I-95 Weeknight Lane Closures Scheduled for Bridge Repair in South Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA -- Interstate 95 motorists will encounter lane closures in both directions between Pattison Avenue and South Street in Philadelphia beginning Monday, April 4, for bridge rehabilitation under a project to perform high-priority repairs on 13 structures on I-95, Interstate 295 and Interstate 476 in Philadelphia, Bucks and Delaware counties, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. Weather permitting, the lane closures will be in place weeknights from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning through early May.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur.

Repairs to the 13 structures include replacing rocker bearings, frozen sliding plate bearings and deck expansion joints; cleaning and painting steel beams; repairing substructure concrete; and reconstructing bearing pedestals.

In addition, the project includes the replacement of 24 high mast light poles along the I-95 corridor in Philadelphia and Delaware counties.

Driscoll Construction Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the $39.4 million project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. Construction is expected to finish in spring 2024.

PECO to Close Cedar Road for Utility Improvement in Montgomery County

King of Prussia, PA – PECO is planning to close Cedar Road between Jenkintown Road and Fox Chase Road in Abington and Jenkintown townships, Montgomery County, beginning Monday, April 11, for gas main installation, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. The closure will be in place Mondays through Fridays and weekends if needed from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM through Friday, October 28.

During the closure, motorists will be directed to use Route 73 (Township Line Road), Route 611 (York Road), Susquehanna Road, and Route 232 (Huntingdon Pike). Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. 

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

PECO will complete this project under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.

King of Prussia, PA – A daytime single lane closure will be in place next week on northbound and southbound U.S. 1 just south of the Route 472 (Quarryville/Oxford) Interchange in East Nottingham Township, Chester County, on Monday, April 4, through Thursday, April 7, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for traffic counter installation, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

The work is part of a PennDOT project to install or repair traffic monitoring sites statewide.

Kuharchik Construction Inc., of Exeter, Pa. is the general contractor on the $760,640 project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds.

I-95 Lane Closures at Night Next Week for Median Barrier Repair, Concrete Patching in Delaware County

King of Prussia, PA – Motorists traveling Interstate 95 in Delaware County will encounter single and double lane closures at night next week between the Highland Avenue (Exit 3) and Ridley Park (Exit 8) interchanges for median barrier repair, concrete patching and other construction activities under a project to rehabilitate pavement and repair 15 structures on more than 11 miles of the interstate in Lower Chichester, Upper Chichester, Chester, Ridley and Tinicum townships, the City of Chester and Upland and Ridley Park boroughs, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule is:

• Monday, April 4, through Thursday, April 7, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and from 5:00 AM to 6:00 AM, a single lane closure will be in place in sections on northbound and southbound I-95;
• Monday, April 4, through Thursday, April 7, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a double lane closure will be in place in sections on northbound and southbound I-95; and
• Friday, April 8, and Saturday, April 9, from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM the following morning, single and double lane closures will be in place in sections on northbound and southbound I-95.
  

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will mill, overlay and rehabilitate the existing concrete pavement including 41 ramps; perform minor structural repairs to 15 of the 33 bridges located in the project limits; repair sections of median barrier; upgrade guide rail; install new pavement markings, delineators and rumble strips; repair and clean existing inlets and pipes; and replace damaged or missing traffic signs. The Pennsylvania Welcome Center just north of the Delaware state line also will be improved with concrete base repairs and new parking stripes, pavement markings and signs.
 

Allan A. Myers, Inc. of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the $73 million project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. The entire project is expected to be completed in summer 2024.

Aqua Pennsylvania to Close Paxon Hollow Road for Utility Improvement in Marple Township

King of Prussia, PA – Aqua Pennsylvania is planning to close Paxon Hollow Road from Jamestown Road to just west of Worthington Drive in Marple Township, Delaware County, beginning Monday, April 4, for water main installation, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. The closure will be in place weekdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM through Friday, April 29.

During the closure, Paxon Hollow Road motorists will be directed to use Route 320 (Sproul Road), Cedar Grove Road, Route 252 (Newtown Street Road), and Palmers Mill Road. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent. 

Aqua Pennsylvania will complete this project under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.

Swamp Creek Road Reopens Following Bridge Rehabilitation in Marlborough Township

King of Prussia, PA – Swamp Creek Road has reopened between Geryville Pike and Payne Road in Marlborough Township, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today, following the rehabilitation of the bridge carrying Swamp Creek Road over Unami Creek.

PennDOT's contractor repaired the structure's foundation at the pier and near abutment to prevent future scouring. The three-span stone masonry arch bridge was closed in late December 2021 after undermining of the bridge pier was discovered during an underwater bridge inspection.

Before the recent December closure, the Swamp Creek Road bridge was initially closed in September 2021 to repair the approach roadway due to damaged caused by Tropical Storm Ida. Approximately 203 vehicles travel across the 130-year-old, 89-foot-long, 20-foot-wide structure daily.
