U.S. 1 North and South Travel Restrictions Scheduled for Safety Improvement Project in Bucks County

U.S. 1 North and South Travel Restrictions Scheduled for Safety Improvement
Project in Bucks County

6/1/2018-KING OF PRUSSIA

Northbound U.S. 1 motorists will encounter a revised traffic pattern at the

Route 32 (Morrisville) Interchange in Bucks County beginning Monday, June
4,
through early July, for construction activities related to a project to
enhance
travel and safety on northbound U.S. 1 through the interchange with U.S. 13

(Bristol Pike) and Route 32 in Falls, Middletown and Lower Makefield
townships,
the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Under this new traffic pattern, two through lanes on northbound U.S. 1 will
be
maintained.

On Monday, June 4, from 7:00 PM through 5:00 AM the next morning,
southbound
U.S. 1 motorists will encounter periodic lane restrictions between the
Route 32
(Morrisville) and U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) interchanges, as crews set
temporary
barrier.

In addition, overnight lane closures are scheduled on northbound and
southbound
U.S. 1 between the Oxford Valley Road and Morrisville/Pennsylvania Avenue
interchanges on Monday, June 4, through Friday, June 8, from 8:00 PM to
5:00
AM, for overhead sign replacement.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work
zones
because slowdowns will occur during construction. All scheduled activities
are
weather dependent.

When completed, this project will improve U.S. 1 by providing northbound
motorists two through lanes while maintaining an exit to Route 32, thereby
removing the "exit only" lane that currently exists for northbound drivers
at
this interchange. In addition, a concrete barrier will be placed between
U.S. 1
north and the on-ramp from U.S. 13 to eliminate the substandard weave
condition
that currently exists when U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) drivers enter U.S. 1 and
weave through traffic to reach the Route 32 exit ramp.

The scope of the project also includes placement of a high-friction surface

treatment on U.S. 1 south in the area of Route 32. Construction of an
additional auxiliary lane along northbound U.S. 1 at Oxford Valley Road has

already been completed under this project.

James D. Morrissey, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the
$2,327,110 project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.
Construction is expected to be completed this summer.

For more information on projects occurring or being bid this year, those
made
possible by or accelerated by Act 89, or those on the department's Four and

Twelve Year Plans, visit www.projects.penndot.gov.
