Wolf Administration Announces Work to Begin to Rehabilitate Nine Bridges in Philadelphia Region

Wolf Administration Announces Work to Begin to Rehabilitate Nine Bridges in
Philadelphia Region

9/27/2017-KING OF PRUSSIA

The Wolf Administration announced today that construction is scheduled to
begin
next week on an improvement project to rehabilitate eight bridges and one
culvert in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.

"Infrastructure investment is crucial, and bridges are a critical part of
our
network. Not only do they connect communities, but they support commerce
and
foster economic growth," Governor Tom Wolf said. "This bridge improvement
project is our latest in the ongoing effort to address
structurally-deficient
bridges throughout the state."

Beginning Monday, October 2, through early May, the Sugan Road bridge over
Cuttalossa Creek will be closed and detoured between Creamery Road and
Paxson
Road in Solebury Township, Bucks County.

During the seven-month closure, Sugan Road motorists will be detoured over
Route 263 (Upper York Road), Route 32 (River Road) and Green Hill Road.
Local
access will be maintained up to the construction zone.

PennDOT's contractor will rehabilitate the stone masonry arch bridge by
reinforcing the walls and barrier; repointing masonry of the arch barrel
and
support abutments; and replacing guiderail.

The one-span structure was built in 1886. It is 20 feet long and 23 feet
wide
and carries about 4,332 vehicles a day.

The other structures included in this nine bridge rehabilitation project
include the following:

• Route 232 (2nd Street Pike) over Branch of Mill Creek in Wrightstown
Township, Bucks County;
• Old Forty Foot Road over Branch of Skippack Creek in Lower Salford and
Towamencin townships, Montgomery County;
• Hares Hill Road over French Creek in East Pikeland Township, Chester
County;
• Baltimore Pike over Darby Creek in Clifton Heights and Lansdowne boroughs
and
Upper Darby Township, Delaware County;
• State Road/Lansdowne Avenue over Cobbs Creek in Upper Darby Township,
Delaware County, and the City of Philadelphia;
• Wissahickon Avenue over Monoshone Creek in Philadelphia;
• Ridge Pike over Perkiomen Creek in Collegeville Borough and Lower
Providence
Township, Montgomery County; and
• Morwood Road culvert over Branch of Perkiomen Creek in Franconia
Township,
Montgomery County.

Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in late summer 2019.

J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is the general contractor on
this
$7,407,987 bridge improvement project that is financed with 100 percent
state
funds through Act 89, Pennsylvania's transportation plan.
