Allegheny Avenue Ramp to I-95 South to Close Next Week for Construction in Philadelphia
King of Prussia, PA — The Allegheny Avenue ramp to southbound Interstate 95 in Philadelphia will close Monday, May 11, through Wednesday, May 13, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM for reconstruction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
Work on this project will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, special signage and relevant training.
Traffic normally using the ramp will be detoured south on Allen Street (a temporary street located immediately adjacent to the east side of I-95 at the interchange), south on Richmond Street, north on Aramingo Avenue to the spur to southbound Aramingo Avenue and the ramp to southbound I-95.
During the closure, crews will excavate the existing pavement on a section of the ramp and replace it with several layers of asphalt in preparation for an upcoming traffic shift on the ramp for reconstruction of the southbound I-95 pavement south of Allegheny Avenue.
In addition to the ramp closure, Cambria Street in Port Richmond will be closed between Richmond and Salmon streets on Thursday, May 14, and Friday, May 15, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM for I-95 viaduct construction. Motorists will be detoured on Lehigh Avenue around the work area.
The work, which is weather permitting, is part of the $312 million project currently underway through 2023 to replace the southbound I-95 viaduct between Palmer Street in Fishtown and Ann Street in Port Richmond, reconstruct and improve the southbound on- and off-ramps at the Girard Avenue Interchange, and rebuild the southbound I-95 pavement between Allegheny Avenue and Ann Street.
