Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 2pm today. Use caution while driving.
...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 2 PM EST THIS AFTERNOON... The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for snow, which is in effect until 2 PM EST this afternoon. * LOCATIONS...Philadelphia and its suburbs to the west in southeastern Pennsylvania, as well the eastern suburbs in New Jersey. * HAZARD TYPE...Snow. * SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...1 to 2 inches, higher amounts near 3 inches closer to the I-195 corridor in central New Jersey and at higher elevations in Chester County. * TIMING...Rain gradually overspreads the area from northwest to southeast early this morning between 6 and 8 AM. A quick changeover to snow is expected within an hour or two after the rain moves in. The snow may be moderate to heavy at times, with snowfall rates of 1 inch per hour possible during the mid morning, which may coincide with a portion of the morning commute. Heavier snow may continue through about midday near the New Jersey coast. Snow will taper off from west to east during the early afternoon. However, scattered snow showers and localized snow squalls are expected this afternoon and evening. * IMPACTS...Paved surfaces should be mainly wet during this event. However, untreated roads and walkways could become snow covered and slippery at higher elevations to the west of Philadelphia as well as locations in central New Jersey once the heavier snow bands arrive. The snow will result in reduced visibility and impact the morning commute. * WINDS...Northwest 10 to 15 MPH with gusts to 20 MPH. * TEMPERATURES...Lower and mid 40s early this morning, falling into the mid 30s as the precipitation arrives after sunrise this morning. * VISIBILITY...Reduced to one-half mile or less at times. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... This Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that a period of snow will cause hazardous travel. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibility. Use extra caution while driving. Report snow accumulations to the National Weather Service by calling our trained spotter line...posting to the NWS Mount Holly Facebook page or by using Twitter.
