Beginning at approximately 8:00 PM Monday, November 6, southbound
Schuylkill
Avenue near 30th Street Station in Philadelphia will be closed between
Market
Street and Chestnut Street for approximately 15 months for rehabilitation
of
the structure over eastbound Interstate 76, the Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. The closure will allow crews to
remove the median islands and paving on Schuylkill Avenue and rehabilitate
the
section of the Schuylkill Avenue viaduct over eastbound I-76.
During the 15-month closure, motorists traveling eastbound on Market Street
will no longer be permitted to turn right onto southbound Schuylkill Avenue
to
access the ramp to eastbound I-76 at Walnut Street. Drivers wanting access
to
the ramp will be directed to use 23rd Street and Walnut Street.
In addition to the closure, lane restriction will be in place on eastbound
Chestnut Street between 31st Street and Schuylkill Avenue from 9:00 PM
Monday,
November 6, to 5:00 AM Tuesday, November 7, for barrier placement and line
painting to establish a new, long-term traffic pattern.
The new pattern will narrow that two-block section of Chestnut Street from
three through lanes-to-two through lanes. The pattern change is related to
the
rehabilitation of the viaduct that carries Chestnut Street over rail lines
and
other facilities between 30th Street and Schuylkill Avenue.
For pedestrians, the sidewalk on the south side of Market Street at

• Installing a new clear acrylic barrier along Amtrak Northeast Corridor

project to rehabilitate eight bridges over I-95 and CSX Railroad in the
city,

The ramp from Route 352 (Edgmont Avenue) to southbound Interstate 95 is
scheduled to close weekdays beginning Monday, November 6, through Friday,
November 17, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for construction activities related
to a
project to rehabilitate eight bridges over I-95 and CSX Railroad in the
city,
the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
During the weekday closure, motorists will be directed to use Route 352
(Edgmont Avenue), U.S. 13 (9th Street) and Kerlin Street to access
southbound
I-95.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area
because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather
dependent.
Under this improvement project, PennDOT is rehabilitating the multi-span,
steel
girder bridges on Potter Street, Madison Street, Upland Street, Melrose
Avenue,
Chestnut Street, Edgmont Avenue, and the Crosby Street and Walnut Street

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today
that it
has reopened the bridge carrying New Second Street over Tacony Creek in
Cheltenham Township, Montgomery County. The bridge had been closed since
late
June.
PennDOT's contractor rehabilitated the structure by replacing the box beams
and
bridge barrier; installing new guide rail; repairing the substructure; and
resurfacing the approach roadway.
The New Second Street bridge over Tacony Creek was built in 1959. The
single-span concrete box beam bridge is 44 feet long, 58 feet wide and
carries
an average of 13,589 vehicles a day.
The structure is one of eight bridges in Bucks, Delaware, Montgomery and
Philadelphia counties that PennDOT is repairing under a $7,555,555 project
financed by Act 89, the state's transportation plan.
PennDOT has completed the rehabilitations of the U.S. 13 (Bristol Pike)
bridge
over Martins Creek in Falls Township, Bucks County; Chinquapin Road bridge
over
Iron Works Creek in Northampton Township, Bucks County; Dark Hollow Road
bridge
over Tohickon Creek in Tinicum Township, Bucks County; Route 32 (South Main
