PennDOT to Repair and Resurface 18 State Highways in the Philadelphia Region

King of Prussia, PA – Motorists will encounter lane restrictions on 18 state highways in the Philadelphia region for resurfacing operations as a part of several projects to repair and resurface more than 200 miles of state highway in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Work on these projects will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, special signage and relevant training.

The work schedule and locations are:

Bucks County

  • Monday, June 22, through Friday, June 26, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled on West Trenton Avenue between Pine Grove Road and Delmorr Avenue in Morrisville Township for paving operations;
  • Monday June 22, through Friday, June 26, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Route 32 (Bridge Street) between Business U.S. 1 (Lincoln Highway) and Delmorr Avenue in Morrisville Township for milling and paving operations; 
  • Monday, June 22, through Friday, June 26, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Bustleton Pike between Bristol Road & Valley Hill Trail in Southampton Township for high friction surface treatment;
  • Monday, June 22, through Friday, June 26, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Limekiln Pike between Upper Stump Road and New Galena Road in New Britain Township and Chalfont Borough for high friction surface treatment;
  • Monday, June 22, through Friday, June 26, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Aquetong Road between Old Windy Bush Road & Solebury Mountain Road in Solebury Township for high friction surface treatment;
  • Monday, June 22, through Friday, June 26, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Allentown Road between Rosedale Road & Keiser Road in Milford Township and Quakertown Borough for high friction surface treatment;
  • Monday, June 22, through Friday, June 26, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Route 152 (Limekiln Pike) between County Line Road and Butler Avenue in Chalfont Borough and Warrington Township for milling and paving operations; and
  • Monday, June 22, through Friday, June 26, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Allentown Road between Sterners Road and Schukraft Road in West Rockhill Township and Quakertown Borough for high friction surface treatment.

Chester County

  • Sunday, June 21, 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, a lane restriction is scheduled on Baltimore Pike/3rd Street between Barnsley Road and Market Street in Oxford Borough and East Nottingham Township for milling operations;
  • Monday, June 22, through Friday, June 26, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Sugartown Road between Waynesborough Road & Leopard Road in Tredyffrin Township for base repair operations; and
  • Monday, June 22, through Friday, June 26, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Strasburg Road between Doe Run Church Road & Fairview Road in East Fallowfield Township for high friction surface treatment.

Delaware County

  • Sunday, June 21, through Saturday, June 27, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, lane restrictions are scheduled on U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue) between Radnor Chester Road and Sugartown Road in Radnor Township for milling and paving operations; and
  • Monday, June 22, through Friday June 26, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Conestoga Road between Spring Mill Road & Hardwicke Lane in Radnor Township for milling operations.

Montgomery County

  • Sunday, June 21, through Saturday, June 27, from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Township Line Road between Limerick Road and Graterford Road in Perkiomen Township and Schwenksville Borough for milling and paving operations; and
  • Monday, June 22, through Thursday, June 25, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Manoa Road between Haverford Road and the Delaware County Line in Lower Merion Township for milling and paving operations.

Philadelphia County

  • Monday, June 22, through Friday, June 26, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Benjamin Franklin Parkway between 15th Street and Kelly Drive for prep operations;
  • Tuesday, June 23, through Friday, June 26, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, lane restrictions are scheduled on JFK Boulevard between 15th Street and 20th Street for paving operations; and
  • Wednesday, June 24, through Friday, June 26, 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, lane restrictions are scheduled on Benjamin Franklin Parkway between 15th Street and Kelly Drive for paving operations.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under these improvement projects, PennDOT is milling the existing roadway surface and repaving the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.

I-95 South Long-Term Lane Closure Begins Next Week for Bridge Repair over U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) in Bensalem Township

King of Prussia, PA – Southbound Interstate 95 motorists will encounter double lane closures next week for crews to prepare for long-term single lane closures on southbound I-95 and northbound U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) for bridge repair on the structure carrying the interstate over U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) in Bensalem Township, Bucks County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

On Monday, June 22, and Tuesday, June 23, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, a double lane closure is scheduled on southbound I-95 approaching the bridge over U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) to allow crews to install barrier and signs and perform line striping operations in preparation for a long-term right lane closure on southbound I-95.

Once the long-term pattern is established by or before 5:00 AM Wednesday, June 24, the right lane will remain closed on southbound I-95 approaching the bridge over U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) through mid-July or until repair work on the right parapet is completed. Once the right parapet is finished, the left lane on southbound I-95 will be close continuously for several weeks to allow crews to complete work on the left parapet.

In addition, sometime after 7:00 PM Monday, June 22, the right lane and shoulder are scheduled to close on northbound U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) between Bensalem Boulevard and Haunted Lane for crews to shift northbound and southbound U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike) traffic to prepare for the long-term pattern. The right lane and shoulder are scheduled to remain closed until both the right and left parapets on the bridge are completed in late summer.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and slowdowns will occur. All scheduled activities are weather permitting.

Several State Highways Restricted for Bridge Inspections in Chester, Delaware and Philadelphia Counties

King of Prussia PA – Lane restrictions are scheduled on several state highways in Chester, Delaware and Philadelphia counties for bridge inspections, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Work on these inspections will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, special signage and relevant training.

The work schedule is:

Chester County

  • Monday, June 22, from 9:00 Am to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled in both directions on U.S. 1 (Kennett Oxford Bypass) at the Route 41 (Avondale/Chatham) interchange in London Grove Township;
  • Tuesday, June 23, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions are scheduled in both directions on U.S. 1 (Kennett Oxford Bypass) between Route 41 (Avondale/ Chatham) and Toughkenamon/London Grove interchanges in London Grove Township; and
  • Wednesday, June 24, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a lane restriction is scheduled on Guernsey Road between Greenfield Lane and West Harmony Road in London Grove and West Grove townships.

Delaware County

  • Friday, June 19, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane restrictions with flagging are scheduled on Route 320 (Chester Road) between Rutgers Avenue and College Avenue in Swarthmore Borough.

.Philadelphia

  • Saturday, June 20, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, a left lane closure is scheduled on northbound I-95 between Route 291/Valley Forge and Route 611 (Broad Street) interchanges; 
  • Monday, June 22, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a right lane closure is scheduled on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive between Sweet Briar Drive and Spring Garden Street;
  • Wednesday, June 24, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a right lane closure is scheduled on northbound I-95 between Columbus Boulevard/Washington Avenue and I-676 (Vine Street Expressway) interchanges;
  • Friday, June 26, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, a left lane rolling closure is scheduled on northbound I-95 off-ramp to the Philadelphia International Airport interchange;
  • Friday, June 26, from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM, right and left lane rolling closures are scheduled on southbound I-95 between the Philadelphia International Airport/Route 291 and Route 420 interchanges; and
  • Friday, June 26, from11:30 AM to 3:00 PM, right and left lane rolling closures are scheduled on northbound I-95 between the Philadelphia International Airport and I-76/Route 291 interchanges.

U.S. 1, Street Road (Route 132) Lane Closures, Turnpike Ramp Closures Next Week for Construction in Bensalem Township

King of Prussia, PA – Daytime and nighttime lane restrictions will be in place on U.S. 1 and Street Road (Route 132), and the ramps to and from northbound U.S. 1 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be closed at night next week for bridge, roadway and utility construction on the project to widen and improve U.S.1 and reconstruct the interchange at Street Road (Route 132), the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. 

The work schedule is:

  • Monday, June 22, through Friday, June 26, from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, the ramps to and from northbound U.S. 1 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Toll Plaza will be closed for demolition of the center section of the U.S. 1 overpass;
  • Monday, June 22, through Saturday, June 27, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and Monday, June 22, through Friday, June 26, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, single lane closures will be in place on northbound or southbound U.S. 1 between Rockhill Drive and Old Lincoln Highway for roadway and bridge construction; and
  • Monday, June 22, through Saturday, June 27, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and Monday, June 22, through Friday, June 26, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, single lane closures will be in place on eastbound or westbound Street Road (Route 132) between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way for roadway and bridge construction.

During the Turnpike ramp closures, northbound U.S. 1 motorists heading for the Turnpike will be directed to the Neshaminy Exit, turn left on Rockhill Drive, then take  the ramp to southbound U.S. 1 back to the Turnpike exit. Motorists exiting the Turnpike and heading to northbound U.S. 1 will take the ramp to southbound U.S. 1 to eastbound Street Road (Route 132) to the ramp to northbound U.S. 1.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and slowdowns will occur. All scheduled activities are weather permitting.

Crews currently are reconstructing the middle section along 1.3 miles of U.S. 1, and the westbound side of Street Road (Route 132) under the second major stage of the project. Ongoing activities also include construction of the center sections of U.S. 1 bridges over Street Road (Route 132), the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the Turnpike ramps at the Bensalem Interchange, and utility installations in the middle of U.S. 1 and on Street Road (Route 132). 

Allan A. Myers, Inc. of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the $95.1 million project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. The project is expected to complete by late 2022.

This contract (RC1) is the first of three construction contracts to rebuild and widen U.S. 1; replace aging bridges; and install safety enhancements along a four-mile section of the expressway from just north of Philadelphia to just north of Route 413 (Pine Street) in Middletown Township and Langhorne Borough.  For more information, visit www.us1bucks.com.

I-76 East Weekend Closure Changed to Single Lane Closures for Viaduct Repairs in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – The scheduled closure of eastbound Interstate 76 for viaduct paving in Center City Philadelphia this weekend has been scaled back due to the forecast of rain to include only eastbound single lane closures this Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced (PennDOT) today.


In addition, eastbound and westbound I-76 will be reduced to one lane next week, and eastbound I-76 will be closed next weekend for paving and other repairs.

The schedule and locations are:

  • Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20, from 12:00 Noon to 11:00 PM, eastbound I-76 will be reduced to a single lane between the 30th Street and University Avenue interchanges for viaduct repairs and limited paving;
  • Monday, June 22, and Tuesday, June 23, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, eastbound I-76 will be reduced to a single lane between 30th Street and South Street interchanges for overhead viaduct repairs;
  • Wednesday, June 24, and Thursday, June 25,  from 12:00 Noon to 5:00 AM the following morning, eastbound I-76 will be reduced to a single lane between the 30th Street and University Avenue interchanges for viaduct repair;
  • Wednesday, June 24, and Thursday, June 25, from 12:00 Noon to 10:00 PM, westbound I-76 will be reduced to one lane between University Avenue and Interstate 676 interchanges for viaduct repairs; and
  • From 12:00 Noon Friday, June 26, to 5:00 AM Monday, June 29, eastbound I-76 will be closed and detoured between the 30th Street and University Avenue interchanges for milling and paving.

During this weekend's I-76 eastbound lane closures, the ramp to eastbound I-76 from Walnut Street will close Friday, June 19, and Saturday, June 20, from 12:00 Noon until 11:00 PM. Traffic will be detoured west on Walnut Street to 34th Street to access the ramp to I-76 east.

During Wednesday and Thursday's single lane closure on eastbound I-76, the South Street eastbound on- and off-ramps will be closed. Traffic normally using this off-ramp will exit at Spring Garden Street and follow the posted detour to South Street. Traffic normally using this on-ramp will follow the posted detour to 34th Street to access the ramp to I-76 east.

During next weekend's closure of eastbound I-76, through-traffic be directed to follow eastbound I-676 to southbound Interstate 95 back to I-76. Eastbound local motorists will exit at Spring Garden Street and follow the posted detour to 34th Street to access the ramp to I-76 east.

PennDOT is repairing and resurfacing the I-76 viaduct under a $39.8 million contract that also includes repairs to several I-76 bridges in Montgomery County. More information is available at www.I76viaduct.com.

Repairs to the Chestnut Street Bridge are part of PennDOT's $103.6 million project to rehabilitate the bridge and eight other nearby structures, including those carrying Schuylkill Avenue over I-76 between Walnut Street and Chestnut Street, and between Chestnut Street and Market Street. PennDOT to Rehabilitate the Bridge Carrying Friendship Church Road over Knight Run in West Fallowfield Township

King of Prussia, PA – Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, June 22, on a project to rehabilitate the bridge carrying Friendship Church Road over Knight Run in West Fallowfield Township, Chester County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Work on this project will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, and relevant training.

Due to the nature of construction, Friendship Church Road will be closed and detoured 24/7 between Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike) and McHenry Road beginning Monday, June 22, through the completion of the project scheduled for mid-July. 

During the bridge closure, Friendship Church Road motorists will be directed to use Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike) and Route 10 (Limestone Road). Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.

Built in 1934, the bridge is 18 feet long and 26 feet wide. The structure carries an average of 195 vehicles a day.

The Friendship Church Road Bridge is one of 11 structures in Chester, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties that PennDOT is repairing under a $9.8 million project financed by Act 89, the state's transportation plan.

Structures completed under this project include:
  • Boot Road over Route 100 in West Whiteland Township, Chester County;
  • Main Street over Norfolk Southern Railroad in Limerick Township, Montgomery County;
  • Route 611 over Pennypack Creek in Upper Moreland, Montgomery County;
  • Route 611 over the Pennsylvania Turnpike ramp in Upper Moreland, Montgomery County;
  • Old Lancaster Road over Amtrak in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County
  • Ross Fording Road over Octoraro Creek in West Fallowfield Township, Chester County;
  • Quakertown Road over Macoby Creek in Upper Hanover Township, Montgomery County; 
  • Route 63 (Welsh Road) over Norfolk Southern Railroad in Upper Dublin and Upper Moreland townships, Montgomery County; and
  • Whitford Road over Valley Creek in West Whiteland Township, Chester County.
The other bridge in this rehabilitation project include:

  • Route 532 (Bustleton Avenue) over CSX Railroad in Philadelphia.
Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, N.J., is the general contractor on this bridge improvement project that is financed with 100 percent state funds.
