I-95 Travel Restrictions Next Week in Philadelphia

Travel restrictions are scheduled at next week on Interstate 95 at the
Betsy
Ross Bridge/Aramingo Avenue Interchange and Cottman Avenue (Route 73)
Interchange, where crews will perform work in preparation for shifting
northbound I-95 traffic onto the reconstructed northbound lanes as early as

next weekend, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) said
today.

These operations are associated with contracts underway to improve the ramp

system
at the Betsy Ross Bridge/Aramingo Avenue Interchange and to rebuild and
improve
the Cottman Avenue Interchange and reconstruct and widen more than one mile
of
I-95 adjoining the interchange.

The upcoming work schedule is:

•On Sunday, October 9, through Saturday, October 15, from 8:00 PM to 5:00
AM
the following morning, I-95 north and south will be reduced from three
lanes to
two from 8:00 PM to midnight, then from two lanes to one from 12:01 AM to
5:00
AM the following morning between the Bridge Street and Academy Road
interchanges. Crews will perform several construction activities, including
the
installation and repositioning of construction barriers and line painting,
related to moving three lanes of northbound traffic onto the new northbound

pavement between the Bridge Street and Cottman Avenue (Route 73);

•On Sunday, October 9, through Saturday, October 15, from 8:00 PM to 5:00
AM
the following morning, the I-95 north exit ramp to Cottman Avenue (Route
73)
will be closed periodically for construction related to the upcoming shift
of
northbound traffic on the new northbound pavement. Motorists will be
detoured
north on I-95 to the exit at the Academy Road Interchange, then right on
Linden
Avenue, and right on State Road to Cottman Avenue (Route 73);

•On Sunday, October 9, through Thursday, October 13, the Princeton Avenue
on-ramp to I-95 north will be closed periodically from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM
the
following morning for drainage work. Motorists will be detoured north on
State
Road, then left on Linden Avenue, then right on the ramp to I-95 north at
the
Academy Road Interchange;

•Monday, October 10, through Sunday, October 16, I-95 north will be reduced

from three lanes to two between Wanamaker and Bartram Avenue, in the
vicinity
of Philadelphia International Airport, from 12:01 AM to 5:00 AM for
installation of an overhead message sign;

•On Monday, October 10, through Sunday, October 16, I-95 south will be
reduced
from three through lanes to two between the Betsy Ross Bridge and Allegheny

Avenue /Castor Avenue interchanges from 12:01 AM to 5:00 AM for
installation of
an overhead message sign;

•On Thursday, October 13, and Friday, October 14, motorists will encounter
intermittent stoppages of up to 15 minutes on the I-95 north off-ramp to
Aramingo Avenue from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for the
demolition of an overhead ramp; and

•From 8:00 PM Friday, October 14, to 5:00 AM Monday, October 17, the
Princeton
Avenue on-ramp to I-95 north will be closed to complete the installation of
a
new sewer line that runs under Princeton Avenue; to remove the temporary
sewer
bypass line that was installed during construction; and to reconstruct
Princeton Avenue east of State Road at the base of the entrance ramp.
Motorists
may access I-95 north by going north on State Road, right on Bleigh Avenue,

then right on Milnor Street to the on-ramp, or follow the detour north on
State
Road, left on Linden Avenue, then right on the ramp to I-95 north at the
Academy Road Interchange. This weekend-long operation was scheduled to
occur
this weekend, but was postponed due to scheduling conflicts.

In addition, I-95 viaduct construction will close two surface streets in
the
vicinity of the Girard Avenue Interchange during the day next week.

Girard Avenue at the I-95 overpass will close on Thursday, October 13, and
Friday, October 14, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and the northbound detour road

(Allen Street) between Richmond Street and Allegheny Avenue will close
Wednesday, October 12, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Traffic normally using the
detour road to access the on-ramp to I-95 north at Castor Avenue will be
detoured north on Richmond Street and right on Castor Avenue to the
on-ramp.

Motorists in Northeast Philadelphia along the I-95 corridor will encounter
periodic lane closures on local streets on Monday, October 10, through
Saturday, October 15, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM for the placement of
electronic
message signs as part of the I-95/Cottman Avenue (Route 73) Interchange
improvement project. The streets include New State Road, Torresdale Avenue,

State Road, Linden Avenue, Bridge Street and Aramingo Avenue.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time for travel through the work zones.
All
scheduled activities are weather dependent.
