Travel Restrictions Scheduled Next Week for ADA Curb Ramp Installation in Bucks County

​King of Prussia, PA – Motorists will encounter temporary lane closures at several intersections on Monday, November 5, through Friday, November 9, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, as a part of a project to install 73 ADA curb ramps at 18 intersections in Bucks County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule includes:

• Route 412 (Durham Road) and Route 611 (Easton Road) in Nockamixon Township;
• Route 412 (Durham Road) and Route 563 (Mountain View Drive) in Nockamixon Township;
• Route 413 (Newtown Bypass) and Route 532 (Durham Road) in Newtown Township;
• Route 532 (Durham Road) and Route 532 (Sycamore Street/ Washington Crossing) in Newtown Township;
• Big Oak Road and Makefield Road in Lower Makefield Township;
• Pennsylvania Avenue and Union Street in Morrisville Borough;
• Big Oak Road and Trenton Avenue in Falls Township; and
• Trenton Avenue and Plaza Boulevard in Falls Township.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns will occur. The contractor's schedule is dependent on the weather.

Additional intersections scheduled for ADA curb ramp installation include:

• Route 32 (Delaware Avenue) and Letchworth Avenue in Yardley Borough;
• Route 32 (Delaware Avenue) and College Avenue in Yardley Borough;
• Route 413 (Newtown Bypass) and Newtown Langhorne Road in Newtown Township;
• Route 513 (Bellevue Avenue) and Route 413 (Durham Road/Legrande Avenue) in Penndel Borough;
• Route 513 (Bellevue Avenue) and Lincoln Highway in Penndel Borough;
• Main Street and Reading Avenue in Yardley Borough;
• Main Street and Letchworth Avenue in Yardley Borough;
• Main Street and Afton Avenue in Yardley Borough;
• Mirror Lake Road and Yardley Langhorne Road in Lower Makefield Township; and
• Stony Hill Road and Cardinal Drive in Lower Makefield Township.

L.C. Costa Contractors, Inc. of Warminster, Bucks County, is the general contractor on the $711,453 project, which is financed with 100 percent state funds.

Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in early 2019.

Wolf Administration Breaks Ground on Edge Hill Road/Tyson Avenue Improvement Project in Abington Township, Montgomery County

Abington, PA – PennDOT Assistant District Executive for Construction George Dunheimer was joined by State Senator Art Haywood, State Representative Madeleine Dean and local officials for a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of a project to improve travel, safety and drainage on Edge Hill Road and Tyson Avenue in Abington Township, Montgomery County.

"Improvements made under this project will not only provide a safer route for motorists and pedestrians but also raise the quality of life for residents who have been dealing with drainage issues along this corridor," said Governor Tom Wolf. "This project is a prime example of PennDOT's mission to deliver a sustainable transportation system that is embraced by our communities."

Both Edge Hill Road and Tyson Avenue will be reconstructed to improve safety by incorporating curbing, parking lanes, sidewalks, new signing, and signalized intersection improvements. The project also includes upgrades to Jenkintown Road and several adjacent township roadways including Ardsley Avenue, Edgecomb Road, Custer Avenue and Bradfield Road. In addition to safety improvements, flooding concerns will be addressed through extensive drainage improvements and green stormwater practices.

During construction, Edge Hill Road will be converted to a one-way road carrying eastbound traffic only from Jenkintown Road to Bradfield Road and will remain a two-way road from Bradfield Road to Route 611 (Easton Road). Tyson Avenue will continue to carry two-way traffic through the project limits.

Construction on this project is expected to start later this month and finish in spring of 2021.

C. Abbonizio Contractors, Inc., of Sewell, N.J. is the general contractor on the $16.1 million project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. Abington Township financed the preliminary engineering and final design phases of the project, which were performed by Pennoni Associates of Philadelphia.

Route 452 (Market Street) Lane Closure Next Week for Utility Improvement in Delaware County

King of Prussia, PA – Route 452 (Market Street) will be reduced to a single lane with flagging between Ormand Street and 11th Street on Monday, November 5, through Friday, November 9, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, for underground utility work on a project to replace the structure carrying Route 452 (Market Street) over Amtrak and SEPTA railroad tracks in Marcus Hook Borough and Lower Chichester Township, Delaware County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. 

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT's contractor is replacing the 17-span reinforced concrete T-beam bridge with a new four-span, continuous prestressed box beam bridge. The new bridge will be 343 feet long, 40 feet wide and will be built on a new alignment and widened to meet current design standards. Crews will also resurface and regrade new approaches to the bridge.

Route 452 (Market Street) will continue to remain open to traffic during construction except for two 28-day closures planned during later stages of construction. The project is scheduled to finish in fall 2019.

The bridge was built in 1925 and rehabilitated in 1995. The current structure is 656 feet long, 32 feet wide and carries an average of 8,700 vehicles a day.

Road-Con, Inc., of West Chester, Chester County, is the general contractor on the $19,947,624 project that is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.

U.S. 422 Lane Closures Planned for Construction in Pottstown Area

King of Prussia, PA – U.S. 422 motorists will encounter lane closures in both directions for various construction activities on a project to rebuild 1.6 miles of U.S. 422 and construct new structures over the Schuylkill River and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule is:

• Sunday, November 4, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Monday, November 5, through Friday, November 9, from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM, alternating left and right lane closures are scheduled on eastbound U.S. 422 between the Keim Street and Sanatoga interchanges for diamond grinding; and
  
• Sunday, November 4, through Friday, November 9, from 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM, alternating left and right lane closures are scheduled on westbound U.S. 422 between the Sanatoga and Route 724 interchanges for pavement sealing and line painting.
  

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling on U.S. 422 through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. These operations are weather dependent. 

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor is building, in phases, new U.S. 422 structures over the Schuylkill River; new U.S. 422 structures over Norfolk Southern railroad tracks; rebuilding U.S. 422 from the Schuylkill River bridge to the Porter Road overpass; installing new median barriers; replacing the Armand Hammer Boulevard bridge over U.S. 422; improving and realigning ramps at the U.S. 422/Armand Hammer Boulevard Interchange; reconstructing and realigning the ramp from Route 724 to U.S. 422 east; improving storm water drainage; erecting three overhead sign structures; installing conduit for future Intelligent Transportation equipment; and installing new guide rail and signs. 

J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on the $73.3 million project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. Work on the entire project is scheduled to finish later this month.

I-95 Ramp, Lane Closures Next Week for Lighting Improvements in Center City Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Interstate 95 motorists will encounter ramp closures at Market Street and Columbus Boulevard/Lombard Circle and double lane closures between the Washington Avenue/Columbus Boulevard (Exit 20) and Interstate 676/Callowhill (Exit 22) interchanges in Philadelphia next week for work on a project to install a new underpass lighting system in the covered section of I-95 near Dock Street, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. All operations will take place from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning.

The work schedule is:

• Monday, November 5, through Friday, November 9, the two right lanes will be closed on southbound I-95 between the I-676/Callowhill (Exit 22) and Washington Avenue/Columbus Boulevard (Exit 20) interchanges;
  
• Monday, November 5, through Friday, November 9, the ramp from Market Street to southbound I-95 will be closed and detoured. Motorists will be directed to travel north on 5th Street, west on Arch Street, north on 7th Street and follows signs to eastbound I-676 to reach southbound I-95;
  
• Monday, November 5, through Friday, November 9, the ramp from Columbus Boulevard/Lombard Circle to northbound I-95 will be closed and detoured. During construction, motorists who normally use the ramp will be directed to travel south on Columbus Boulevard and follow signs to northbound I-95;
  
• Tuesday, November 6, the two left lanes will be closed on northbound I-95 between the Washington Avenue/Columbus Boulevard (Exit 20) and I-676/Callowhill (Exit 22) interchanges; and
  
• Wednesday, November 7, through Friday, November 9, the two right lanes will be closed on northbound I-95 between the Washington Avenue/Columbus Boulevard (Exit 20) and I-676/Callowhill (Exit 22) interchanges.
  

Motorists are advised to use an alternate route or allow more time for travel on I-95 in the work areas because significant backups and delays will occur. The contractor's schedule is weather dependent. 

In addition to installing a new underpass lighting system, PennDOT's contractor is reconstructing five pump stations in Philadelphia and Bristol Township, Bucks County. All work on this project is scheduled to be completed in December 2019.

PKF-Mark III, Inc. of Newtown, Bucks County is the general contractor on the $29,884,795 improvement project which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.

U.S. 422 East Lane Closure Monday Night for Construction in Valley Forge Area

King of Prussia, PA – Eastbound U.S. 422 motorists will encounter a right lane closure between the Oaks and Route 363 (Trooper Road) interchanges on Monday, November 5, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for barrier realignment as part of a project to build new, wider bridges to improve travel and carry U.S. 422 motorists over the Schuylkill River, Norfolk Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and Schuylkill River Trail in West Norriton, Upper Merion and Lower Providence townships, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Drivers should allow additional time for travel in the construction zone because backups and delays will occur. The contractor's schedule is weather dependent and subject to change.

The scope of work on this project includes improving U.S. 422 between the Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and Route 363 (Trooper Road) interchanges; upgrading Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) at its interchange with U.S. 422; and improving ramps at the Route 363 (Trooper Road), Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and First Avenue interchanges. 

Construction on this improvement project began in February 2016 and is scheduled to finish in May 2020.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on the $97.4 million project that is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.

King of Prussia, PA – Interstate 95 and Interstate 295 motorists will encounter double lane closures in both directions between the Route 132 (Street Road) and Route 413 (Bristol) interchanges on Monday, November 5, through Thursday, November 8, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, for subbase and pavement marking installations on a project to repair and resurface 13 miles of I-95 and I-295 in Bensalem, Bristol, Middletown and Lower Makefield townships, Bucks County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

In addition, single lane and shoulder closures will be in place on northbound and southbound I-95 between the Academy Road and Pennsylvania Turnpike interchanges on Monday, November 5, through Friday, November 9, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM for guide rail installation.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling on I-95 and I-295 in the work areas because significant backups and delays will occur. The contractor's schedule is weather dependent.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT is milling, overlaying and rehabilitating existing pavement; performing base repairs; installing new guide rail; repairing or replacing damaged traffic signs; performing minor bridge deck repairs; and installing rumble strips and delineators along the I-95 and I-295 corridor in Bucks County. The entire project is scheduled to be completed this fall.

James J. Anderson Construction Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the $29,633,134 project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
