5th Street Scheduled to Close Next Week in Philadelphia for Intersection
Safety Improvements
11/3/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA
5th Street is scheduled to close between Tabor Road and Chew Avenue in
Philadelphia, on Monday, November 7, through Friday, November 11, from 9:00
AM
to 3:00 PM, for intersection safety improvements, the Pennsylvania
Department
of Transportation (PennDOT) said today.
During construction, northbound 5th Street motorists will be detoured over
Tabor Road, Lawrence Street and Chew Avenue. Southbound 5th Street
motorists
will be detoured over Chew Avenue, Fairhill Street and Tabor Road.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through this work
area.
The construction schedule is contingent on the weather.
The work is part of a $4.7 million safety improvement corridor project on
1.62
miles of Olney Avenue between Broad Street (Route 611) and Rising Sun
Avenue in
Philadelphia. PennDOT's contractor is installing new traffic signals and
pedestrian countdown timers at 15 intersections and constructing 106 ADA
ramps
at 19 intersections.
The entire project is expected to be completed by November 2017.
Armour and Sons Electric, Inc. of Langhorne, Bucks County, is the general
contractor on the project, which is financed with 100 percent federal
funds.
