PennDOT to Host Open House Meeting for I-95 Improvement Projects at Bridge Street and Betsy Ross Bridge Interchanges in Philadelphia
King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will hold an open house public plans display on Tuesday, November 12, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at St. John Cantius Church gymnasium at 4415 Almond Street in Philadelphia to update citizens about upcoming projects to reconstruct and improve Interstate 95 at the Betsy Ross Bridge and Bridge Street interchanges in Philadelphia (Sections BSR and BRI).
The purpose of this meeting is to present revised design plans and obtain feedback from the public on proposed plans and design concepts for the two interchange areas. Important design changes have been made in response to public input since the last presentation in 2013.
The meeting will be conducted as an open-house plans display where citizens will have the opportunity to circulate among the subject displays to gather information and discuss the different facets of the project with PennDOT's design team.
Under this project, PennDOT will reconstruct I-95 between Levick Street, at the northern end of the current Bridge Street Interchange, and Wheatsheaf Lane, at the southern end of the existing Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange. Improvements also will be made to ramps and connecting local streets within the area of the interchanges.
Construction bids were opened in mid-October for rebuilding I-95 from Levick Street to Carver Street (Section BS1), with construction expected to get underway late this year. Construction bids for a second contract (Section BR2), which will complete the rebuilding of the ramps at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange, are scheduled to be opened in December, with construction starting in spring 2020. A contract to rebuild several of the existing ramps and construct two new ramps between the Betsy Ross Bridge and Aramingo Avenue (Section BR0) was completed in late 2017. Work is currently underway through 2020 to widen and improve Aramingo Avenue and other surface streets in the vicinity of the interchanges (Section BS4).
The BSR/BRI projects are anticipated to be built using 100 percent federal funds.
