UPDATE 7/28/23:
The Code Red Declaration has been extended to July 29 at 6pm.

Based on forecast information received from the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Code Red has been Declared starting on July 27 at 11am running through July 28 at 8pm. During this time period, the temperature and/or heat index is expected to be at or above 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Those, especially at risk, are very young children, elderly adults, and people with chronic medical conditions, and who take certain medications. Friends, relatives, or neighbors should check on people who may be at risk.

Residents of Montgomery County who need emergency shelter during a "Code Red" can call the Your Way Home Call Center at 2-1-1 or text their zip code to 898-211.

HELPFUL TIPS

• Drink plenty of non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated beverages.
• Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
• If at all possible, try to get outdoor work completed in the morning to avoid the warmest part of the day.
• Keep windows and interior doors open when running a fan at home.
• Keep cool by seeking an air-conditioned building, such as a mall, library, or senior center if available. If not, seek rest in the shade.

Motorists are advised that a weekday road closure is scheduled from Monday, July 31, through Friday, August 4, on Beidler Road between Geerdes Boulevard and Saratoga Road. During the closure, motorists are directed to use Geerdes Boulevard, Route 23 (Valley Forge Road), and Caley Road. The schedule is weather dependent.

CODE RED HOT WEATHER EMERGENCY | JULY 27-28, 2023

The "Code Red" declaration has been issued for Montgomery County beginning Thursday, July 27, 2023 at 11 a.m., and ending on Friday, July 28, 2023, at 8 p.m.

Code Red Hot Weather Health Warnings are issued in anticipation of an oppressively hot air mass with a heat index of 100ºF or greater. Such conditions can be deadly, and residents should take precautions to prevent heat-related stress and illness.

Those especially at risk are very young children, elderly adults, and people with chronic medical conditions, and who take certain medications.

Friends, relatives, or neighbors should check on people who may be at risk. Seek medical attention if you are experiencing symptoms of heat-related illness — including muscle cramps, headache, nausea, or vomiting.

Residents of Montgomery County who need emergency shelter during a "Code Red" can call the Your Way Home Call Center at 2-1-1.

ReadyMontco - Lansdale Emergency Alert Heat Advisory/Watch

Extreme heat is expected for Wednesday through Friday with the heat index potentially reaching the 100 to 105+ range beginning Thursday. Friday is the hottest day of the heat wave, but hot and humid conditions may persist through Saturday. A Heat Advisory has been issued for Montgomery County on Thursday, 7/27. An Excessive Heat Watch has been issued for the eastern portion of the county on Friday, 7/28 while the western portion of the county remains in a Heat Advisory.

Those, especially at risk, are very young children, elderly adults, and people with chronic medical conditions and who take certain medications. Friends, relatives or neighbors should check on people who may be at risk.

*Be sure there are no children or pets in the back of your vehicle while running errands.

If someone gets sick from heat, you need to act quickly. First, call 9-1-1. Then move them to shade or air conditioning. Use cool and damp rags or wrapped ice packs to help them cool down. Know the signs of heat stroke, which is a medical emergency and can only be treated in the hospital.
