PennDOT - District 6 News: Road and Ramp Closures Scheduled Next Week for Demolition at I-95 Girard Interchange

Road and Ramp Closures Scheduled Next Week for Demolition at I-95 Girard Interchange

King of Prussia, PA – Several road and ramp closures will be in place next week at the Interstate 95/Girard Avenue Interchange in Philadelphia for demolition of a section of southbound viaduct between Palmer and Ann streets, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule is:
  • Monday, December 3, through Wednesday, December 5, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, eastbound or westbound Girard Avenue will be closed periodically between Richmond Street and the Aramingo Avenue overpass. Local detour routes will be posted;
  • Monday, December 3, through Wednesday, December 5, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the section of the southbound I-95 ramp to Girard Avenue will be closed. Motorists will be directed to use the spur ramp to eastbound Aramingo Avenue, south on Delaware Avenue and west on Frankford Avenue to access Girard Avenue; 
  • Wednesday, December 5, through Friday, December 7, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Aramingo Avenue will be closed in both directions between Girard Avenue and Delaware Avenue. Local detour routes will be posted for eastbound and westbound Aramingo Avenue motorists; and 
  • Wednesday, December 5, through Friday, December 7, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, the ramp from Aramingo Avenue to southbound I-95 will be closed. Motorists will be detoured east on Aramingo Avenue, south on Delaware Avenue, west on Callowhill Street, and south on 2nd Street to access the ramp to southbound I-95.
All scheduled activities are subject to change depending on weather conditions.

This demolition is part of the $312 million project to replace the southbound I-95 viaduct between Palmer Street in Fishtown and Ann Street in Port Richmond, part of the reconstruction of 1.5 miles of southbound I-95 between the Girard Avenue and Allegheny Avenue interchanges.

James J. Anderson Construction Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the project which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
