PennDOT to Repair and Resurface 20 Miles of State Highway in Philadelphia

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced
that
construction is scheduled to begin on a $7.2 million project to repair and
resurface over 20 miles of state highway and crack seal nearly 30 miles of
state highway in Philadelphia.
Crews will begin construction next week to repair and resurface the
following
state highways. The weather-dependent work schedule is:
• On Monday, August 15, through Friday, August 19, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM,
U.S. 13 (Hunting Park Avenue) will be restricted between Ridge Avenue and
U.S.
1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) for milling;
• On Monday, August 15, through Friday, August 19, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM,
Whitaker Avenue will be restricted between Erie Avenue and U.S. 1
(Roosevelt
Boulevard) for crack sealing;
• On Monday, August 15, and Tuesday, August 16, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM,
U.S.
13 (Hunting Park Avenue) between Ridge Avenue and U.S. 1 (Roosevelt
Boulevard)
for base repair;
• On Monday, August 15, through Wednesday, August 17, from 7:00 AM to 4:00
PM
and from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, 33rd Street will be restricted between Girard
Avenue and Ridge Avenue for milling;
• On Monday, August 15, through Wednesday, August 17, from 7:00 PM to 5:00
AM,
33rd Street will be restricted between Girard Avenue and Ridge Avenue for
the
adjustment of manholes, and drainage inlets;
• On Tuesday, August 16, through Thursday, August 18, from 7:00 PM to 5:00
AM,
Route 611 (Broad Street) will be restricted between Spring Garden Street
and
Indiana Avenue for base repair;
• On Wednesday, August 17, through Friday, August 19, from 7:00 PM to 5:00
AM,
Levick Street will be restricted between Frankford Avenue and U.S 1
(Roosevelt
Boulevard) for base repair:
• On Thursday, August 18, and Friday, August 19, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM,
Route
611 (Broad Street) will be restricted between Spring Garden Street and
Indiana
Avenue for milling; and
• On Thursday, August 18, and Friday, August 19, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM,
Passyunk Avenue will be restricted between the Schuylkill River Bridge and
Broad Street (Route 611) for crack sealing.
The list below are all state highways scheduled for resurfacing under this
contract:
• U.S. 13 (West Girard Avenue/North 33rd Street) between U.S. 30 (Girard
Avenue) and Ridge Avenue; and
• U.S. 13 (Hunting Park Avenue) between Ridge Avenue and U.S. 1 (Roosevelt
Boulevard);
• U.S. 13 (Robbins Lane/Levick Street/Frankford Avenue) between U.S. 1
(Roosevelt Boulevard) and Rhawn Street;
• Route 611 (Broad Street) will be restricted between Spring Garden Street
and
Indiana Avenue;
• Delaware Avenue between East Allegheny Avenue and Caster Avenue;
• Civic Center Boulevard between University Avenue and Convention Avenue;
• 34th Street/Lancaster Avenue between Market Street and North 44th
Street/Belmont Avenue; and
• Lancaster Avenue between Girard Avenue and Belmont Avenue/North 44th
Street.
Under this improvement project, PennDOT will mill off the existing roadway
surface and repave the eight state highways with asphalt pavement. The new
pavement will seal the roadways amd provide motorists with a smoother
riding
surface.
In addition, crack sealing will be performed on 10 state highways and four
ramps to prevent water from penetrating under the roadway and damaging the
pavement. By sealing cracks in the pavement, PennDOT will extend the
pavement
life of the following state highways:
Bridge Street/Bustleton Avenue; Whitaker Avenue; Rising Sun Avenue; Route 3
(Chestnut Street); Route 3 (Walnut Street); Market Street; Island Avenue
ramp
to Interstate 95 south; Bartram Avenue ramp to I-95 north; Race Street ramp
to
I-95 north; I-95 south ramp to Broad Street (Route 611); U.S. 13 (Baltimore
Pike); Delaware Avenue; Castor Avenue; and Passyunk Avenue.
James J. Anderson Construction Company, Inc., of Philadelphia, is the
general
contractor on the $7,279,354 contract, which is financed with 100 percent
state
funds. All work on the project is expected to be completed by late October.
