Bridge Construction Next Week on Southbound Broad Street (Route 611) near Vine Street in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that bridge construction will continue next week on southbound Broad Street (Route 611) under a project to replace the five-span structure that carries four lanes of Broad Street (Route 611) over loading docks and former railroad lines in the Callowhill neighborhood of Philadelphia.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

• Monday, October 10, through Friday, October 14, from 9:00 PM to 3:00 PM, southbound Broad Street (Route 611) will be reduced to a single lane between Spring Garden Street and Vine Street.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. The schedule is weather dependent.

Under this project, the bridge superstructure and three steel piers will be replaced and the remaining two stone piers and abutments to support the new bridge superstructure will be rehabilitated.

Loftus Construction, Inc., is the general contractor on this bridge improvement project, which is financed with 100% federal funds. Construction on the project is expected to be completed this fall.

ITS Repair Planned Tuesday Night on I-76 West (Schuylkill Expressway) in Lower Merion Township

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) repair is scheduled next week on westbound Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

• Tuesday, October 11, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a left lane closure is scheduled on westbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) between the City Avenue (U.S. 1 South) and Belmont Avenue interchanges.
  

Motorists are advised to use an alternate route or allow more time for travel in the work area because significant backups and slowdowns may occur. The schedule is weather dependent and subject to change.

The ITS repair is part of the completed project to install Variable Speed Limit (VSL) and Queue Detection and Warning (QDW) systems along 14 miles of I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) between King of Prussia and Philadelphia. For additional details, visit the Transform 76 program website.

Steel Repair Planned Next Week on the I-95 Girard Point Bridge in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that regional bridge repairs will continue next week on the Interstate 95 Girard Point Bridge in Philadelphia and two other interstate bridges in Bucks and Delaware counties.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

• Monday, October 10, through Friday, October 28, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, weekday lane closures are scheduled on the northbound and southbound decks on the I-95 Girard Point Bridge between Broad Street (Route 611) and Penrose Avenue (Route 291) in Philadelphia for steel repair;
• Tuesday, October 11, through Friday, October 14, from 7:30 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a single lane closure is scheduled on eastbound and/or westbound Interstate 295 between the Route 413 (Bristol) and Business U.S. 1/Route 413 (Penndel/Levittown) interchanges in Bristol and Middletown townships, Bucks County for bridge deck repair; and
• From 7:30 PM Friday, October 14, to 5:30 AM Monday, October 17, lane closures are scheduled on the ramp from northbound I-95 to northbound Interstate 476 (Plymouth Meeting) for bridge joint replacement.
  

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

The work is part of PennDOT's $44.5 million bridge improvement project to perform high-priority repairs on 14 structures on I-95, I-295 and I-476 in Philadelphia, Bucks and Delaware counties.

Repairs to the structures include replacing rocker bearings, frozen sliding plate bearings and deck expansion joints; cleaning and painting steel beams; repairing substructure concrete; and reconstructing bearing pedestals.

In addition, the project includes the replacement of 24 high mast light poles along the I-95 corridor in Philadelphia and Delaware counties.

Driscoll Construction Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 100% federal funds.

Township Line Road Lane Closures Begin Next Week for Utility Relocation in East Norriton, Whitpain Townships

King of Prussia, PA – Alternating lane closures will be in place weekdays on eastbound and westbound Township Line Road between U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) and Swede Road on Tuesday, October 11, through Tuesday, October 18, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for utility relocation operations under a project to improve, widen and reconstruct approximately 1.8 miles of U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) from Johnson Highway to Township Line Road in Norristown and East Norriton and Whitpain townships, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Motorists are advised to allow more time for travel through the work area because backups and slowdowns may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT's contractor will: 

• Reconstruct and widen U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) from the existing two lanes to two lanes northbound, one lane southbound and a center turn lane from Johnson Highway to Township Line Road;
• Install five-foot bicycle lanes in both directions along the entire project area;
• Build new sidewalks at various locations;
• Reconstruct one bridge and one box culvert;
• Construct two sound walls and retaining walls;
• Install new signals, signing and pavement markings;
• Perform drainage improvements; and
• Integrate Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to improve traffic flow.
  

This project is a critical part of a multi-phase program to reconstruct, widen and improve travel on a 9.1-mile section of U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) and selected intersections between Johnson Highway in Norristown and Route 309 in Montgomery Township.

Allan Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the $54.3 million project, which is financed with 100% federal funds.

I-95 Nighttime Lane Closures Scheduled for Roadway Construction in Delaware County

King of Prussia, PA – Single and double lane closures are scheduled at night on Interstate 95 in Delaware County between the Route 352/Route 320 (Exit 6) and Philadelphia International Airport (Exit 12) interchanges for various construction activities under a project to rehabilitate pavement and repair 15 structures on more than 11 miles of the interstate in Lower Chichester, Upper Chichester, Chester, Ridley and Tinicum townships, the City of Chester and Upland and Ridley Park boroughs, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule is:

• Saturday, October 8, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 10:00 AM on sections of northbound I-95;
• Sunday, October 9, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on sections of southbound I-95;
• Monday, October 10, through Thursday, October 13, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on sections of northbound and southbound I-95;
• Friday, October 14, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 10:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on sections of northbound and southbound I-95; and
• Saturday, October 15, and Sunday, October 16, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 10:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on sections of southbound I-95.
  

During all of these operations, the ramps from northbound and southbound I-95 to Ridley Park (Exit 8) and Route 420 (Exit 9A/9B) will be closed and detoured. I-95 motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour routes.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will mill, overlay and rehabilitate the existing concrete pavement including 41 ramps; perform minor structural repairs to 15 of the 33 bridges located in the project limits; repair sections of median barrier; upgrade guide rail; install new pavement markings, delineators and rumble strips; repair and clean existing inlets and pipes; and replace damaged or missing traffic signs. The Pennsylvania Welcome Center just north of the Delaware state line also will be improved with concrete base repairs and new parking stripes, pavement markings and signs.

During the closure, Curly Hill Road motorists will be directed to use Silo Hill Road, Stump Road, and Worthington Road. Local access will be maintained during the operation.

PA Turnpike to Close Thomas Road for Construction in Tredyffrin Township

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is planning to close Thomas Road between Walker Road and Gulph Road in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County, beginning Wednesday, October 5, for bridge construction operations, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. The lane closure will be in place 24/7 through Friday, October 21. 

During the closure, Thomas Road motorists will be directed to use Walker Road, Glenhardie Road, and Gulph Road. Local access will be maintained up to the work zone. 

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission will complete this project under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.
