I-95 Double Lane Closure Next Week for Bridge Painting in the City of Chester

King of Prussia, PA – A double lane closure is planned on Interstate 95 in both directions between the U.S. 322 and Interstate 476 interchanges on Tuesday, July 6, through Saturday, July 17, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, for bridge painting under a project to rehabilitate eight bridges over I-95 and CSX Railroad the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling on I-95 through the work areas because backups and delays will occur.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT is rehabilitating the multi-span, steel girder bridges on Potter Street, Madison Street, Upland Street, Melrose Avenue, Chestnut Street, Edgmont Avenue, and the Crosby Street and Walnut Street pedestrian structures. The contractor is also improving the I-95 south exit ramp at Chestnut Street.

In addition to the bridge and ramp improvements, PennDOT's contractor is repairing Chestnut Street and Morton Avenue from 12th Street to 4th Street; reconstructing curbs and sidewalks; milling and resurfacing the streets; installing a new traffic signal at Chestnut Street and Morton Avenue; upgrading the traffic signal at Morton Avenue and 7th Street; and reconstructing Morton Avenue from 7th Street to 4th Street to lower the road under the Amtrak overpass to increase vertical clearance.   

South State, Inc. of Bridgeton, N.J. is the general contractor on this project which is financed with 100 percent state funds.

I-95 South Lane Closure at Night Next Week for Bridge Repair in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Southbound Interstate 95 motorists will encounter a single lane closure between Market Street and 26th Street in Philadelphia on Wednesday, July 7, through Friday, July 9, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning for bridge repair under a project to perform high-priority repairs on 13 structures on I-95, Interstate 295 and Interstate 476 in Philadelphia, Bucks and Delaware counties, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Repairs to the 13 structures include replacing rocker bearings, frozen sliding plate bearings and deck expansion joints; cleaning and painting steel beams; repairing substructure concrete; and reconstructing bearing pedestals.

In addition, the project includes the replacement of 24 high mast light poles along the I-95 corridor in Philadelphia and Delaware counties.

Driscoll Construction Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the $33.9 million project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. Construction is expected to finish in late 2023.

I-76 West to Close at Night Next Week at 30th Street for Overhead Viaduct Construction in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Westbound Interstate 76 at 30th Street or the westbound off-ramp to 30th Street will be closed alternately on Tuesday, July 6, through Thursday, July 8, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for overhead viaduct construction in Center City Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

In addition, eastbound and westbound I-76 will be reduced to a single lane between South Street and University Avenue from 7:00 PM Friday, July 9, to 5:00 AM Saturday, July 10, for miscellaneous "punch list" construction activities on the viaduct. 

Friday night's lane closures mark the completion of more than two years of work on a project that rehabilitated the deteriorated, mile-long viaduct that carries I-76 traffic between the I-676 and University Avenue interchanges. Since starting construction in spring 2019, PennDOT's contractor has repaired the support columns beneath the viaduct; cleaned and refurbished the viaduct's stormwater drainage system; repaired the concrete deck's expansion dams and parapets; milled and repaved the viaduct's riding surface; and installed a new concrete median barrier.

The project also rehabilitated the bridge that carries the Schuylkill Expressway over Route 23 and Arrowmink Creek in West Conshohocken Borough, and completed similar repairs to several other I-76 bridges and culverts in Montgomery County.

When westbound I-76 is closed during the week, traffic will be detoured to the off-ramp at 30th Street and follow Schuylkill Avenue to the ramp back to westbound I-76 at Market Street.

When the westbound off-ramp to 30th Street is closed during the week, westbound I-76 also will be reduced to one lane between 30th Street and Interstate 676. Off-ramp traffic will be detoured east on Interstate 676, exit at 23rd Street, turn left on 22nd Street to the ramp to I-676 west, then take the ramp to I-76 east and the exit at 30th Street.

The weeknight lane and ramp closures — part of PennDOT's project to rehabilitate the Chestnut Street bridge over the Schuylkill River and eight other nearby structures — will allow crews to continue installing overhead electrical conduit and repairing the retaining wall between the expressway and the Schuylkill River.

Drivers are advised to use alternate routes or allow extra time when traveling through the work areas as backups and delays may occur.  All operations are weather dependent.

King of Prussia, PA – Northbound U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) motorists will encounter a lane closure at various locations between Hoffman Mill Road and U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike) on Wednesday, July 7, and Thursday, July 8, from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM the following morning, and from 7:00 PM Friday, July 9, to 7:00 AM Monday, July 12, for saw cutting and concrete patching operations under a project to repair and resurface approximately six miles of U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) in Chadds Ford and Concord townships, Delaware County and Pennsbury Township, Chester County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur due to these operations. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will mill, overlay and rehabilitate the existing pavement; perform concrete patching and concrete base repair as needed; construct new concrete curbed median; install new pavement markings, rumble strips, delineators and signs; and upgrade guiderail and curb ramps.

Allan Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the $13.7 million project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.

King of Prussia, PA – U.S. 422 motorists will encounter lane and shoulder closures next week for various construction activities under a project to rehabilitate pavement and repair seven structures along a five-mile section of U.S. 422 between the Royersford/Trappe and Sanatoga interchanges in Limerick and Lower Pottsgrove townships, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule and locations are:

• Tuesday, July 6, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, a right lane and shoulder closure will be in place on westbound U.S. 422 between Township Line Road and Evergreen Road and the ramps to the Sanatoga and Limerick interchanges for asphalt sealing and sign installation;
• Wednesday, July 7, and Thursday, July 8, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, alternating left and right lane and shoulder closures will be in place on eastbound U.S. 422 between Airport Road and Lewis Road for bridge deck sealing; and
• Wednesday, July 7, through Friday, July 9, from 5:00 AM to 2:00 PM, a right lane and shoulder closure will be in place on westbound U.S. 422 between Township Line Road and Evergreen Road and the ramps to the Sanatoga and Limerick interchanges for asphalt sealing and sign installation.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT's contractor will mill, overlay and rehabilitate existing U.S. 422 pavement; perform bridge deck repairs, concrete and joint patching, sealing and drainage improvements; install new guide rail and rumble strips; and repair or replace damaged traffic signs along the corridor.

U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) Long-Term Lane Closures Planned for Construction in Montgomery County

King of Prussia, PA – Alternating lane closures are scheduled in both directions on U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike), Germantown Pike, Township line Road and Johnson Highway beginning Tuesday, July 6, for construction activities under a project to improve, widen and reconstruct approximately 1.8 miles of U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) from Johnson Highway to Township Line Road in Norristown and East Norriton and Whitpain townships, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. The lane closures will be in place weekdays, except for holidays, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM through Friday, December 31, 2021.

The work locations are:

• U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) between Johnson Highway and Swede Road;
• Germantown Pike between Mill Road and Hannah Avenue;
• Township line Road between Butchers Lane and Dekalb Boulevard; and
• Johnson Highway between Bradbury Drive and Old Arch Road.

Motorists are advised to allow more time for travel in the work areas because backups and slowdowns will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT's contractor will: 

• Reconstruct and widen U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) from the existing two lanes to two lanes northbound, one lane southbound and a center turn lane from Johnson Highway to Township Line Road;
• Install five-foot bicycle lanes in both directions along the entire project area;
• Build new sidewalks at various locations;
• Reconstruct one bridge and one box culvert;
• Construct two sound walls and retaining walls;
• Install new signals, signing and pavement markings;
• Perform drainage improvements; and
• Integrate Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to improve traffic flow.

This improvement project will utilize staged construction and require an extensive amount of utility relocation operations. There will be lane closures on U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) and other state highways throughout the project area during off-peak travel hours. To reconstruct portions of the Johnson Highway, Germantown Pike, Township Line Road intersections with U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike), weekend detours will be implemented as needed.

This project is a critical part of a multi-phase program to reconstruct, widen and improve travel on a 9.1-mile section of U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) and selected intersections between Johnson Highway in Norristown and Route 309 in Montgomery Township.

Allan Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the $54,307,555 project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. Construction on the entire project is expected to finish in fall 2027.

I-76 West Nighttime Lane Closure Next Week for Resurfacing in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – A left lane closure is scheduled on westbound Interstate 76 between the Girard Avenue and Montgomery Drive interchanges in Philadelphia, on Tuesday, July 6, through Friday, July 9, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for milling and paving operations under a project to improve travel and safety on the Schuylkill Expressway in Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this project, milling and paving will take place on I-76 in both directions between the Montgomery Drive and Girard Avenue/U.S. 13 interchanges, as well as portions of the Montgomery Drive interchange ramps. Most of the paving will occur overnight. The deteriorating concrete median barrier will also be replaced, and high-friction surface treatment will be installed in select areas along I-76 to improve safety during inclement weather.

Milling and paving operations, as well as guiderail and concrete median replacements, will also occur on Route 82 (Manor Road/1st Street) in the City of Coatesville and Valley Township, Chester County. In addition, PennDOT's contractor will reconfigure the Wagontown Road and Route 82 (Manor Road/1st Street) intersection to require vehicles to stop prior to entering Route 82 (Manor Road1st Street).

Road-Con, Inc. of West Chester, Chester County, is the general contractor on the $3,265,646 project which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. The entire project is expected to be completed this fall.
