PennDOT to Begin Bridge Rehabilitation of Terwood Road Bridge over Pennypack Creek in Upper Moreland Township

PennDOT to Begin Bridge Rehabilitation of Terwood Road Bridge over
Pennypack Creek in Upper Moreland Township

6/19/2017-KING OF PRUSSIA

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today
that
construction will begin Wednesday, July 5, to rehabilitate the structurally

deficient bridge carrying Terwood Road over Pennypack Creek in Upper
Moreland
Township, Montgomery County. Construction on the bridge is expected to be
completed in mid-August.

Due to the nature of the bridge repairs, Terwood Road will be closed and
detoured during construction between Route 263 (York Road) and Davisville
Road.
Motorists will be directed to use Davisville Road, Byberry Road and Route
263
(York Road). Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area
because slowdowns will occur. The work schedule is weather dependent.

As part of the rehabilitation, crews will repair the existing concrete
bridge
deck using hydro demolition and apply a latex modified concrete overlay;
replace the existing bridge barriers with new vertical wall barriers; and
make
additional safety improvements, including approach guiderail. The bridge
will
no longer be structurally deficient following these repairs.

The Terwood Road bridge over Pennypack Creek was built in 1966. The
single-span
reinforced concrete slab bridge is 26 feet long, 52 feet wide and carries
an
average of 16,200 vehicles a day.

The structure is one of 10 bridges in Bucks, Chester and Montgomery
counties
that PennDOT is repairing under a $5,505,505 project financed by Act 89,
the
state's transportation plan.

Construction began last week to rehabilitate the Spring Garden Street
bridge
over Interstate 76 in West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County.

The other bridges included in this rehabilitation project include:

• Thatcher Road over Tohickon Creek in Richland Township, Bucks County;
• Thatcher Road over Dimple Creek in Haycock Township, Bucks County;
• U.S. 1 over Church Road in New Garden Township, Chester County;
• University Road over U.S. 1 in Upper Oxford Township, Chester County;
• Township Road over U.S. 1 in Lower Oxford Township, Chester County;
• Cowpath Road over Perkiomen Creek in Salford and Franconia townships,
Montgomery County;
• Gypsy Lane over I-76 in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County; and
• Farmington Avenue over Route 100 in Upper Pottsgrove, Montgomery County.
Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, N.J., is the general contractor
on
the bridge improvement project, which is financed with 100 percent state
funds.

Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in October 2019.
