NWS Weather Briefing-12/14/2016 (AM)

Attached weather briefing from the US National Weather Service in Mount Holly, NJ regarding the exceptionally cold temperatures expected for Chester County Thursday, December 15th and Friday, December 16th. Additionally, Light Snow could develop late Friday night before changing to a wintry mix, and then to plain rain during the day on Saturday. Up to 2 inches of snow is possible in the northern portions of the county with lesser amounts further south before the changeover to rain.

Here are the details:

Chester County Forecasted Conditions:

•           Anticipated Timing: Thursday morning, 12/15/16 through Saturday afternoon, 12/17/2016

•           Duration: 3 days

•           Wind speeds: Strong NW winds 15-25 MPH with frequent gusts of 30-40 MPH will develop early Thursday morning through Thursday night. Locally higher gusts are possible.

•           Extremely cold temperatures with wind chills in the single digits.

•           Precipitation: Light Snow could develop late Friday night before changing to a wintry mix, and then to plain rain during the day on Saturday. Up to 2 inches of snow is possible in the northern                   portions of the county with lesser amounts further south before the changeover to rain.

•           Active watches & warnings: None at this time

 

Impacts:

  • ·         Bitter cold is expected Thursday night and Friday morning. Exposed skin will be susceptible to frostbite.
  • ·         Pets should not be left outside.
  • ·         Pipes are also susceptible to freezing due to the prolonged period with temperatures below freezing.
  • ·         Hazardous travel conditions are possible with localized snow squalls on Friday evening into Saturday morning.
