PennDOT to Rehabilitate Remington Road Bridge in Lower Merion Township
6/28/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA
Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, July 11, to rehabilitate the
township-owned Remington Road bridge over the west branch of the Indian
Creek
in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation (PennDOT) today announced.
Remington Road will be closed and detoured between Minden Way and Roslyn
Lane
through October 2016 while crews replace the deteriorated bridge deck and
beams. During construction, Remington Road through traffic will be detoured
over U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue), U.S 1 (City Avenue), and Haverford Road.
The single-span, prestressed adjacent box beam bridge was built in 1955. It
is
22 feet long and 58 feet wide. It carries 10,000 vehicles a day. The bridge
is
posted with a 28-ton weight limit.
The improvement of the Remington Road bridge is part of PennDOT's $2.4
million
project to rehabilitate five township-owned, structurally deficient bridges
in
Montgomery County. This local bridge improvement project was enabled
through
Act 89, Pennsylvania's transportation plan.
In addition to Remington Road, PennDOT's contractor will replace the
superstructure (bridge deck and beams) on the Trewigtown Road bridge over
Neshaminy Creek in Hatfield Township. Construction on the Violet Lane
bridge
over the east branch of Indian Creek in Lower Merion Township, was
completed on
June 7, 2016, and work on the Oreland Mill Road bridge over Sunnybrook
Creek in
Springfield Township, was completed on June 13, 2016. Work on Keebler Road
bridge over Abrams Run in Upper Merion Township began on June 20, 2016, and
will be completed in August 2016.
J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
$2,684,206 project. The rehabilitation of the five bridges is expected to
be
completed in late 2016. The project is financed with 100 percent state
funds.
