PennDOT Reopens College Avenue Bridge in Haverford Township, Delaware
County
6/7/2018-KING OF PRUSSIA
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today reopened the
new
College Avenue bridge over SEPTA railroad tracks and the adjacent culvert
over
Cobbs Creek.
Additional improvements remain as crews will work through early July to
stain
the bridge parapets and complete the widening and improvement of the
College
Avenue and Haverford Road intersection, which includes the installation of
new
traffic signals as well as the addition of left turn lanes on College
Avenue at
this intersection.
PennDOT's contractor replaced the two-span concrete encased steel beam
bridge
with a one-span composite pre-stressed concrete box beam structure and
constructed a new precast reinforced concrete arch culvert.
The new structure over the SEPTA tracks is 42 feet wide and 58 feet long,
with
two 11-foot travel lanes and a 10-foot left turn lane. It also features a
five-foot wide sidewalk on the west side of the structure and a two-foot
wide
shoulder on the east side.
The new concrete arch culvert is 42 feet wide and 24 feet long. It has two
11-foot travel lanes and a 10-foot painted center gore area. It also
features a
five-foot wide sidewalk on the west side of the structure and a two-foot
wide
shoulder on the east side.
Road-Con, Inc. of West Chester, Chester County, is the general contractor
on
the $5,240,145 project that is financed with 100 percent state funds.
