Interchange
3/18/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA
Motorists traveling in the vicinity of the Interstate 95/Girard Avenue
Interchange in Philadelphia's Fishtown and Port Richmond neighborhoods will
encounter lane restrictions next week on several streets in the
construction
zone, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced
today.
The work is associated with improvements underway to rebuild the Girard
Avenue
Interchange and reconstruct and widen two miles of I-95 north between the
Girard Avenue and Allegheny Avenue interchanges.
The work schedule is:
• The northbound detour road for the closed on-ramp to northbound I-95 at
Girard Avenue will be closed between Ann Street and Allegheny Avenue on
Monday,
March 21, and Tuesday, March 22, from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM for installation
of
protective fencing. Detoured drivers headed for the on-ramp to I-95 north
at
Castor Avenue will be detoured north on Richmond Street to right on Castor
Avenue to the on-ramp;
• Southbound Delaware Avenue will be reduced to a single lane between
Aramingo
Avenue and Berks Street on Tuesday, March 22, to Friday, March 25, from
7:00 AM
to 3:00 PM for installation of a gas main;
• Motorists on Girard Avenue will encounter periodic stoppages at the I-95
overpass on Tuesday, March 22, through Thursday, March 24, from 9:00 PM to
5:00
AM the following morning for demolition of the overhead northbound viaduct;
and
• Motorists on Cumberland Street will encounter periodic stoppages between
Richmond Street and Salmon Street on Tuesday, March 22, through Friday,
March
25, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for demolition of the
overhead I-95 northbound viaduct.
Motorists also are reminded of several other closed or restricted surface
roads
in the vicinity of the interchange for demolition and/or construction,
including:
• Access to the northbound Aramingo Avenue spur from northbound Delaware
Avenue
at the Girard Avenue Interchange is closed until August;
• Southbound Richmond Street is closed between Delaware Avenue and Girard
Avenue until August; and
• The on-ramp from Girard Avenue to northbound I-95 is closed for
reconstruction until mid-2017.
Drivers are advised to avoid the construction zone at the Girard Avenue
Interchange or to allow extra time for travel through the work area.
All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
