Night Construction Scheduled on U.S. 422 and Route 23 in Valley Forge Area
5/19/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA
Nighttime travel restrictions are scheduled next week on U.S. 422 and Route
23
(Valley Forge Road) in the Valley Forge area of Montgomery County, the
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said today.
This work is associated with the $97.4 million project that began in
February
2016 to build new, wider bridges to improve travel and carry U.S. 422
motorists
over the Schuylkill River, Norfolk Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road
and
Schuylkill River Trail in West Norriton, Upper Merion and Lower Providence
townships. The project includes improving U.S. 422 between the Route 23
(Valley
Forge Road) and Route 363 (Trooper Road) interchanges; upgrading Route 23
(Valley Forge Road) at its interchange with U.S. 422; and improving ramps
at
the Route 363 (Trooper Road), Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and First Avenue
interchanges. The project is scheduled to finish in May 2020.
U.S. 422 will be reduced from two lanes to one in both directions between
First
Avenue and Route 363 (Trooper Road) on Sunday, May 22, through Thursday,
May
26, for shoulder reconstruction and paving, and drainage installation. The
lane
closure on U.S. 422 east will be in place each night from 7:00 PM to 5:00
AM
the following morning. The westbound lane closure will occur from 9:00 PM
to
6:00 AM the following morning.
In addition, there will be a 15-minute traffic stoppage on westbound and
eastbound U.S. 422 between the Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and Route 363
(Trooper Road) interchanges on Thursday (May 26) at approximately 12:01 AM
to
install an overhead utility line across the highway. There is a possibility
a
second traffic stoppage may be needed if the operation cannot be completed
with
one stoppage.
On Route 23 (Valley Forge Road), lane closures will be in place between
Moore
Road and North Gulph Road in Upper Merion Township on Sunday, May 22,
through
Thursday, May 26, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for paving
and
median removal. Lane restrictions also may occur on ramps at the Route 23
(Valley Forge Road)/U.S. 422 Interchange.
The contractor's work schedule is dependent on the weather.
J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
$97,380,711 contract. The project is financed with 80 percent federal and
20
percent state funds. Construction is scheduled to finish in May 2020.
