Wolf Administration Announces Work to Begin to Replace State Road Bridge
over Little Elk Creek in Chester County

10/6/2017-KING OF PRUSSIA

The Wolf Administration announced today that construction is scheduled to
begin
next week to replace the structurally-deficient bridge carrying State Road
over
Little Elk Creek in Elk Township, Chester County.

"This is a win-win situation," Governor Tom Wolf said. "We remove another
structure from the backlog of structurally-deficient bridges in the state,
while southern Chester County gains a new bridge that will serve its
residents
well into the future."

Beginning Monday, October 9, through mid-April, the State Road bridge over
Little Elk Creek will be closed and detoured between Route 472 (Lewisville
Road) and Chrome Road.

During the seven-month closure, State Road motorists will be detoured over
Chrome Road, Media Road and Route 472 (Lewisville Road). Local access will
be
maintained up to the construction zone.

Built in 1937, the current two-span, rolled steel I-beam bridge with a
timber
deck carries an average of 946 vehicles a day.

PennDOT's contractor will replace it with a single span, pre-stressed,
concrete
spread box beam bridge and perform other miscellaneous construction,
including
streambank mitigation. The new structure will be 30 feet wide and 67 feet
long,
and include two-foot shoulders.

Lobar Site Development Corporation, of Dillsburg Borough, York County, is
the
general contractor on this $1,330,201 bridge replacement project that is
financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
