PennDOT to Begin Replacement of Morwood Road Culvert in Franconia Township,
Montgomery County

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today
that
construction will begin Monday, April 2, to replace the Morwood Road
culvert
over a branch of Perkiomen Creek in Franconia Township, Montgomery County.

PennDOT's contractor will replace the steel pipe arch culvert with a dual
reinforced concrete pipe culvert; replace the concrete spandrel walls and
wingwalls with reinforced concrete; reconstruct the bridge roadway and mill
and
resurface the approach roadways; install structure mounted guiderail and
approach guiderail; and place rock around the concrete ends of the culvert.

Due to the nature of construction, Morwood Road will be closed and detoured

between Creamery Road and Camp Road during the three-month project. Morwood

Road motorists will be directed to use Allentown Road, Route 63 (Main
Street)
and Route 113 (Souderton-Harleysville Pike). Local access will be
maintained up
to the construction zone.

The current two-span structure was built in 1970. It is 11 feet long, 25
feet
wide, and carries an average of 2,613 vehicles a day.

The structure is one of nine bridges in Bucks, Chester, Delaware,
Montgomery
and Philadelphia counties that PennDOT is repairing under a $7,407,987
improvement project financed by Act 89, the state's transportation plan.

The bridges currently under construction include:

• Sugan Road over Cuttalossa Creek in Solebury Township, Bucks County;
• Old Forty Foot Road over Branch of Skippack Creek in Lower Salford and
Towamencin townships, Montgomery County; and
• Route 232 (Second Street Pike) over a branch of Mill Creek in Wrightstown

Township, Bucks County.

The other structures included in this nine-bridge rehabilitation project
include:

• Hares Hill Road over French Creek in East Pikeland Township, Chester
County;
• Baltimore Pike over Darby Creek in Clifton Heights and Lansdowne boroughs
and
Upper Darby Township, Delaware County;
• State Road/Lansdowne Avenue over Cobbs Creek in Upper Darby Township,
Delaware County, and the City of Philadelphia;
• Wissahickon Avenue over Monoshone Creek in Philadelphia; and
• Ridge Pike over Perkiomen Creek in Collegeville Borough and Lower
Providence
Township, Montgomery County.

Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in late summer 2019.

J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
bridge improvement project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds.
