Public Safety • A forecast of 93 degrees may seem cool compared to Monday's triple digit heat and humidity, but it is still dangerous. • You can quickly become dehydrated during times of extreme heat, so please… - Drink more water than usual. - Don't wait until you are thirsty to drink more fluids. - Drink two to four cups of water every hour while working or exercising outside. - Avoid alcohol or liquids containing high amounts of sugar. • There are first responder rest and rehab locations and public cooling centers located in Center City for those looking for relief from the heat: http://goo.gl/EcrLVr• If you are at FDR Park and need medical attention, there are 2 EMS tents located on the North and South end of the park. There are also two misting tents and bottled water available in the park. • Call 9-1-1 with emergencies. Traffic • SEPTA added service on the Broad St Line subway to assist with increased ridership in Center City and South Philadelphia. - SEPTA can provide real time updates at SEPTA Customer Service at 215-580-7800 or tweet questions to @SEPTA_SOCIAL - There may be periodic service disruptions on the Broad St Line due to demonstrations. SEPTA is providing updates on social media, @Twitter, and their special DNC page http://www.septa.org/events/dncphilly.html - SEPTA personnel will monitor the crowds to ensure that riders are able to board a train before service concludes at the Wells Fargo. SEPTA Ambassadors and other personnel will also be on-hand at stations to assist customers. • Public assembly and marches primarily occur on Broad St south of City Hall to the Stadium Complex and Market Street between 5th and 15th Streets. Spontaneous marches can happen anywhere. • PennDOT lane restrictions remain in effect during the DNC for portions of I-95 and I-676. This is so Pennsylvania State Police can enforce the five-ton truck ban safely. - For more information on restrictions and Interstate Highway travel conditions, visit PennDot's special DNC website www.511pa.com/dnc • Ban on median parking in effect for parking on S. Broad St. between Washington and Packer Avenues. Remains in effect through July 29th – call 215-686-SNOW if your car is towed. • Pattison Avenue closed from 20th to 7th Sts and Broad St from Packer to the Terminal.
Events • Day of Play Extravaganza, a free, active-play event for kids. The only kids-focused event during the DNC, the Day of Play will provide play- based activities, nutrition information and overall wellness programming while connecting kids to the Convention. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Dilworth Park, next to City Hall. • Make Art Philly Day: Make Art Philly is a day of art-making and crafting all around the theme of voting from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in City Hall's historic courtyard. • Center City Sips: Every Wednesday during summer, Center City Sips features drink specials and timely parties at local watering holes. This week, Sips promises to be the biggest this year celebrating the convention and #DNCDeals — plus, there'll be special extended hours in Dilworth Park. • Shakespeare in Clark Park and Parks on Tap: West Philly's beloved bucolic nexus enjoys a twofer today as Parks on Tap, the family-friendly beer garden that benefits Philly parks, sets up shop at the park along Chester and Baltimore avenues the same day Shakespeare in Clark Park returns! • Passyunk Passeggiata Street Festival: East Passyunk Avenue stays true to its image as one of Philadelphia's most enjoyable corridors to shop, stroll, and eat with this six-hour street festival featuring a fresh market, music, food and drink specials, the monthly LGBT QOTA happy hour, and the DNC Heritage Festival. • Pennypack Music Festival: Live music on an outside stage in Northeast Philadelphia, 7 p.m. Cresco and Welsh Aves. • Visit the City's special DNC website, www.phila.gov/dnc, to find DNC related things to see and do, and find #DNCDeals. |
