Route 100 (Pottstown Pike) Lane Restrictions Scheduled Next Week for Safety
Improvement Project in Chester County

Nighttime and daytime lane restrictions are scheduled next week on Route
100
(Pottstown Pike) between Black Horse Road and Route 23 (Ridge Road) in
Chester
County for construction activities related to a project to improve traffic
flow
and safety along a 6.3-mile section of Route 100 (Pottstown Pike), the
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
The work schedule is:
• Sunday, April 29, and Monday, April 30, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, lane
restrictions are scheduled in both directions on Route 100 (Pottstown Pike)
between Black Horse Road and Route 23 (Ridge Road) in Upper Uwchlan, West
Vincent, East Nantmeal and South Coventry townships, for paving operations;
and
• Monday, April 30, through Friday, May 4, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, lane
restrictions are scheduled in both directions on Route 100 (Pottstown Pike)
between Black Horse Road and Route 23 (Ridge Road) in Upper Uwchlan, West
Vincent, East Nantmeal and South Coventry townships, for clearing
operations.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work
zone
because slowdowns and backups will occur during construction. The
contractor's
schedule is weather dependent.
Over the next several months, crews will work to improve the stretch of
Route
100 (Pottstown Pike) between Garrison Drive and Route 23 (Ridge Road). The
scope of work includes resurfacing the corridor with an open-graded surface
treatment (NovaChip) to increase friction and reduce hydroplaning;
constructing
two shoulder-widening pull-offs; and installing pavement markings, rumble
strips, and guide rail.
In addition, PennDOT's contractor will improve the intersection of Route
100
(Pottstown Pike) and Route 23 (Ridge Road) by constructing a dedicated
northbound left-turn lane as well as updating traffic signals.
Allan A. Myers, LP, of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general
contractor
on the $5.6 million project, which is financed with 100 percent federal
funds.
The entire project is scheduled to be completed in late summer.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today reopened the
bridge carrying White Horse Road over a branch of Pickering Creek in
Schuylkill
Township, Chester County.
Over the last three months, PennDOT's contractor worked to replace the
existing
bridge with a concrete rigid frame structure as well as upgrade all safety
features. The new structure is 13 feet long and 24 feet wide.
The new bridge replaces the single-span, concrete encased steel I-beam
structure, which was built in 1927. That bridge was 11 feet long and 22
feet
wide, and carried an average of 4,671 vehicles a day.
This bridge replacement was performed under PennDOT's $11,766,000 project
to
rehabilitate 10 structurally-deficient bridges in Bucks, Chester,
Montgomery
and Philadelphia counties, and replace six structurally-deficient culverts
in
Bucks, Chester and Delaware counties.
The bridges/culverts currently under construction include:
• Pocopson Road over Pocopson Creek in Pennsbury and Pocopson townships,
Chester County;
• Grubbs Mill Road over Crum Creek in Willistown Township, Chester County;
• Street Road over Octoraro Creek in Upper Oxford Township, Chester County;
and
• MacDade Boulevard over the Muckinipattis Creek in Glenolden Borough,
Delaware
County.
Structures completed under this project include:
• Rocky Ridge Road over a branch of Tohickon Creek in Richland Township,
Bucks
County;
• State Road over a branch of Cooks Creek in Springfield Township, Bucks
County;
• Route 282 (Creek Road) over a branch of Brandywine Creek in East
Brandywine
Township, Chester County;
• Route 113 (Souderton Road) over Mill Creek in Hilltown Township, Bucks
County;
• Henry Avenue over Wissahickon Creek in Philadelphia;
• The historic Loux Covered Bridge over Cabin Run on Carver-Wismer Road in
Bedminster Township, Bucks County;
• Oxford Valley Road over U.S. 1 in Falls, Lower Makefield and Middletown
townships, Bucks County;
• Route 663 (Layfield Road) bridge over Green Lane Reservoir Creek in Upper
Hanover Township, Montgomery County;
• Edenton Road bridge over Rattlesnake Run in Upper Oxford Township,
Chester
County;
• Torresdale Avenue bridge over Academy Road in Philadelphia; and
• Route 82 (Doe Run Road) over a branch of Sucker Run in East Fallowfield
