ReadyMontco - Upper Providence Twp Emergency Alert

This is a message from ReadyMontco

Please click here to acknowledge receipt of this message

This is a message from Upper Providence Office of Emergency Management:
Yeager Rd between Mingo Rd and South Lewis Rd will be closed due to a utility fire. At 11:30pm on Friday November 7, Upper Providence Fire Department and Police Department responded to a utility fire with wires down and on fire in the area of Yeager Road and Andrew Way. Firefighters found a high voltage power line down on Yeager Road that caused the underground gas main to catch on fire. There was no danger to any houses and the gas fire was allowed to burn. It is much safer to allow the gas to burn until it can be shut off. Extinguishing the fire would allow uncontrolled natural gas to flow. PECO crews arrived on location and they secured the electric to begin the process of fixing both the gas main and electric wires. Verizon also has damaged wires and is on location and will begin repairs when they have access. Yeager Road is expected to be closed for most of the day. The fire will continue to burn until PECO isolates the main sometime this morning. Electric will remain off for the residents of the Indian Creek Development. Upper Providence Fire Department remains on location keeping the trees and vegetation in the area from burning and monitoring the safety of the residents. Please stay away from the area and only call 911 for emergencies. Updates will be provided on the UPT Fire Department Facebook Page
