PennDOT Reopens Steelville Road Bridge in Chester and Lancaster Counties

PennDOT Reopens Steelville Road Bridge in Chester and Lancaster Counties

7/1/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) reopened the
Steelville
Road bridge over the east branch of the Octoraro Creek in West Fallowfield
Township, Chester County, and Sadsbury Township, Lancaster County, on
Wednesday, June 29, following repairs to improve the bridge's structural
condition.

PennDOT's improvement project consisted of removing the bridge's asphalt
riding
surface; repairing the concrete subbase; waterproofing the deck; and
placing a
new asphalt surface on the structure. These improvements will extend the
life
of the bridge and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.

Built in 1941, the two-span, concrete T-beam bridge is 27 feet wide, 87
feet
long, and carries an average of 450 vehicles a day. With the completion of
this
project, the Steelville Road bridge is no longer classified as structurally

deficient.

Eastern Highway Specialists, Inc. of Wilmington, Del. was the general
contractor on this bridge improvement project, which began on May 16, 2016.
The
work was performed as part of a $1.4 million contract to repair bridge
decks
and seal joints to preserve and maintain structures in the five-county
Philadelphia region.
