I-676 West Ramp to 22nd Street Reduced to One Lane Beginning Friday Morning
in Philadelphia
7/20/2017-KING OF PRUSSIA
The westbound Interstate 676 ramp to 22nd Street in Center City
Philadelphia
will be reduced from two-lanes-to-one for approximately 14 months beginning
at
5:00 AM Friday, July 21, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation
(PennDOT) announced today.
Crews will restrict traffic to a single lane on the ramp as part of a
traffic
shift on the 22nd Street bridge over I-676 that will take place between
10:00
PM tonight (July 20) and 5:00 AM Friday, July 21. The shift will move two
lanes
of 22nd Street traffic onto the recently-completed west side of the
replacement
22nd Street span, allowing crews to begin demolition and construction
activities of the east side of the bridge. The ramp will be restored to
two-lanes at the completion of the east side of the bridge scheduled for
fall
2018.
Motorists are advised to remain alert for traffic backups extending onto
westbound I-676 due to the lane closure on the ramp, especially during peak
travel times.
Also as part of the traffic shift, PennDOT will reopen the 22nd Street ramp
to
westbound I-676 overnight tonight (July 20) as well.
Work on the bridge and ramp are part of PennDOT's $64.8 million project to
rebuild seven deteriorated spans over I-676 between 18th Street and 22nd
Street.
PennDOT has finished construction on the new 20th Street and 19th Street
bridges as well as two new pedestrian bridges between 18th Street and 20th
Street, which includes significant improvements and expansion of the public
space at both pedestrian crossings.
Buckley & Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the
project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
