Several I-76/U.S. 202 Interchange Ramps to Close at Night Next Week for Pavement Restoration in Montgomery County

King of Prussia, PA – Several Interstate 76/U.S. 202 Interchange ramps will be closed and detoured at night next week for pavement restoration as part of a major improvement project to repair and resurface 12.5 miles of I-76 in Upper Merion Township, West Conshohocken Borough and Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule is:

Monday, September 10, and Tuesday, September 11, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM:

• I-76 West ramp to U.S. 202 South and U.S. 422 West will be closed. Motorists will be directed to continue on I-76 West to Mall Boulevard, turn right on Mall Boulevard, left on North Gulph Road and right on U.S. 202 South to access U.S. 422 West; 
  
• U.S. 202 South ramp to I-76 East and U.S. 422 West will be closed. Motorists will be directed to continue south and exit at Route 252 (Valley Forge Road) and follow signs back to U.S. 202 North to I-76 East/U.S. 422 West; and
  
• U.S. 202 South/North Gulph Road to I-76 West will be closed and detoured. Southbound U.S. 202 motorists will be directed to follow signs to I-76 East, U.S. 202 North and I-76 West. North Gulph Road motorists will use U.S. 202 South and follow signs to I-76 East, U.S. 202 North and I-76 West.
  

Wednesday, September 12, and Thursday, September 13, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM:

• I-76 East ramp to U.S. 202 North will be closed. Motorists will be directed to continue on I-76 East, exit at Gulph Mills and take South Gulph Road to U.S. 202 North;
  
• I-76 West ramp to US 202 North will be closed. Motorists will be directed to continue on I-76 West, exit at Mall Boulevard and continue to North Gulph Road to access U.S. 202 North; and
  
• U.S. 202 North ramp to I-76 West will be closed. Motorists will be directed to continue on U.S. 202 North, make a right on South Gulph Road and follow signs for I-76 West.
  

In the event of rain, the contractor will work on Friday, September 14, from 9:00 PM to 9:00 AM the following morning. 

In addition, single lane closures are scheduled on I-76 in both directions between the U.S. 202 and U.S. 1 (City Avenue) interchanges on Monday, September 10, through Thursday, September 13, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning.

Motorists are advised to use an alternate route or allow extra time when traveling near the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this improvement project, PennDOT is milling, overlaying and rehabilitating existing pavement; performing base repairs; installing new guide rail; repairing or replacing damaged traffic signs, two overhead sign structures and numerous expansion joints on three structures; and installing rumble strips, delineators and new mileage markers along the four-lane section of I-76.

The resurfacing of mainline I-76 in Montgomery County was completed in October 2017, while work on the entire project will finish later this summer or fall.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Chester County is the general contractor on the $24.7 million project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.

I-95 Overnight Lane Closures for Overhead Bridge Construction in the City of Chester, Delaware County

King of Prussia, PA – Double lane closures are scheduled on northbound and southbound Interstate 95 between the Chestnut Street and Edgmont Avenue overpasses in the City of Chester, Delaware County, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for construction to rehabilitate eight bridges over I-95 and CSX Railroad in the city, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. 

The work schedule is:

• Monday, September 10, northbound I-95 left and center lane closures;
  
• Tuesday, September 11, and Wednesday, September 12, northbound I-95 right and center lane closures;
  
• Thursday, September 13, northbound and southbound I-95 left and center lane closures;
  
• Friday, September 14, southbound I-95 left and center lane closures;
  
• Monday, September 17, northbound I-95 left and center lane closures; and
  
• Tuesday, September 18, southbound I-95 left and center lane closures.
  

In the event of rain, the contractor will work Wednesday, September 19, through Friday, September 21, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM.  

Under this $19.1 million improvement project, PennDOT is rehabilitating the multi-span, steel girder bridges on Potter Street, Madison Street, Upland Street, Melrose Avenue, Chestnut Street, Edgmont Avenue, and the Crosby Street and Walnut Street pedestrian structures. The contractor is also improving the I-95 south exit ramp at Chestnut Street. 

PennDOT owns the Edgmont Avenue and Madison Street bridges, and the City of Chester owns the remaining six structures.  

In addition to the bridge and ramp improvements, PennDOT's contractor is repairing Chestnut Street and Morton Avenue from 12th Street to 4th Street; reconstructing curbs and sidewalks; milling and resurfacing the streets; installing a new traffic signal at Chestnut Street and Morton Avenue; upgrading the traffic signal at Morton Avenue and 7th Street; and reconstructing Morton Avenue from 7th Street to 4th Street to lower the road under the Amtrak overpass to increase vertical clearance.    

South State, Inc. of Bridgeton, N.J. is the general contractor on this project which is financed with 100 percent state funds.

PECO to Close Eagle Road, County Line Road Next Week for Utility Improvements in Delaware and Montgomery Counties

King of Prussia, PA – PECO Energy is planning to close Eagle Road and County Line Road in Delaware and Montgomery counties beginning next week for gas main improvements, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced.

 

The work schedule is:

• Monday, September 10, through Friday, September 14, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, Eagle Road will be closed between St. Denis Lane and Earlington Road in Haverford township, Delaware County.  During the nighttime closure, motorists will be directed to use Earlington Road, Brookline Boulevard and Darby Road; and
  
• Monday, September 10, through Monday, October 1, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, County Line Road will be closed weekdays between Old Lancaster Road and Old Railroad Avenue in Radnor Township, Delaware County and Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County. During the closure, motorists will be directed to use U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue) and Bryn Mawr Avenue.
  

Local access will be maintained up to both construction zones. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through these work areas. All scheduled activities are weather permitting.

PECO Energy will complete these projects under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.

Kelly Drive Daytime and Nighttime Lane Closures Scheduled Next Week for Line Painting Operations in Philadelphia

​King of Prussia, PA – Daytime and nighttime lane closures are scheduled in both directions on Kelly Drive at the Gustine Lake Interchange from Lincoln Drive to just west of the Falls Bridge in Philadelphia, on Monday, September 10, through Friday, September 14, from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM and 6:30 PM to 6:30 AM, for resurfacing operations, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work zone because slowdowns and backups will occur during construction. The contractor's schedule is dependent on the weather.

PennDOT's contractor is repairing the road base, milling the existing roadway surface, and repaving Kelly Drive with an ultra-thin friction course pavement. The friction course is designed to improve traction and help channel storm water off the roadway.

The work is part of a project to repair and resurface 3.5 miles of Kelly Drive between 25th Street and Hunting Park Avenue and the Kelly Drive ramp to Ridge Avenue. The project also included improvements to 22 curb ramps. This work has been completed.

Tony DePaul and Son of Philadelphia, PA is the general contractor on the $1,843,749 project which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.

Route 611 (Easton Road) Ramp Closure Overnights in Upper Moreland Township, Montgomery County

​King of Prussia, PA – Motorists will encounter an overnight ramp closure from the Pennsylvania Turnpike to southbound Route 611 (Easton Road) in Upper Moreland Township, Montgomery County, for abutment repairs and other construction activities as part of a project to rehabilitate two Route 611 (Easton Road) bridges, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule is:

• Wednesday, September 12, and Thursday, September 13, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM;
• Friday, September 14, from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM;
• Saturday, September 15, from 11:00 PM to 8:00 AM;
• Sunday, September 16, through Thursday, September 20, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM;
• Friday, September 21, from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM;
• Saturday, September 22, from 11:00 PM to 8:00 AM;
• Sunday, September 23, through Thursday, September 27, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM; and
• Friday, September 28, from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM.

During construction, motorists will be directed to use Home Depot Drive and Route 611 (Easton Road).

Motorists are advised to allow additional time for travel on Route 611 (Easton Road) through the work area. The work schedule is weather dependent.

These restrictions are necessary to advance this project into Stage 6, during which crews will complete abutment and bridge wall repairs.

Mainline bridge construction is scheduled to be completed this month. Once the bridge work is finished, the contractor will utilize overnight lane closures for the resurfacing of Route 611 (Easton Road) in this area. Work on both bridges is being performed concurrently to minimize traffic impacts.

The final phase of the project involves repairs to bridge walls and abutments adjacent to two ramps at the Route 611/Pennsylvania Turnpike Interchange, an operation that will result in overnight closures of the turnpike ramp to southbound Route 611 and the ramp to the Pennsylvania Turnpike from southbound Route 611.

Route 611 (Easton Road) motorists will continue to encounter lane closures and changing traffic patterns during this multi-stage project. Drivers must allow considerably more time for travel through the Pennsylvania Turnpike Interchange during construction on the two bridges because northbound and southbound Route 611 (Easton Road) are reduced to one lane in areas from just north of Home Depot Drive to Wyandotte Road.

PennDOT's contractor is improving the bridges on Route 611 by removing the deteriorated concrete surfaces and installing new concrete overlays to protect the decks and provide smoother riding surfaces. Crews are also sealing expansion joints; repairing concrete beams; installing downspouts; adding rock protection along the support abutments at the bridge over the branch of Pennypack Creek; and repairing concrete walls and abutments.

Built in the 1950s, the bridges are 1,115 feet apart and carry about 31,500 vehicles a day.

The bridge carrying Route 611 (Easton Road) over Pennypack Creek is a single-span, reinforced concrete T-beam bridge that is 30 feet long and 64 feet wide.

The bridge carrying Route 611 (Easton Road) over the Pennsylvania Turnpike ramps is a single-span, reinforced concrete T-beam bridge that is 41 feet long and 78 feet wide.

The two bridges are among nine structures in Chester and Montgomery counties that PennDOT is repairing under a $7,296,296 project financed by Act 89, the state's transportation plan.

Bridges completed under this project include:

• Old Lancaster Road over Amtrak in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County;
• Ross Fording Road over Octoraro Creek in West Fallowfield Township, Chester County;
• Quakertown Road over Macoby Creek in Upper Hanover Township, Montgomery County; and
• Route 63 (Welsh Road) over Norfolk Southern Railroad in Upper Dublin and Upper Moreland townships, Montgomery County.

The other bridges in this rehabilitation project include:

• Boot Road over Route 100 in West Whiteland Township, Chester County;
• Whitford Road over Valley Creek in West Whiteland Township, Chester County; and
• Linfield Road over Norfolk Southern Railroad in Limerick Township, Montgomery County.

Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in August 2020.

Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, N.J., is the general contractor on this bridge improvement project that is financed with 100 percent state funds.
