U.S. 422 and Route 23 Travel Restrictions Scheduled Next Week for Bridge
Construction in Valley Forge Area

U.S. 422 and Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) motorists will encounter travel
restrictions next week in Upper Merion and West Norriton townships,
Montgomery
County, and Tredyffrin Township, Chester County, for bridge construction,
the
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule, which is weather dependent, is:

• Tuesday, June 26, through Thursday, June 29, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM,
lane
closures are scheduled on westbound U.S. 422 between the Interstate 76 and
First Avenue interchanges;
• From 7:00 PM Wednesday, June 28, to 5:00 AM Thursday, June 29, the ramp
from
westbound Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) to westbound U.S. 422 will be closed
and
detoured. During this operation, westbound 23 (Valley Forge Road) motorists

wanting to access westbound U.S. 422 will be directed by flaggers to make a

left on the ramp that eastbound Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) motorists use
to
access westbound U.S. 422; and
• From 7:00 PM Thursday, June 29, to 5:00 AM Friday, June 30, lane closures
are
scheduled on eastbound U.S. 422 from Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) to just
east
of the First Avenue Interchange.

In addition to the travel restrictions next week, the ramp from Route 23
(Valley Forge Road) to eastbound U.S. 422 will be closed and detoured
beginning
Monday, July 10, for construction activities. The ramp closure will be in
place
through late fall. During construction, Route 23 (Valley Forge Road)
motorists
wanting to access eastbound U.S. 422 will be directed to use Gulph Road and

First Avenue to reach eastbound U.S. 422.

PennDOT advises drivers to allow additional time for travel on U.S. 422 and

Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) near the construction areas because backups
will
occur.

This work is part of the $97.4 million project to build new, wider bridges
to
improve travel and carry U.S. 422 motorists over the Schuylkill River,
Norfolk
Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and Schuylkill River Trail in West
Norriton, Upper Merion and Lower Providence townships. The project includes

improving U.S. 422 between the Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and Route 363
(Trooper Road) interchanges; upgrading Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) at its
interchange with U.S. 422; and improving ramps at the Route 363 (Trooper
Road),
Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and First Avenue interchanges. Construction
began
in February 2016 and is scheduled to finish in May 2020.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
project that is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state
funds.
