I-95 Lane Closures Next Week at Betsy Ross Bridge, Girard Avenue, Penn's Landing for Construction in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA — Motorists using Interstate 95 in Philadelphia will encounter daytime and overnight lane closures next week and next weekend for construction and related activities at the Betsy Ross Bridge, Girard Avenue, and Penn's Landing interchanges, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedules and locations are:

• Monday, November 9, through Friday, November 13, from 9:00 PM to12:00 Midnight, one northbound lane will close at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange, with a second northbound lane closing from 12:00 Midnight to 5:00 AM the following morning, for overhead ramp demolition;
• Monday, November 9, through Thursday, November 12, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, alternating northbound or southbound lane closures will be in place in the Penn's Landing area for soil borings; and
• Wednesday, November 11, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Saturday, November 14, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, southbound I-95 will be reduced from three-lanes-to-two in the work zone between the Allegheny Avenue and Girard Avenue interchanges for median barrier construction.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Work on these projects will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, special signage and relevant training.

The work between Allegheny Avenue and Girard Avenue is part of the $312 million project currently underway through 2023 at the Girard Avenue Interchange.

The demolition is part of the ongoing $93.6 million ramp reconstruction at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange.

The soil borings are part of design engineering activities underway for upcoming reconstruction of I-95 in the area of Penn's Landing.

Several State Highways Restricted Next Week for Resurfacing in Philadelphia Region

King of Prussia, PA – Motorists will encounter lane restrictions on several state highways in Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties for resurfacing operations as a part of several projects to repair and resurface more than 200 miles of state highway in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedules and locations are:

Delaware County

• Sunday, November 8, through Friday, November 13, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, lane closures are scheduled on Bishop Hollow Road between Route 3 (West Chester Pike) and Ridley Creek Road in Newtown and Upper Providence townships for milling and paving operations.

Montgomery County

• Sunday, November 8, through Saturday, November 14, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, lane closures are scheduled on Route 63 (Welsh Road) between West Orvilla Road and Route 363 (Valley Forge Road) and on Route 363 (Valley Forge Road) between Route 63 (Welsh Road) and Germantown Pike in Lansdale, Hatfield boroughs, and Towamencin, Upper Gwynedd, and Worcester townships for milling, paving and manhole adjustments; and
• Wednesday, November 11, through Saturday, November 14, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, lane closures are scheduled on Morris Road between School Road/Plymouth Road and Route 363 (Valley Forge Road) in Upper Gwynedd, Worcester and Whitpain townships for milling, paving and manhole adjustments.

Philadelphia

• Monday, November 16, through Friday, November 20, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, lane closures are scheduled on southbound Interstate 95 between the Academy Road and Cottman Avenue interchanges for milling and paving operations.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under these improvement projects, PennDOT is milling the existing roadway surface and repaving the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.

Work on these projects will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, special signage and relevant training.

U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) Lane Closures at Night Next Week for Viaduct Rehabilitation in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Nighttime lane closures will be in place in both directions next week on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) as the contractor completes setting the new work zone traffic pattern and begins the next stage of rehabilitation on the Wayne Junction Viaduct over SEPTA tracks and the Nicetown neighborhood in North Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.
 
The work schedule, which is weather dependent, is: 

• Monday, November 9, through Friday, November 13, from 6:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, southbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) will be reduced to a single lane between 17th Street and Fox Street; and
• Monday, November 9, through Friday, November 13, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, northbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) will be reduced to a single lane between Fox Street and 17th Street.

In addition to lane closures, traffic in either direction also may be slowed periodically for activities in the work area during nighttime construction.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) through the work area because slowdowns and backups will occur.

Stage 2 of the project will rehabilitate and repave the viaduct's southbound left lane. The new pattern, which will remain in place until spring 2021, splits southbound traffic through the half-mile long work zone by placing one lane of southbound traffic on the rehabilitated median, with a second southbound lane remaining in the outside lane. Two lanes of northbound traffic remain on the northbound side.

Work on this project will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, special signing, and relevant training.

U.S. 422 East Lane Closure Next Week for Paving, Shoulder Work, Guide Rail Replacement in Montgomery County

King of Prussia, PA – Eastbound U.S. 422 motorists will encounter a lane closure between Park Road and Township Line Road and at the Limerick and Sanatoga interchanges on Monday, November 9, through Saturday, November 14, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, for asphalt paving, guide rail replacement and shoulder work under a project to rehabilitate pavement and repair seven structures along a five-mile section of U.S. 422 between the Royersford/Trappe and Sanatoga interchanges in Limerick and Lower Pottsgrove townships, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

In addition, westbound U.S. 422 travelers can expect shoulder closures between Lewis Road and Evergreen Road and at the Sanatoga Interchange ramps on Monday, November 9, through Friday, November 13, from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, for guide rail replacement.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Work on this project will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, special signage and relevant training.

Under this two-year improvement project, PennDOT's contractor will mill, overlay and rehabilitate existing U.S. 422 pavement; perform bridge deck repairs, concrete and joint patching, sealing and drainage improvements; install new guide rail and rumble strips; and repair or replace damaged traffic signs along the corridor.

H & K Group Inc. of Skippack, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the $19.1 million project which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. The entire project is expected to be completed in summer 2021. For information, visit www.422improvements.com.

I-95 Single, Double Lane Closures Scheduled at Night Next Week for Construction in Delaware County

King of Prussia, PA – Interstate 95 motorists will encounter single and double lane closures in both directions next week at various locations between the U.S. 322 Interchange and the Delaware state line for various construction activities under a project to rehabilitate pavement and repair 15 structures on more than 11 miles of the interstate in Lower Chichester, Upper Chichester, Chester, Ridley and Tinicum townships, the City of Chester and Upland and Ridley boroughs, Delaware County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule is:

• Monday, November 9, and Tuesday, November 10, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM to 6:00 AM; a single lane closure will be in place on northbound and/or southbound I-95;
• Monday, November 9, and Tuesday, November 10, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a double lane closure will be in place on northbound and/or southbound I-95;
• Wednesday, November 11, through Friday, November 13, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, a single lane closure will be in place on northbound and/or southbound I-95; and
• Wednesday, November 11, through Friday, November 13, from 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM the following morning, a double lane closure will be in place on northbound and/or southbound I-95.

I-95 motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because significant backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Work on this project will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, special signage and relevant training.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will mill, overlay and rehabilitate the existing concrete pavement including 41 ramps; perform minor structural repairs to 15 of the 33 bridges located in the project limits; repair sections of median barrier; upgrade guide rail; install new pavement markings, delineators and rumble strips; repair and clean existing inlets and pipes; and replace damaged or missing traffic signs. The Pennsylvania Welcome Center just north of the Delaware state line also will be improved with concrete base repairs and new parking stripes, pavement markings and signs.

Allan A. Myers, Inc. of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the $68.4 million project which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. The entire project is expected to be completed in late 2023.

I-76 West to Close at Night Next Week, Next Weekend for Viaduct Repairs in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Westbound Interstate 76 will be closed periodically at night next week and continuously next weekend, and eastbound I-76 will be reduced to a single lane periodically at night next week and continuously next weekend for construction on two viaduct projects between 30th Street and University Avenue in Center City Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

In addition, westbound I-76 remains reduced to one lane around-the-clock between University Avenue and 30th Street. While the eastbound and westbound on- and off- ramps at South Street remain closed for construction of a new I-76 median barrier, the westbound off-ramp and the eastbound on-ramp at South Street are expected to reopen by Monday, November 16. Motorists normally using the South Street ramps will follow posted detour signs.

Weather permitting, the additional I-76 lane restrictions and locations for next week are:

• Sunday, November 8, through Thursday, November 12, periodically from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, eastbound I-76 will be reduced to one lane between 30th Street and University Avenue for median barrier construction;
• Monday, November 9, through Friday, November 13, periodically from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, westbound I-76 will be closed between 30th Street and Interstate 676, or the ramp from westbound I-76 to 30th Street will be closed, for construction on retaining wall between the river and the expressway;
• From 12:00 Noon Friday, November 13, to 5:00 AM Monday, November 16, westbound I-76 will be closed between the University Avenue and 30th Street interchanges for median construction; and
• From 12:00 Noon Friday, November 13, to 5:00 AM Monday, November 16, eastbound I-76 will be reduced to one lane between the 30th Street and University Avenue interchanges for median construction.

When westbound I-76 is closed at night next week, traffic will be directed to exit at 30th Street and follow Schuylkill Avenue to the ramp back to westbound I-76 at Market Street. When the westbound ramp to 30th Street is closed, motorists will be detoured to I-676 east, exit at 23rd Street, turn right on 23rd Street, then turn right on JFK Boulevard to 30th Street.

When westbound I-76 is closed next weekend, through motorists coming from New Jersey will be directed to go north on Interstate 95, then west on I-676 to access westbound I-76. Westbound local motorists will exit at University Avenue and follow the posted detours to the ramp to I-76 west.

Drivers are advised to use alternate routes or allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because significant backups and delays will occur during all of the scheduled activities. Westbound I-76 through motorists in New Jersey should take Interstate 676 west back to westbound I-76 or take Interstate 95 north to I-676 west back to westbound I-76.

Work on this project will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, special signing, and relevant training.

PennDOT is repairing, resurfacing and replacing the median barrier on the I-76 viaduct under a $40 million contract. More information is available at www.i76viaduct.com.

Repairs to the Schuylkill Avenue viaduct are part of PennDOT's $103.6 million project to rehabilitate the Chestnut Street bridge over the Schuylkill River and eight other nearby structures, including those carrying Schuylkill Avenue over I-76 between Walnut Street and Market Street.
