in Selected Areas of Upper Providence Township on Fri, Sept 2 from approx. 8pm-10pm.

The Montgomery County Office of Public Health (OPH), after consulting with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) and Upper Providence Township officials, will be adulticiding (spraying) to control the adult mosquito population in selected areas. The spraying will be done where sampling by the OPH and PADEP has shown mosquitoes that carry the West Nile Virus (WNV). For notification of any future spray events, sign up with "ReadyMontco" at www.montcopa.org/ReadyMontco

The spray event will occur, weather permitting, Friday, September 2, 2022, from approximately 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The alternate date will be Thursday, September 8, 2022. All areas within the highlighted sections of the attached map will be subjected to the spray. Residents within the spray area should consider remaining indoors, closing windows and turning off ventilation systems that draw in outside air for the duration of the spray plus 30 minutes afterward.

Workers will be using Duet® Duel-Action Adulticide at a rate of .75 fluid ounces per acre applied with a truck mounted Ultra Low Volume (ULV)sprayer. The spray will be performed by OPH personnel.

The OPH will work with appropriate agencies to identify, eliminate and/or treat with larvacide, areas where mosquitoes are breeding. Residents may contact the OPH at 610.278.5117 if they are concerned about an area of standing water that may be breeding mosquitoes. The adult mosquito control program will only be used in limited situations to reduce disease-infected adult mosquitoes.

For further information about the products being used, visit the OPH website at www.montcopa.org/wnvinfo

Some tips for around the home to help eliminate mosquito-breeding areas:

  • Identify and eliminate all sources of standing water that collect on your property. Mosquitoes will breed in any stagnant water that lasts for five or more days.
  • Dispose of tin cans, plastic containers, ceramic pots or similar water-holding containers that have collected on your property. Do no overlook containers that have become overgrown by aquatic vegetation.
  • Pay special attention to discarded tires that may have collected water on your property. They can serve as a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
  • Drill holes in the bottom of recycling containers that are left outdoors. Drainage holes that are located on the container sides collect enough water for mosquitoes to breed in.
  • Have clogged roof gutters cleaned on an annual basis, particularly if the leaves from surrounding trees have a tendency to block drains.
  • Turn over plastic wading pools when not in use. A wading pool becomes a place for mosquitoes to breed if it is not used on a regular basis.
  • Turn over wheelbarrows and do not allow water to stagnate in birdbaths.
  • Aerate ornamental pools or stock them with fish. Water gardens are fashionable but become major mosquito breeding grounds if they are allowed to stagnate.
  • Keep swimming pools clean and chlorinated. A swimming pool that is left untended becomes a source of mosquito breeding. Be aware that mosquitoes may even breed in the water that collects on swimming pool covers.

King of Prussia, PA – Southbound U.S. 1 will be reduced to one lane between the Penndel/Business U.S. 1 and Pennsylvania Turnpike interchanges in Bensalem Township, Bucks County, on Sunday, August 28, through Thursday, August 31, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning for shoulder reconstruction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

In addition, periodic lane restrictions also may be in place Tuesday, August 30 through Friday, September 2, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM for construction activities on northbound and southbound U.S. 1 between Old Lincoln Highway and the Pennsylvania Turnpike interchange and on eastbound and/or westbound Street Road (Route 132) between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way.

Motorists also are reminded that southbound Old Lincoln Highway remains closed through mid-September from the ramp to southbound U.S.1 to Bristol Road in Middletown Township for reconstruction. PennDOT - District 6 News

PennDOT to Begin Worthington Mill Road Bridge Replacement Project in Wrightstown, Northampton Townships

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction will begin on Monday, August 29, on a project to replace the Worthington Mill Road bridge over Neshaminy Creek in Wrightstown and Northampton townships, Bucks County.

Under this contract, PennDOT's contractor will remove and replace the 68-year-old, single-lane structure with a wider three-span composite prestressed concrete structure measuring 84 feet in length and 32 feet in width. The new bridge will allow for two lanes of traffic to travel across the structure, compared to the current one lane crossing.

Worthington Mill Road bridge, which carries approximately 2,600 vehicles daily, was closed between Twining Road and Swamp Road in September 2021 after the roadway approaches sustained heavy deterioration due to flood waters caused by Hurricane Ida.

During construction, Worthington Mill Road motorists will continue to be directed to use Swamp Road and Route 232 (Second Street Pike). Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. The closure will remain in place until the project completion in Summer 2024.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

H&K Group, Inc., of Skippack, PA is the general contractor on the $4.5 million project, which is financed with 100% state funds.
