Wolf Administration Announces Construction to Begin on Project to Rehabilitate Holme Avenue Bridge in Pennypack Park Philadelphia
Wolf Administration Announces Construction to Begin on Project to
Rehabilitate Holme Avenue Bridge in Pennypack Park Philadelphia
7/31/2017-KING OF PRUSSIA
The Wolf Administration announced today that construction is scheduled to
begin
next week on a project to rehabilitate the structurally deficient bridge
carrying Holme Avenue over Wooden Bridge Run in Pennypack Park in
Philadelphia.
The project is scheduled to finish by the end of the year.
"Our commitment to the rehabilitation of these bridges is paying enormous
dividends to travelers and local economies," Governor Tom Wolf said. "This
type
of work not only ensures the structural integrity and safety of our
bridges,
but provides local family-sustaining jobs."
Beginning Monday, August 7, and continuing through mid-October, PennDOT
will
rehabilitate the Holme Avenue bridge between Longford Street and Arthur
Street
while keeping the road open to one lane of traffic in each direction during
construction. In addition, one sidewalk will remain open at all times.
PennDOT is rehabilitating the bridge by repairing cracks in the concrete
arch
structure and the headwall beneath the drainage pipe; cleaning debris from
the
stream channel; removing trees that are undermining the abutments and wing
walls; conserving and resetting the bridge plaques; and repairing the
concrete
pylons and balustrade on the bridge. Once work is completed, the bridge
will no
longer be categorized as structurally deficient.
The one-span concrete arch-deck bridge was built in 1921. It is 86 feet
long
and 80 feet wide and carries an average of 16,611 vehicles a day.
Road-Con Inc. of West Chester, Chester County is the general contractor on
the
$1,329,212 project. Construction is financed with 100 percent state funds.

The Hollow Road (Sheeder Hall) Covered Bridge over French Creek is one of
four
covered bridges in Chester County PennDOT repaired as part of a $3.7
million
covered bridge improvement project.
The other bridges completed under this project include the Speakman Covered
Bridge over Buck Run on Frog Hollow Road in West Marlborough and East
Fallowfield townships; the Rapps Dam Covered Bridge on Rapps Dam Road in
East
Pikeland Township; and the Knox Covered Bridge on Yellow Springs Road in
Valley
Forge National Historical Park and Tredyffrin Township.
Eastern Highway Specialists, Inc. of Wilmington, Del., was the general
contractor on the project financed by a combination of federal and state
funds.

U.S. 30 East Ramp to U.S. 202 Closed Overnights Next Week for Bridge Rehabilitations in Chester County
U.S. 30 East Ramp to U.S. 202 Closed Overnights Next Week for Bridge
Rehabilitations in Chester County
7/28/2017-KING OF PRUSSIA
The ramp from eastbound U.S. 30/Exton Bypass to northbound U.S. 202 is
scheduled to close in East Whiteland and West Whiteland townships, Chester
County, on Monday, July 31, through Friday, August 4, from 10:00 PM to 5:00
AM
the following morning for overhead bridge construction, as part of the
final
phase of the U.S. 202 Section 300 improvement project, which includes the
rehabilitation of two U.S. 202 bridges over Amtrak rail lines, the
Pennsylvania
Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
During the overnight ramp closure, motorists will be detoured to the
Business
U.S. 30 exit, right on eastbound Business U.S. 30 and right onto the ramp
to
northbound U.S. 202.
Prior to each night's closure, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, there will be lane
restrictions on the ramp from eastbound U.S. 30/Exton Bypass to northbound
U.S.
202.
Eastbound U.S. 30 motorists should expect backups and slow moving traffic
when
approaching the ramp to northbound U.S. 202. The contractor's schedule is
weather dependent.
PennDOT is rehabilitating the steel superstructures and re-decking the
northbound and southbound U.S. 202 bridges over the ramp and the adjacent
Amtrak rail lines as part of a $26.4 million project that also includes
replacement of the deteriorated concrete on the U.S. 202 ramps to and from
the
U.S. 30/Exton Bypass.
Construction is underway through mid-2018 on the northbound U.S. 202 bridge
and
on the ramp from southbound U.S. 202 to the U.S. 30/Exton Bypass, where
one-of-the-two lanes on the ramp is closed. Both the bridge and the ramp
are
being rebuilt a-half-at-a-time.
PennDOT is maintaining two lanes of traffic in each direction on U.S. 202
while
the bridges are rehabilitated. During construction on the northbound U.S.
202
bridge, the left northbound lane shifts to the southbound bridge as an
express
lane while the right northbound lane remains on the northbound side through
the
work zone.
The southbound U.S. 202 ramp lane closure may cause traffic backups,
especially
during peak travel times approaching the U.S. 30/Exton Bypass Interchange.
Southbound U.S. 202 motorists traveling to the interchange should remain in
the
right lane, leaving the center and left lane for motorists continuing south
on
U.S. 202.
The ramp closure will allow PennDOT's contractor to complete installation
of
shielding on the underside of the northbound U.S. 202 bridge over Amtrak
and
the adjacent ramp, and begin demolition of half the bridge's concrete deck
and
parapets.
Allan A. Myers, Inc. of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general
contractor
on the $26,370,555 project which is financed with 100 percent federal
funds.

Intermittent lane closures are scheduled on northbound Interstate 95
between
the Route 413 and U.S. 1 interchanges on Friday, August 4, through Sunday,
