PennDOT - District 6 News

I-76 East Lane Closures at Night Next Week for Viaduct Rehabilitation in Center City Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Eastbound Interstate 76 will be reduced to one lane between the Interstate 676 and South Street exits on Monday, January 27, through Thursday, January 30, from 9:00 PM until 5:00 AM the following morning for overhead viaduct construction in Center City Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

If any of the weeknight activities are cancelled due to weather, eastbound I-76 may be reduced to a single lane between the I-676 and South Street exits from 9:00 PM Friday, January 31, to 5:00 AM Saturday, February 1.

Drivers are advised to use an alternate route or allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur.

Repairs to the Schuylkill Avenue viaduct are part of PennDOT's $103.6 million project to rehabilitate the Chestnut Street bridge over the Schuylkill River — which is closed until August 2020 for repairs — and eight other nearby structures, including those carrying Schuylkill Avenue over I-76 between Walnut Street and Chestnut Street, and between Chestnut Street and Market Street.
