U.S. 1 Lane Closures, Traffic Stoppages Planned at Night Next Week for Construction in Bucks County

King of Prussia, PA – Lane restrictions and periodic traffic stoppages will be in place at night next week on U.S. 1 between the Street Road (Route 132) and Route 413 interchanges in Bensalem and Middletown townships, Bucks County, for various construction activities, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedules and locations are:

• Monday, April 11, from 3:00 AM to 5:00 AM, periodic stoppages of up to 15 minutes will take place on northbound and southbound U.S. 1 between the Street Road and Neshaminy exits for removal of an overhead sign;
• Monday, April 11, through Thursday, April 14, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, alternating single lane closures will be in place on northbound and southbound U.S. 1 between the Neshaminy and Penndel exits for painting at the new Bristol Road overpass; and
• Monday, April 11, through Thursday, April 14, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, periodic single lane closures will be in place on northbound and southbound U.S. 1 between the Street Road (Route 132) and Route 413 exits for median construction. The periodic lane closures in these areas will be coordinated with the continuous lane closures at Bristol Road.
  

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas. All scheduled activities are weather dependent. 

Crews are reconstructing and widening almost three miles of U.S. 1, improving the interchanges, and constructing several new bridges — including new structures over the Neshaminy Creek and over rail lines near the Penndel exit— under two contracts (RC1, RC2) to rebuild, widen and improve U.S.1 in Bucks County.

JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA, is the general contractor on the $111.5 million Section RC2 project that is scheduled be completed in mid-2026. Alan Myers Construction, of Worcester, PA, is the general contractor on the $95 million Section RC1 project that is expected to be completed in mid-2022.

Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission to Restrict I-295 Near Yardley/Newtown Interchange for Construction in Bucks County

King of Prussia, PA – The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DRJTBC) is planning lane closures on Interstate 295 between the Route 332 (Yardley-Newtown Road) Interchange and the New Jersey state line in Lower Makefield Township, Bucks County, on Monday, April 11, through Friday, April 15, for various construction activities, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. 

The lane closures are scheduled on eastbound I-295 from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM and westbound I-295 from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM. 

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission will complete this project under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.

I-76 East or West to Close at Night Next Week for Viaduct Construction in Center City Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Alternating closures of either eastbound or westbound Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in the vicinity of 30th Street will occur on Monday, April 11, through Thursday, April 14, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for overhead viaduct construction in Center City Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

When eastbound I-76 is closed between 30th Street and South Street, traffic will be directed to use the off-ramp at 30th Street, turn left on Chestnut Street, then turn right on Schuylkill Avenue to the ramp back to eastbound I-76 at Walnut Street.

When westbound I-76 is closed between 30th Street and Interstate 676, I-76 motorists will exit at 30th Street and follow Schuylkill Avenue to the ramp back to westbound I-76 at Market Street.

Drivers are advised to use alternate routes or allow extra time when traveling through the work area because significant backups and delays will occur. All operations are weather dependent. 

The work is part of PennDOT's substantially completed $105.1 million project to rehabilitate the Chestnut Street bridge over the Schuylkill River — which reopened on Saturday, March 19 — and eight other nearby structures, including the viaducts carrying Schuylkill Avenue over I-76 between Walnut Street and Market Street.

Buckley & Company Inc., of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. The entire project is scheduled to finish this summer.

Betsy Ross Bridge, Aramingo Avenue Ramp to I-95 South to Close Beginning April 11 for Reconstruction in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will fully close the ramp to southbound Interstate 95 at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange and implement a new detour beginning Monday, April 11, through mid-2023, that sends traffic from the Bridge or from Aramingo Avenue to the adjacent Bridge Street Interchange to access southbound I-95 in the Frankford section of Philadelphia.

The new detour will direct motorists from the Betsy Ross Bridge to continue through the interchange area to south on Aramingo Avenue, then west on the new, partially-opened Adams Avenue Connector to a right turn on Torresdale Avenue and south on Harbison Avenue/Aramingo Avenue to access the ramp to southbound I-95 at the Bridge Street Interchange. 

Aramingo Avenue motorists heading for southbound I-95 at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange will turn onto the Adams Avenue Connector and follow the same detour to southbound I-95.

The westbound Adams Avenue Connector will remain closed to traffic between Ashland Street and Aramingo Avenue.

Bridge traffic heading to northbound I-95 will continue to utilize the same detour through the interchange that has been in place since mid-2021. 

With the new detour in place, PennDOT's contractor will close and demolish the remainder of the deteriorated ramp to southbound I-95 and allow its reconstruction as part of the connecting ramp from the Bridge to remain on schedule for completion and reopening in mid-2023.  

Motorists entering Pennsylvania via the Betsy Ross Bridge are advised to remain alert for slowing traffic as drivers become acclimated to the new detour.

Work at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange is part of the $93.6 million BR2 project to reconstruct and improve the ramps between the bridge, Aramingo Avenue and I-95.

King of Prussia PA – Interstate 95, Interstate 76, and Interstate 476 are among several state highways restricted next week in Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties for construction activities, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedules and locations are:

Philadelphia

• Monday, April 4, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, alternating lane closures are scheduled on 34^th Street between Tasker Street and Wharton Street for bridge inspection;
• Monday, April 4, though Friday, April 8, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, alternating lane closure are scheduled in both directions on I-95 between the Route 291 and the I-76/Walt Whitman Bridge interchanges in Tinicum Township, Delaware County and Philadelphia for guide rail operations;
• Monday, April 4, though late June, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, periodic lane closures are scheduled on Academy Road between the I-95 Interchange and Knights Road for guide rail operations;
• Monday, April 4, though late June, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, periodic lane closures are scheduled on Route 63 (Woodhaven Road) between the U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard) Interchange and the Bucks County line for guide rail operations;

• Thursday, April 7, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, alternating lane closures are scheduled on westbound I-76 at the northbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) Interchange for bridge inspection; and
• Friday, April 8, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, right lane closures are scheduled in both directions on I-76 between the northbound U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) and the Montgomery Drive interchanges for bridge inspection.

• Monday, April 4, through Friday, April 8, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, intermittent lane closures are scheduled at the Interstate 295 and Route 322 (Yardley Newtown Road) Interchange in Lower Makefield Township, for line striping and rumble strip installation;
• Monday, April 4, through Friday, April 8, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, intermittent lane closures are scheduled at the U.S. 13 and Tyburn Road Interchange in Falls Township, for line striping and rumble strip installation;
• Monday, April 4, through Friday, April 8, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, intermittent lane closures are scheduled at the U.S. 13 and U.S. 1 Interchange in Falls Township, for line striping and rumble strip installation;

• Monday, April 4, though Friday, April 8, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, alternating lane closures are schedules in both directions on I-76 between the Interstate 276 and the southbound U.S. 1 (City Avenue) interchanges in Upper Merion and Lower Merion townships for guide rail operations; and
• Monday, April 4, though Friday, April 8, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, intermittent lane closures are scheduled on Route 663 (John Fries Highway) between Route 29 (Main Street) and the Interstate 476 (PA Turnpike/Northeast Extension) Interchange in Milford and Upper Hanover townships and Pennsburg Borough in Bucks and Montgomery counties for line striping and rumble strip installation.

 Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

King of Prussia, PA – U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) is among several state highways in Chester, Montgomery, and Bucks counties restricted for resurfacing operations as part of several projects to repair and resurface more than 200 miles of state highway across the five-county Philadelphia region, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedules and locations are:

• Monday, April 1, though Friday, April 8, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, lane closures are scheduled in both directions on U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) between Route 52 (Kennett Pike) and the Delaware County line in Kennett and Pennsbury townships, Chester County, for milling and paving operations;
• Sunday, April 3, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on High Street between Evergreen Road and Pleasant View Road in Lower Pottsgrove and Limerick townships, Montgomery County, for paving operations; and
• Monday, April 4, though Friday, April 22, weekdays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a single lane closure with flagging is scheduled on U.S. 202 (Lower York Road/Buckingham Road) between Route 413 (Durham Road) and Bridge Street in Solebury and Buckingham townships, Bucks County, for milling and paving operations.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under these improvement projects, PennDOT is milling the existing roadway surface and repaving the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.

King of Prussia, PA – PennDOT maintenance and contractor crews will be working on more than 55 state highways next week to repair deteriorated pavement across the Philadelphia region. The roadways include:

Bucks County

• U.S. 202, Doylestown Township and Doylestown Borough;
• Route 309, Hilltown, Milford, West Rockhill, Richland, and Springfield townships;
• Route 152, Perkasie Borough and Hilltown Township;
• Route 611 and ramps, Doylestown Borough and Plumstead, Tinicum, Nockamixon, and Bedminster townships;

• Bath Road, Bristol Township;

• U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) and ramps;
• U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Boulevard)  and outer lanes;
• U.S. 13 (Hunting Park Avenue);
• Route 3 (Walnut Street);
• Route 73 (Cottman Avenue);
• Route 291;
• Route 611 (Broad Street);
• Aramingo Avenue;
• Rhawn Street;
• Castor Avenue;
• Girard Avenue;
• Rising Sun Avenue; and
• Wissahickon Avenue.

Crews will restrict travel lanes on these state highways to patch areas of deteriorating pavement. Motorists are advised to be alert of this moving operation and to expect intermittent lane closures and possible slowdowns when driving near work crews. All activities are weather dependent.

As of January 1, 2022, PennDOT has used more than 2,070 tons of asphalt to repair potholes across the five-county Philadelphia region.

PennDOT would also like to remind motorists that potholes and other roadway concerns on state roads can be reported by calling 1-800-FIX-ROAD or visiting www.penndot.pa.gov and clicking on "Submit A Roadway Concern."

Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com or downloading the 511PA mobile application. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.
