U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) Overnight Lane Closures This Week, Next Week for Bridge Rehabilitation in Philadelphia
King of Prussia, PA – Lane closures will be in place on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) between the westbound Interstate 76 on-ramp and the 16th Street overpass in Philadelphia this week and next week, with southbound restrictions starting at 6:00 PM and northbound lane closures beginning at 9:00 PM for various construction activities in two adjacent work areas, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
Work on this project will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, special signing, and relevant training.
The work locations and times are:
- Thursday, May 7, and Friday, May 8, and Monday, May 11 through Friday, May 15, from 6:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, southbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) will be reduced to a single lane continuously from the 16th Street overpass to north of Ridge Avenue for rehabilitation of the half-mile long Wayne Junction Viaduct and for painting of the Fox Street overpass; and
- Thursday, May 7, and Friday, 8, and Monday, May 11, through Friday, May 15, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, northbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) will be reduced to a single lane continuously from the on-ramp from westbound I-76 to the 16th Street overpass for rehabilitation of the viaduct and painting of the Fox Street overpass.
Periodic brief stoppages in either direction for equipment repositioning and other activities also may occur in the viaduct work area during the overnight construction.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) through the work areas because slowdowns and backups will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
The contractor is currently rehabilitating and repainting the structural components and placing new concrete pavement on the center section of the U.S. 1 viaduct and rehabilitating the Fox Street overpass.
South State, Inc. of Bridgeton, N.J. is the general contractor on the $90.7 million project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. The entire project is expected to be completed in late 2022. For more information, visit www.us1wav.com.
