I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) Overnight Lane Closures Next Week for Large Sign Maintenance in Montgomery, Philadelphia Counties

King of Prussia PA – Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) motorists will encounter periodic lane closures in Montgomery and Philadelphia counties on Monday, January 17, through Thursday, January 20, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, for large sign maintenance, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work locations are:

• Eastbound at the U.S. 202/U.S. 422 Interchange in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County;
• Both directions at the Interstate 476 Interchange in West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County;
• Westbound at the Route 23/Conshohocken Interchange in West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County;
• Westbound at the southbound U.S. 1 (City Avenue) Interchange in Philadelphia;
• Both directions at the northbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway/Roosevelt Boulevard) Interchange in Philadelphia;
• Eastbound at the Montgomery Drive Interchange in Philadelphia;
• Eastbound at the westbound U.S. 30/Girard Avenue Interchange in Philadelphia;
• Eastbound at the Spring Garden Street Interchange in Philadelphia;
• Eastbound at the Interstate 676 Interchange in Philadelphia;
• Westbound at the South Street Interchange in Philadelphia; and
• Westbound at the 30^th Street Interchange in Philadelphia.

 Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and slowdowns may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT is replacing and repairing large sign structures throughout the Philadelphia region.

Kriger Construction, Inc. of Scranton, Pennsylvania is the general contractor on the $2,937,500 project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds.

Henry Avenue Periodic Lane Closure for Safety Improvement Project in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – A periodic right lane closure is scheduled on southbound Henry Avenue between Barnes Street and Dupont Street in Philadelphia, on Monday, January 17, through Friday, January 21, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, under a project to improve travel and safety on a 3.2-mile section of Henry Avenue, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will install or upgrade traffic signals at several intersections to include new mast arms, controllers, signal heads, timing optimization, signal interconnectivity and pedestrian countdown timers. Updated traffic signal timing will be implemented at the Walnut Lane intersection and a traffic signal will be installed at the Barnes Street Intersection, as well as a red-light warning flashing signal just north of the Port Royal Intersection.

Additional improvements on Henry Avenue include: New signing and roadway design features through pavement markings; Milling and resurfacing; Median widening; and Guiderail replacement.

To improve traffic flow and reduce congestion on Henry Avenue, improvements include: Extending the southbound restricted parking between Monastery Avenue and Walnut Lane; Eliminating the channelized right turn lanes at the Gates Street and Wigard Avenue intersections; Adding a raised concrete median at Valley Avenue to eliminate left turns; and Lengthening the northbound left turn lane at Livezey Lane.

To enhance pedestrian and bicyclist mobility, the contractor will construct a shared-use bicycle and pedestrian path along the east side of Henry Avenue between Barnes Street and Walnut Lane. Other safety enhancements include installing bump-outs at 15 intersections and ADA curb ramps at various intersections along the corridor.

The project will feature the addition of speed calming measures on this section of Henry Avenue that sees an average daily traffic volume of 29,000 vehicles daily. The features include 35 mph pavement markings adjacent to speed limit signs; oversized speed limit signs with orange diamonds; electronic speed feedback signs north of Leverington Avenue and north of Cinnaminson Street; and speed limit signs and hidden driveway signs south of Cinnaminson Street. 

The project will also address storm water management through storm drainage, water facility relocation, and green stormwater infrastructure. 

During construction, PennDOT will maintain traffic on Henry Avenue by utilizing long-term lane shifts and short-term lane closures.

Road-Con, Inc. of West Chester, Chester County is the general contractor on the $12.8 million project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. The entire project is scheduled to finish in late 2023. More information is available at www.Penndot.gov/HenryAvePhilly.

King of Prussia, PA – Periodic weekday lane closures are scheduled on Route 232 (Second Street Pike) and Creamery Road in Bucks County on Wednesday, January 19, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for debris removal from Tropical Storm Ida in early September, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. The periodic lane closes will remain in place through early February.

The work locations are:

U.S. 1 North Lane Closure at Night Next Week for Construction in Bucks County

King of Prussia, PA - Northbound U.S. 1 in Bucks County will be reduced to a single lane between the Neshaminy and the Penndel/Business U.S.1 interchanges in Bensalem Township on Monday, January 17, through Thursday, January 20, from 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM the following morning for excavation to widen the expressway, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

In addition, periodic lane restrictions also may be in place Mondays through Thursdays from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning for construction on northbound and southbound U.S. 1 between Old Lincoln Highway and the Pennsylvania Turnpike interchange and on eastbound and/or westbound Street Road (Route 132) between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way in Bensalem Township.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas. All scheduled activities are weather dependent. 

Crews are reconstructing and widening almost three miles of U.S. 1, improving the interchanges, and constructing several new bridges — including new structures over the Neshaminy Creek and over rail lines near the Penndel exit— under two contracts (RC1, RC2) to rebuild, widen and improve U.S.1 in Bucks County.

JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA, is the general contractor on the $110.8 million Section RC2 project that is scheduled be completed in mid-2026. Alan Myers Construction, of Worcester, PA, is the general contractor on the $95 million Section RC1 project that is expected to be completed in mid-2022.

Sections RC1 and RC2 are two of the three construction contracts to rebuild and widen U.S. 1; replace aging bridges; and install safety enhancements along a four-mile section of expressway from just north of Philadelphia to just north of Route 413 (Pine Street) in Middletown Township and Langhorne Borough.

King of Prussia, PA – Northbound Interstate 95 motorists will encounter lane closures between Spruce Street and Race Street in Philadelphia on Thursday, January 20, and Friday, January 21, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning for barrier installation under a project to perform high-priority repairs on 13 structures on I-95, Interstate 295 and Interstate 476 in Philadelphia, Bucks and Delaware counties, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Repairs to the 13 structures include replacing rocker bearings, frozen sliding plate bearings and deck expansion joints; cleaning and painting steel beams; repairing substructure concrete; and reconstructing bearing pedestals.

In addition, the project includes the replacement of 24 high mast light poles along the I-95 corridor in Philadelphia and Delaware counties.

Driscoll Construction Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the $33.9 million project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. Construction is expected to finish in late 2023.

Markley Street (U.S. 202 South), Main Street Travel Restrictions Next Week for Construction in Norristown

King of Prussia, PA – Southbound Markley Street (U.S. 202 South) will be reduced to one lane between Marshall Street and Main Street on Monday, January 17, through Friday, January 21, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM for installation of temporary traffic signal poles in Norristown, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

In addition, periodic lane closures will be in place on Main Street at the intersection during the pole installation.

Northbound U.S. 202 motorists headed to Norristown are advised to follow the project detour that uses DeKalb Pike starting in Bridgeport to avoid congestion at the Markley Street/Main Street intersection on the north side of the Dannehower Bridge.

Motorists should allow extra time for travel through or near the work areas because backups and delays will occur.  All operations are weather dependent. 

Reconstruction activities are now underway on the southbound side of Markley Street (U.S. 202 South) along with improvements at Markley Street (U.S. 202 South) intersections with Main Street and Marshall Street.

Allan Myers, LP, of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. Construction on the entire project is expected to finish in late 2022.
