U.S. 422 East Off-Ramp at First Avenue to Close Two Nights Next Week in Valley Forge

U.S. 422 East Off-Ramp at First Avenue to Close Two Nights Next Week in
Valley Forge

6/28/2016-KING OF PRUSSIA

The U.S. 422 east off-ramp at the First Avenue Interchange in Tredyffrin
Township, Chester County, will be closed and detoured on Tuesday, July 5,
and
Wednesday, July 6, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for
drainage,
milling, paving and line striping operations, the Pennsylvania Department
of
Transportation (PennDOT) said today.

PennDOT is widening the U.S. 422 eastbound exit ramp to two lanes to
improve
travel on the ramp as it approaches the intersection of First Avenue and
North
Gulph Road.

During the overnight ramp closures, a posted detour will direct U.S. 422
eastbound traffic to exit at Route 23, then turn right on Route 23 (Valley
Forge Road), and left at North Gulph Road to reach First Avenue.

The ramp construction is associated with the $97.4 million project to build

new, wider bridges to improve travel and carry U.S. 422 motorists over the
Schuylkill River, Norfolk Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and
Schuylkill
River Trail in West Norriton, Upper Merion and Lower Providence townships,
Montgomery County. This project also includes rebuilding U.S. 422 between
the
Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) and Route 363 (Trooper Road) interchanges;
upgrading Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) at its interchange with U.S. 422;
and
improving ramps at the Route 363 (Trooper Road), Route 23 (Valley Forge
Road)
and First Avenue interchanges. Construction began in February 2016 and is
scheduled to finish in May 2020.

The contractor's work schedule is dependent on the weather.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
the
$97,380,711 contract. The project is financed with 80 percent federal and
20
percent state funds.
