Wolf Administration Announces Major Improvement Project to Begin to Repair
and Resurface 12.5 Miles of I-76 in Montgomery County
6/15/2017-KING OF PRUSSIA
The Wolf Administration announced today that preliminary survey operations
are
scheduled to begin next week on a major improvement project to repair and
resurface 12.5 miles of Interstate 76 from U.S. 1 (City Avenue) to just
west of
the U.S. 202 Interchange in Lower Merion Township, West Conshohocken
Borough
and Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County.
"Improving the I-76 corridor is a critical part of strengthening the
state's
transportation network for residents, commuters and the economy in the
Philadelphia region," Governor Tom Wolf said. "This much-needed pavement
improvement project will greatly benefit the thousands of drivers who use
the
expressway for their daily commutes."
Under this improvement project, PennDOT will mill, overlay and rehabilitate
existing pavement; perform base repairs; install new guide rail; repair or
replace damaged traffic signs, two overhead sign structures and numerous
expansion joints on three structures; and install rumble strips,
delineators
and new mileage markers along the four-lane section of I-76.
Prior to resurfacing, PennDOT's contractor will begin preliminary
operations on
I-76 between Interstate 476 and U.S. 1 (City Avenue). The work schedule is:
• Monday, June 19, and Tuesday, June 20, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM,
intermittent
lane closures are scheduled on eastbound I-76 between Interstate 476 and
U.S. 1
(City Avenue);
• Wednesday, June 21, and Thursday, June 22, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM,
intermittent lane closures are scheduled on westbound I-76 between U.S. 1
(City
Avenue) and I-476; and
• Friday, June 23, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, intermittent lane closures are
scheduled on eastbound and westbound I-76 at the I-476 Interchange.
All scheduled activities are weather dependent. Motorists are advised to
use an
alternate route or allow extra time when traveling on I-76 in the work
areas
because backups and delays will occur.
Following preliminary operations next week, concrete patching, milling and
paving operations will get underway beginning at 9:00 PM Sunday, June 26.
I-76
motorists can expect daily overnight lane closures Sundays through
Thursdays
from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, and Fridays and Saturdays from 9:00 PM until
mid-morning the next day.
The resurfacing of mainline I-76 in Montgomery County is scheduled to be
completed in late October, while work on the entire project will finish in
summer 2018.
