Resurfacing Scheduled on Several State Highways Next Week in Philadelphia Region

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that resurfacing is scheduled on several state highways next week in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties under several projects to repair and pave more than 200 miles of state highway across the Philadelphia region.

The work schedules and locations are:

Bucks County

  • Wednesday, October 26, through Friday, November 18, weekdays, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a lane closure is scheduled on County Line Road/Main Street between Bethlehem Pike and Hillcroft Way in Telford, West Rockhill, and Hilltown townships for milling and paving.

Chester County

  • Monday, October 24, through Thursday, November 3, weekdays, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a lane closure with flagging is scheduled on Route 29 (State Road) between Hollow Road and Pickering Dam Road in Charlestown Township for high friction surface treatment; and
  • Monday, October 24, through Friday, November 4, weekdays, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a lane closure with flagging is scheduled on Whitford Road between Longwood Drive and Wrights Lane in Uwchlan and West Whiteland townships for high friction service treatment.

Delaware County

  • Sunday, October 23, through Wednesday, October 26, from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Crum Creek Road between Beatty Road and State Road in Upper Providence and Nether Providence townships for milling and paving;
  • Sunday, October 23, through Thursday, October 27, from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on St. Davids Road between Church Road and the Route 252 (Darby Paoli Road) Interchange in Newtown and Radnor townships for milling;
  • Sunday, October 23, through Thursday, October 27, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Bryn Mawr Avenue between Route 3 (West Chester Pike) and the Bryn Mawr Avenue bridge over Darby Creek in Newtown and Radnor townships for paving;
  • Sunday, October 23, through Thursday, October 27, from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Goshen Road between Route 252 (Newtown Street Road) and Darby Paoli Road in Newtown and Radnor townships paving;
  • Sunday, October 23, through Thursday, October 27, from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Darby Paoli Road between Bryn Mawr Avenue and Brooke Road in Radnor Township for paving;
  • Sunday, October 23, through Friday, October 28, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Sellers Avenue between Fairmont Road and Ridley Avenue in Ridley Park Borough and Ridley Township for milling and paving;
  • Monday, October 24, though Friday, October 28, from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Darlington Road/New Darlington Road/Valley Road between U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) and Route 352 (Middletown Road) in Chester Heights Borough and Middletown and Edgmont townships for milling and paving;
  • Monday, October 24, through Friday, October 28, from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Chestnut Street/Waterville Road between Route 320 (Providence Avenue) and Brookhaven Road in City of Chester and Nether Providence Township for milling and paving;
  • Tuesday, October 25, through Friday, October 28, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Sharon Avenue/Clifton Avenue between Hook Road and Springfield Road in Aldan, Collingdale, Sharon Hill, and Darby boroughs for milling and paving;
  • Wednesday, October 26, through Friday, October 28, from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Bethel Road/Concord Road between the U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) Interchange and the westbound U.S. 322 on ramp to Concord Road in City of Chester and Chester and Upper Chichester townships for milling and paving; and
  • Thursday, October 27, and Friday, October 28, from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Mill Road between Route 491 (Naamans Creek Road) and Bethel Road in Upper Chichester Township for milling and paving.

Montgomery County

  • Friday, October 28, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a lane closure is scheduled on Lumber Street/Hoppenville Road between Route 29 (Gravel Pike) and Geryville Pike in Green Lane Borough and Marlborough Township for milling.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns may occur. Local access All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under these resurfacing projects, PennDOT is milling the existing roadway surfaces and repaving the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.

PennDOT to Host Virtual Public Meeting for Jacksonville Road Intersection Improvement Project in Northampton Township

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) invites the public to attend a virtual meeting on Thursday, October 27, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, for the proposed project to improve travel and safety at the intersections of Jacksonville Road and Almshouse Road and Old Jacksonville Road and Almshouse Road in Northampton Township, Bucks County.

The proposed improvements include a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of Jacksonville Road and Almshouse Road, a dedicated left turn lane on the western approach of Almshouse Road at Old Jacksonville Road, as well as associated roadside drainage enhancements.

Construction bids on this project are expected to open in summer 2024.

As part of PennDOT's public outreach program, the department encourages the public to attend the virtual public meeting on Thursday, October 27, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The virtual meeting link will be available on the project webpage prior to the scheduled start time.

The department will provide a presentation on the project at the start of the virtual public meeting, and then design team members will be available to answer questions and obtain feedback from those in attendance.

Please note that internet access, a computer or mobile device, and a valid email address are required. Any person with special needs or requiring special aid is requested to contact PennDOT Consultant Project Manager Kevin Poad at 610-205-6873.

Members of the public who are unable to attend the virtual meeting will be able to view a copy of the presentation materials and provide feedback via the online comment form on the project webpage following the presentation. Comments will be accepted through Friday, November 11.

Overhead Traffic Signal Upgrades Next Week on New Falls Road in Middletown, Bristol Townships

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that overhead signal improvements will take place next week on New Falls Road under a project to improve pedestrian safety on a nearly one-mile-long section of the highway in Middletown and Bristol townships, Bucks County.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

Monday, October 24, through Friday, October 28, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane closures are scheduled on New Falls Road between Durham Road and Bristol Oxford Valley Road.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will construct sidewalks alongside a section of New Falls Road. In addition, the safety improvement plan includes the installation of crosswalk pavement markings to delineate pedestrian routes along the corridor; installation of pedestrian signal equipment in conjunction with the addition of ADA curb ramps to further improve pedestrian safety; and the addition of protected left-turn traffic signals to improve motorist safety. 

Marino Corporation of Skippack, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the $1.4 million project, which is financed with 100% federal funds. Work on the project is expected to finish in spring 2024.

Viaduct Rehabilitation Scheduled at Night Next Week on U.S. 1 North (Roosevelt Expressway) in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that viaduct construction will continue next week on northbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) under a project to rehabilitate the Wayne Junction Viaduct over the SEPTA tracks and the Nicetown neighborhood in Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

In addition, periodic weeknight lane closures may be in place on southbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) between 17th Street and Fox Street from 6:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for work on the viaduct.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Stage 5 construction is currently underway on the northbound inner lane of the mile-long Wayne Avenue structure. 

South State, Inc. of Bridgeton, N.J. is the general contractor on the $92.4 million bridge improvement project, which is financed with 80% federal and 20% state funds. More project information is available at www.us1wav.com.

Bridge Construction Planned at Night Next Week on U.S. 1, Rockhill Drive in Bensalem Township

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that bridge construction will continue next week on U.S. 1 and Rockhill Drive under a $95 million project to reconstruct, widen and improve a 1.3-mile section of U.S. 1 in Bensalem Township, Bucks County. 

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

Motorists are reminded that the ramp to southbound U.S. 1 from Rockhill Drive remains closed and detoured during construction at the Neshaminy Interchange.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through or near the work areas. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

PennDOT is reconstructing and widening almost three miles of U.S. 1, improving the interchanges, and constructing several new bridges — including new structures over the Neshaminy Creek and over rail lines near the Penndel exit— under two contracts (RC1, RC2) to rebuild, widen and improve U.S. 1 in Bucks County.

JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA is the general contractor on the $111.5 million U.S. 1 Section RC2 project that is scheduled to be completed in mid-2026. Allan Myers, Inc. of Worcester, PA is the general contractor on the $95 million U.S. 1 Section RC1 project that is expected to be completed this year.

Pavement Preservation Next Week on U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) in Delaware County

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that pavement repair and concrete patching operations will take place next week on U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) under a project to repair and resurface approximately six miles of the highway in Chadds Ford and Concord townships, Delaware County, and Pennsbury Township, Chester County.
 
Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur due to these operations. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will mill, overlay, and rehabilitate the existing pavement; perform concrete patching and concrete base repair as needed; construct new concrete curbed median; install new pavement markings, rumble strips, delineators, and signs; and upgrade guiderail and curb ramps.

Allan Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the $14.8 million project, which is financed with 80% federal and 20% state funds.

Resurfacing Operations Next Week on Southbound Broad Street (Route 611) near Vine Street in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that milling, paving and line striping operations will occur next week on southbound Broad Street (Route 611) under a project to replace the five-span bridge that carries four lanes of Broad Street (Route 611) over loading docks and former railroad lines in the Callowhill neighborhood of Philadelphia.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. The schedule is weather dependent.

Under this project, the bridge superstructure and three steel piers will be replaced and the remaining two stone piers and abutments to support the new bridge superstructure will be rehabilitated. 

Loftus Construction, Inc., is the general contractor on this bridge improvement project, which is financed with 100% federal funds. Construction on the project is expected to be completed this fall.
