U.S. 1 Periodic Nighttime Lane Closures, Traffic Stoppages Next Week for Construction in Bucks County

During the periodic 15-minute stoppages on U.S.1, Bristol Road also will be closed temporarily between Neshaminy Boulevard and Old Lincoln Highway. The stoppages and closures are required as crews conduct controlled blasting to remove rock from the embankments along U.S. 1 where widening is taking place.

In addition, periodic lane restrictions also may be in place on Monday, November 29, through Friday, December 3, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning for construction on northbound and southbound U.S. 1 between Old Lincoln Highway and the Pennsylvania Turnpike interchange and on eastbound and/or westbound Street Road (Route 132) between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way in Bensalem Township.

PennDOT - District 6 News: PennDOT Reopens Rapps Dam Road Covered Bridge in East Pikeland Township

An update has been published to District 6 News on the PennDOT website. Please see below for details.

PennDOT - District 6 News

PennDOT Reopens Rapps Dam Road Covered Bridge in East Pikeland Township

King of Prussia, PA The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has reopened the historic Rapps Dam Road Covered Bridge over French Creek in East Pikeland Township, Chester County, following the completion of structural repairs due to damage caused by an oversized vehicle.

PennDOT's contractor replaced the knee braces, bridging joists, and one floorboard and timber header, which were damaged by the vehicle crash this past summer. Plans are also in place to install bridge headache bars to curb future damage caused by oversized vehicles.

The Rapps Dam Road Covered Bridge over French Creek was originally built in 1866 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The bridge is 106 feet long and 14 feet wide. The bridge carried an average of 3,600 vehicles a day.

Before this repair, PennDOT had rehabilitated the historic covered bridge three times since 2011. In 2018, repairs also occurred due to a vehicular crash.

In fall 2015, PennDOT rehabilitated the historic covered bridge after it was severely damaged by a tractor trailer in April 2014. The contractor restored the Burr Arch truss, installed new ceiling joists and braces, and replaced wooden cross members on the roof.

In fall 2011, PennDOT completed a rehabilitation project on the bridge by removing and replacing its deteriorated cedar shake roof, redwood siding and timber decking. Crews also replaced four steel beams supporting the bridge deck and repaired the structure's stone abutments and wing walls.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

To enhance pedestrian and bicyclist mobility, the contractor will construct a shared-use bicycle and pedestrian path along the east side of Henry Avenue between Barnes Street and Walnut Lane. Other safety enhancements include installing bump-outs at 15 intersections and ADA curb ramps at various intersections along the corridor.

The project will feature the addition of speed calming measures on this section of Henry Avenue that sees an average daily traffic volume of 29,000 vehicles daily. The features include 35 mph pavement markings adjacent to speed limit signs; oversized speed limit signs with orange diamonds; electronic speed feedback signs north of Leverington Avenue and north of Cinnaminson Street; and speed limit signs and hidden driveway signs south of Cinnaminson Street.

The project will also address storm water management through storm drainage, water facility relocation, and green stormwater infrastructure.

During construction, PennDOT will maintain traffic on Henry Avenue by utilizing long-term lane shifts and short-term lane closures.

Road-Con, Inc. of West Chester, Chester County is the general contractor on the $12.8 million project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. The entire project is scheduled to finish in late 2023. More information is available at www.Penndot.gov/HenryAvePhilly.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

PennDOT - District 6 News: U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) Lane Closures Next Week for Concrete Patching in Chadds Ford Township

An update has been published to District 6 News on the PennDOT website. Please see below for details.

PennDOT - District 6 News

U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) Lane Closures Next Week for Concrete Patching in Chadds Ford Township

King of Prussia, PA – Northbound and southbound U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) motorists will encounter a 24/7 left lane closure between U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike) and Hoffman Mill Road on Sunday, November 14, through Saturday, November 20, for concrete patching under a project to repair and resurface approximately six miles of U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) in Chadds Ford and Concord townships, Delaware County and Pennsbury Township, Chester County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur due to these operations. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will mill, overlay and rehabilitate the existing pavement; perform concrete patching and concrete base repair as needed; construct new concrete curbed median; install new pavement markings, rumble strips, delineators and signs; and upgrade guiderail and curb ramps.

Allan Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the $13.7 million project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

PennDOT - District 6 News: PennDOT Completes Barbadoes Street Extension Project, New Connector Roadway Opens Friday in Norristown

An update has been published to District 6 News on the PennDOT website. Please see below for details.

PennDOT - District 6 News

PennDOT Completes Barbadoes Street Extension Project, New Connector Roadway Opens Friday in Norristown

King of Prussia, PA – The Barbadoes Street Extension will open to traffic on Friday morning, November 12, completing the block-long connector roadway project between Lafayette Street and Washington Street that is designed to alleviate traffic at the busy intersection of Markley Street (U.S. 202 South) and Main Street by providing access to business properties located along Water Street in Norristown, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The $1.5 million Extension (U.S. 202/Section 530), which also includes a five-foot sidewalk on the east side of the new roadway, was built in conjunction with the improvements currently under construction on Markley Street (U.S. 202 South) between Main Street and Elm Street. The project also included improvements to the stormwater drainage on Washington Street and construction of a rain garden adjacent to the nearby Schuylkill River Trail. A short section of the Trail has been rerouted to accommodate the Extension.

Completion of the new roadway will allow left turns to be restricted from westbound Main Street onto Water Street, eliminating backups that impact the adjacent Main Street/Markley Street (U.S. 202 South) intersection caused by left-turning vehicles.

Construction of the Extension, which was built using 100 percent federal funds, began in July 2021. Alan Myers, LP, of Worcester, Montgomery County, was the general contractor.

Reconstruction activities are underway on the southbound side of Markley Street (U.S. 202 South) between Main Street and Elm Street under the $24 million Section 510 project, including construction of the southbound bridge over Stony Creek.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.
