State Transportation Innovation Council Hosts Eastern Regional Innovation
day
6/7/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA
The Pennsylvania State Transportation Innovation Council (STIC), a
collaboration of state, federal, local and transportation officials, today
held
their Eastern Regional Innovation Day today at the Berks Campus of Penn
State
University. The purpose of the innovation day was to promote the use of
innovative solutions in the areas of construction, design, environment,
facilities, intelligent transportation systems, maintenance, materials,
project
delivery, safety, structures and technology to PennDOT employees from its
Lehigh Valley, Harrisburg and Philadelphia regions.
The event highlighted the department's use of innovations such as
accelerated
bridge construction techniques, salt alternatives and adaptive signals.
PennDOT Secretary Leslie S. Richards said, "Pennsylvania is a national
leader
in deploying innovations which are proven to streamline environmental
review
and reduce impacts, decrease construction time, reduce delays to the
traveling
public and make work zones smarter and safer. Our innovation days help to
ensure that we maintain focus on delivering the best to Pennsylvanians."
Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission CEO and STIC member Mark Compton gave the
keynote address to the approximately 200 PennDOT employees and guests in
attendance.
"There are few opportunities outside of the STIC where industry leaders can
gather together to share perspectives and discuss new trends," Compton
said. "I
credit the STIC for challenging organizational culture and norms to
encourage
innovation and open lines of communication."
The Pennsylvania STIC is composed of a multi-stakeholder leadership team
that
works together to forge an environment of innovation, imagination and
ingenuity
to deliver a modern, high-quality transportation system to the citizens of
Pennsylvania.
In 2010, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) introduced the STIC
concept
to state transportation departments and industry partners to foster
ownership
and pride in establishing a process in which ideas, innovative techniques
and
processes are evaluated and implemented quickly and efficiently.
