Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike), Route 352 (Middletown Road) Restricted for Resurfacing Operations in Chester, Delaware Counties

King of Prussia, PA – Motorists will encounter lane restrictions on Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike) and Route 352 (Middletown Road) in Chester and Delaware counties for resurfacing operations, as a part of several projects to repair and resurface more than 200 miles of state highways across the five-county Philadelphia region, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedules and locations are:

• Monday, December 13, through Friday, December 17, from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, a lane closure is scheduled on Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike) between Route 10 (Limestone Road) and Fallowfield Road in West Fallowfield Township, Chester County for paving operations; and
• Tuesday, December 14, through Friday December 17, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a lane closure is scheduled on Route 352 (Middletown Road) between Van Leer Avenue and Route 926 (Street Road) in Middletown, Edgmont and Thornbury townships in Delaware County for base repair operations.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under these improvement projects, PennDOT is milling the existing roadway surface and repaving the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.

I-95, U.S. 1 Restricted for Bridge Inspections in Philadelphia, Bucks Counties

King of Prussia PA – Motorists will encounter lane restrictions on Interstate 95 and U.S. 1 in Philadelphia and Bucks counties for bridge inspections, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedules and locations are:

• Monday, December 13, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, a left lane closure is scheduled on northbound I-95 between the Allegheny Avenue/Castor Avenue and the Betsy Ross Bridge/Aramingo Avenue interchanges in Philadelphia;
• Monday, December 13, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, a moving right lane closure is scheduled on northbound U.S. 1 between the Rockhill Drive and the Route 213 (Maple Avenue) interchanges in Bensalem and Middletown townships, Bucks County;
• Monday, December 13, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, a moving right lane closure is scheduled on southbound U.S. 1 between the Rockhill Drive and the Route 213 (Maple Avenue) interchanges in Bensalem and Middletown townships, Bucks County; and
• Wednesday, December 15, and Thursday, December 16, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a right lane closure is scheduled on southbound I-95 between the Betsy Ross Bridge/Aramingo Avenue and the Interstate 676 (Vine Street Expressway) interchanges in Philadelphia.

 Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

The inspections are part of PennDOT's program to inspect bridges and signs at least once every two years. The inspections ensure the safety and overall condition of the structures.

I-95 South Lane, Ramp Restrictions Next Week for Construction at Girard Avenue Interchange in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA - Lane and ramp restrictions are scheduled next week on southbound Interstate 95 at the Girard Avenue Interchange in Philadelphia for various construction activities, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The schedule and locations are:

• Wednesday, December 15, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the right lane on southbound I-95 will be closed from the off-ramp at Girard Avenue to Interstate 676 for line striping; and
• Wednesday, December 15, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and Friday, December 17, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, the on-ramp to southbound I-95 from Aramingo Avenue will be closed and detoured for construction. Motorists heading for southbound I-95 will be detoured south on Aramingo Avenue and south on Delaware Avenue to Callowhill Street, 2nd Street and the ramp to I-95 south at Market Street.
  

In addition, on Tuesday, December 14, from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Cumberland Street will be closed between Salmon and Richmond streets for milling and paving under I-95 at the north end of the Girard Avenue Interchange.

The construction activities next week are part of the $315.7 million project currently underway through 2023 to reconstruct southbound I-95 between the Allegheny Avenue and Girard Avenue interchanges.

King of Prussia, PA – Little Washington Road is scheduled to close between Route 282 (Creek Road) and Grandview Road in East Brandywine Township, Chester County, on Monday December 13, through Friday, December 17, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for tree removal, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

During the closure, motorists will be directed to use Route 282 (Creek Road), Corner Ketch Road, Hopewell Road and Dilworth Road. Local access will be maintained up to the work zone.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays may occur.

U.S. 422 Lane Closure Next Week for Construction in Lower Pottsgrove Township

King of Prussia, PA – Eastbound and westbound U.S. 422 motorists will encounter a single lane closure between the Armand Hammer Boulevard and Sanatoga interchanges on Monday, December 13, through Friday, December 17, for roadway reconstruction under a project to replace the structures that carry Park Road and Pleasantview Road over the expressway in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule is:

• Eastbound U.S. 422 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 AM the following morning; and
• Westbound U.S. 422 from 7:00 PM to 2:00 PM the following afternoon.
  

U.S. 422 motorists are advised to use an allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

The replacement of the Pleasantview Road and Park Road bridges over U.S. 422 is an advance contract prior to starting the project to reconstruct U.S. 422 between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road.

H&K Group, Inc. of Skippack, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the $7.1 million project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. The entire project is expected to finish in late 2022.

U.S. 1, Street Road (Route 132) Periodic Nighttime Lane Closures, Traffic Stoppages Next Week for Construction in Bucks County

King of Prussia, PA - Periodic northbound and southbound single lane closures and 15-minute traffic stoppages may be in place on U.S. 1 in Bucks County on Monday, December 13, through Thursday, December 16, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM for construction activities between the Pennsylvania Turnpike Interchange in Bensalem Township and the Penndel/Business U.S.1 Interchange in Middletown Township, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

During the periodic 15-minute traffic stoppages on U.S.1, Bristol Road also will be closed temporarily between Neshaminy Boulevard and Old Lincoln Highway. The traffic stoppages and closures are required as crews conduct controlled blasting operations to remove rock from the embankments along U.S. 1 where widening is taking place.

In addition, periodic lane restrictions also may be in place on Sunday, December 12, through Friday, December 17, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning for construction on eastbound and/or westbound Street Road (Route 132) between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way in Bensalem Township.

Motorists should allow extra time for travel through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Crews are reconstructing and widening almost three miles of roadway, improving the interchanges, and constructing several new bridges — including new structures over the Neshaminy Creek and over rail lines near the Penndel exit — under two contracts (RC1, RC2) to rebuild, widen and improve U.S.1 in Bucks County.

JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA, is the general contractor on the $110.8 million Section RC2 project that is scheduled be completed in mid-2026. Alan Myers Construction, of Worcester, PA, is the general contractor on the $95 million Section RC1 project that is expected to be completed in mid-2022.

Sections RC1 and RC2 are two of the three construction contracts to rebuild and widen U.S. 1; replace aging bridges; and install safety enhancements along a four-mile section of the expressway from just north of Philadelphia to just north of Route 413 (Pine Street) in Middletown Township and Langhorne Borough.

U.S. 1 (City Avenue/Roosevelt Expressway) Lane Closures at Night Next Week for Construction in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA - A single lane closure will be in place on northbound U.S. 1 (City Avenue) between Monument Road and Interstate 76 in Philadelphia on Monday, December 13, through Wednesday, December 15, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for electronic message sign installation, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

If weather forces a cancellation of any of the scheduled activities, the work and related lane closure may be rescheduled to Thursday night, December 16, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning.

In addition, lane closures and traffic slowdowns may occur on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) in both directions next week for construction on the Wayne Junction Viaduct over SEPTA tracks and the Nicetown neighborhood in North Philadelphia.

The U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) restrictions may occur: 

• Southbound, Monday, December 13, through Friday, December 17, periodically from 6:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning; and
• Northbound, Monday, December 13, through Friday, December 17, periodically from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning.
  

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Current work to rehabilitate and re-deck the southbound outer lane and shoulder of the mile-long viaduct and repair the Fox Street overpass will continue until spring 2022 before construction shifts to the northbound side of the structure.

The project, which is expected to be completed in spring 2024, also includes installation of electronic message signs and other Intelligent Transportation System components on I-76 and other regional arteries.

South State, Inc. of Bridgeton, N.J. is the general contractor on the $90.7 million project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
