Wolf Administration Announces Remediation Project to Begin on I-76/U.S. 202 Interchange in Montgomery County
King of Prussia, PA – Preliminary operations are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, January 30, on a project that will remediate four sinkhole locations that have occurred on Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in the U.S. 202 Interchange area in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
"Maintenance and repair operations are an integral part of PennDOT's commitment to improving travel and safety on heavily traveled highways and interchanges," said Governor Tom Wolf.
This project will address the sinkhole activity that has developed in this interchange area and provide a proactive approach to repair the pavement to help mitigate future sinkhole development.
Beginning Wednesday, January 30, and Thursday, January 31, survey operations will get underway and will not impact traffic. Physical construction, which will require lane closures on I-76 and U.S. 202 ramps during non-peak travel times, is expected to begin in late summer and finish in the spring of 2020.
J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County is the general contractor on the $4,076,772 project which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
