U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) Lane Closures at Night for Two Months for Overhead Sign Construction in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA -- Northbound and southbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) will be reduced from three lanes-to-two at two separate locations between Interstate 76 and the Wissahickon Avenue/Hunting Park Avenue Exit in Philadelphia for approximately two months beginning Monday, April 4, for overhead sign demolition and installation, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Crews will work on Monday, April 4, through Thursday, April 7, to establish two additional work areas on the northbound side and two additional work areas on the southbound side. Motorists will encounter southbound lane restrictions each night from 6:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, and northbound lane restrictions from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning while workers set construction barriers and paint new lane markings to create protected work areas in both direction at each sign location.

The sign work is part of the $92.4 million project to rehabilitate U.S.1 (Roosevelt Expressway) Wayne Junction Viaduct over SEPTA tracks and the Nicetown Neighborhood.

The new, temporary work zones will be situated south of the existing work zone that is in place for the viaduct rehabilitation, where Stage 4 construction is currently underway on the northbound inner lane of the mile-long structure until mid-2022.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays are expected.  Westbound I-76 motorists heading for northbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) should remain alert for slow or stopped traffic approaching the work area.

Plymouth Road to Close at U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) Beginning Next Week for Roadway Construction in Whitpain Township

King of Prussia, PA – Plymouth Road will be closed and detoured approaching U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) beginning Monday, April 4, for construction activities under a project to widen and reconstruct nearly three miles of U.S. 202 from south of Morris Road to Hancock Road in Whitpain and Lower Gwynedd townships, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. The closure will be in place 24/7 through Monday, April 18.

During the closure, Plymouth Road motorists will be directed to use U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike), Sumneytown Pike and Evans Road. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.

Motorists are advised to allow more time for travel near the work area because backups and slowdowns may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this U.S. 202 project (Section 65S), PennDOT will perform the following roadway and bridge improvements:

• Reconstruct and widen U.S. 202 from two lanes to five lanes with a center turn lane from Morris Road to Grasshopper Lane and from Schoolhouse Lane to Swedesford Road;
• Widen U.S. 202 from two lanes to four lanes with a mountable median curb from the Wissahickon Creek crossing to south of Schoolhouse Lane;
• Install five-foot bicycle lanes in both directions in the five-lane sections;
• Reconstruct the bridge over the Wissahickon Creek;
• Construct two sound walls and three retaining walls;
• Install new signals, signing and pavement markings;
• Perform drainage improvements;
• Integrate Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to improve traffic flow;
• Reconstruct a wetland channel adjacent to Wissahickon Creek; and
• Reconstruct a stone wall adjacent to the Gwynedd Friends Meetinghouse property.
  

James D. Morrissey, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the Section 65S project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. Construction on the project is expected to finish in late 2024.

I-95 Among State Highways Restricted Next Week for Bridge Inspections in Philadelphia, Montgomery Counties

King of Prussia PA – Interstate 95 is among several state highways restricted next week in Philadelphia and Montgomery counties for bridge inspections, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedules and locations are:

• Monday, March 28, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, alternating lane closures are scheduled in both directions on I-95 between the Interstate 76/Walt Whitman Bridge and the Columbus Boulevard interchanges in Philadelphia;
• Monday, March 28, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, periodic right lane closures are scheduled in both directions on I-95 between the Cottman Avenue and the Academy Road interchanges in Philadelphia;
• Tuesday, March 29, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a right lane closure is scheduled on the westbound Interstate 76 ramp to U.S. 422 in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County;
• Tuesday, March 29, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, alternating lane closures are scheduled on northbound U.S. 202 between the U.S. 422 and the I-76 interchanges in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County;
• Tuesday March 29, and Wednesday, March 30, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a right lane closure is scheduled on northbound I-95 between the I-76/Valley Forge and the Route 611 (Broad Street) interchanges in Philadelphia;
• Tuesday, March 29, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, a right lane closure is scheduled on northbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) between the I-76 and the Wissahickon Avenue interchanges in Philadelphia;
• Tuesday, March 29, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, a right lane closure is scheduled on southbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) between the Fox Street and the Ridge Avenue interchanges in Philadelphia;
• Wednesday, March 30, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, alternating right lane closures are scheduled in both directions on U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) between the Route 611 (Broad Street) and the Wingohocken Street interchanges in Philadelphia;
• Thursday, March 31, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, a left lane closure is scheduled on northbound I-95 at the Interstate 676 Interchange in Philadelphia;
• Thursday, March 31, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, a left lane closure is scheduled on the eastbound I-676 ramp to southbound I-95 in Philadelphia;
• Thursday, March 31, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, a right lane closure is scheduled on the Columbus Boulevard on ramp to northbound I-95 in Philadelphia;
• Thursday, March 31, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, alternating lane closures are scheduled on westbound I-76 at the U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) Interchange in Philadelphia; and
• Friday, April 1, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a periodic right lane closure is scheduled in both directions on Cheltenham Avenue between Broad Street and 70th Street in Philadelphia.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

The inspections are part of PennDOT's program to inspect bridges at least once every two years. The inspections ensure the safety and overall condition of the structures.

Route 372 (Lower Valley Road) Lane Closure Next Week for Pavement Repair in Atglen Borough, West Sadsbury Township

King of Prussia, PA – Route 372 (Lower Valley Road) motorists will encounter a lane closure with flagging next week approaching the Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike) intersection on Monday, March 28, through Friday, April 1, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for pavement patching and repair under a project to replace the bridge that carries Route 372 (Lower Valley Road) over Officers Run in Atglen Borough and West Sadsbury Township, Chester County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur due to these operations. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Originally built in 1937, the existing two-span reinforced concrete slab bridge is listed in poor condition, showing extensive cracking and other damage. The new Route 372 (Lower Valley Road) structure will be a single-span prestressed concrete composite adjacent box beam bridge which includes approach roadway construction.

The purpose of this project is to provide a long-term transportation facility that is structurally sound, capable of handling the volume of expected traffic along this state highway and to ensure a safe and efficient crossing along a locally important network.

This project also includes the realignment and restriping of the Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike) painted median and replacement of the traffic signal at the Route 372 (Lower Valley Road) and Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike) intersection. Other project improvements include pipe culvert installation, aerial and underground gas utility relocations and wetland enhancements.

During construction, a stream crossing and temporary roadway with a reduced speed of 25 mph will be constructed adjacent to the existing bridge to accommodate temporary two-way traffic.

Additionally, short-term lane closures and traffic signal adjustments at the intersection of Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike) and Route 372 (Lower Valley Road) will also be utilized during construction.

Mumford and Miller Concrete, Inc., of Middletown, Delaware is the general contractor on the $2.9 million project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. The entire project is scheduled to finish in spring 2023.

Several State Highways Restricted Next Week for Safety Improvements in Bucks, Montgomery, and Delaware Counties

King of Prussia, PA – Motorists on several state highways will experience intermittent lane closures in Bucks, Montgomery, and Delaware counties on Monday, March 28, through Friday, April 1, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for line striping, under a project to install safety enhancements to improve travel and reduce high-speed crashes across the five-county Philadelphia region, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work locations are:

• The Route 63 (Woodhaven Road) and Bristol Pike Interchange in Bensalem Township, Bucks County;
• The Interstate 295 and Route 322 (Yardley Newtown Road) Interchange in Lower Makefield Township, Bucks County;
• The U.S. 13 and Tyburn Road Interchange in Falls Township, Bucks County;
• The U.S. 1 and Oxford Valley Road Interchange in Falls Township, Bucks County;
• The U.S. 13 and U.S. 1 Interchange in Falls Township, Bucks County;
• Route 663 (John Fries Highway) between Route 29 (Main Street) and the Interstate 476 (PA Turnpike/Northeast Extension) Interchange in Milford and Upper Hanover townships and Pennsburg Borough in Bucks and Montgomery counties; and
• Route 491 (Naamans Creek Road) between U.S. 202 (Wilmington-West Chester Pike) and the Delaware State line in Concord, Bethel and Upper Chichester townships, Delaware County.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Kuharchik Construction, INC. of Exeter, is the general contractor on this $5,996,57 project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in spring 2023.

King of Prussia, PA – U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) is among several state highways in Chester, Bucks, and Montgomery counties restricted for resurfacing operations as part of several projects to repair and resurface more than 200 miles of state highway across the five-county Philadelphia region, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedules and locations are:

• Monday, March 28, though Friday, April 1, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, lane closures are scheduled in both directions on U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) between Route 52 (Kennett Pike) and the Delaware County line in Kennett and Pennsbury townships, Chester County, for milling and paving operations;
• Sunday, March 27, through Thursday, March 31, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on High Street between Evergreen Road and Pleasant View Road in Lower Pottsgrove and Limerick townships, Montgomery County for milling operations; and
• Monday, March 28, through late April, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, alternating lane closures are scheduled in both directions on Bethlehem Pike between (Route 563) Ridge Road and Route 309 (Sellersville Bypass) in West Rockhill Township, Bucks County, for milling and paving operations.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under these improvement projects, PennDOT is milling the existing roadway surface and repaving the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.

King of Prussia, PA – Alternating lane closures are scheduled in both directions on Interstate 95, Interstate 76, and Interstate 476 in Philadelphia, Delaware, and Montgomery counties on Monday, March 28, through Friday, April 1, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, for guide rail operations, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work locations are:

• I-95 between the Route 291 and the I-76/Walt Whitman Bridge interchanges in Tinicum Township, Delaware County and Philadelphia;
• I-76 between the Interstate 276 and the southbound U.S. 1 (City Avenue) interchanges in Upper Merion and Lower Merion townships, Montgomery County; and
• I-476 between the Media/Swarthmore and the Interstate 276 interchanges in Nether Providence, Springfield, Marple, Haverford, Radnor, Lower Merion, Plymouth townships and West Conshohocken Borough in Delaware and Montgomery counties.
