I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) Among State Highways Restricted Next Week for Resurfacing in Philadelphia, Chester, Montgomery Counties

King of Prussia, PA – Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) is among several state highways in Philadelphia, Chester and Montgomery counties restricted for resurfacing operations as part of several projects to repair and resurface more than 200 miles of state highway across the five-county Philadelphia region, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedules and locations are:

Philadelphia

• Monday, April 18, through Wednesday, April 20, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, alternating lane closures are scheduled on eastbound I-76 at the University Avenue Interchange for resurfacing operations.

Chester County

• Monday, April 18, though Friday, April 22, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, lane closures are scheduled on Route 896 (New London Road/Newark Road) between Gypsy Hill Road and Hutchinson Road in Penn, New London, and Franklin townships, for milling operations;
• Monday, April 18, though Friday, April 22, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, lane closures are scheduled in both directions on U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) between Route 52 (Kennett Pike) and the Delaware County line in Kennett and Pennsbury townships, for paving operations;
• Monday, April 18, through Friday, April 22, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, a lane closure is scheduled on Appleton Road between Route 896 (New London Road) and the Maryland State line in Franklin Township, for milling and paving operations; and
• Tuesday, April 19, through Friday, April 22, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, a lane closure is scheduled on Chesterville Road/Landenberg Road/Newark Road/Sunny Dell Road between Route 841 (Wickerton Road) and Route 41 (Gap Newport Pike) in New Garden, London Britain, and Franklin townships for milling and paving operations.

Montgomery County

• Monday, April 18, through Friday, April 22, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane closure is scheduled on Ridge Pike/Main Street between Route 29 (Second Avenue) and Limerick Center Road in Trappe and Collegeville boroughs and Limerick Township, for milling and paving operations; and
• Tuesday, April 19, through Friday, April 22, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, a lane closure is scheduled on Ridge Pike/Main Street between Route 29 (Second Avenue) and Limerick Center Road in Trappe and Collegeville boroughs and Limerick Township, for casting adjustments.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because slowdowns will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under these improvement projects, PennDOT is milling the existing roadway surface and repaving the state highways with new asphalt. The new pavement will seal the roadways and provide motorists with a smoother riding surface.

U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) Lane Closures for Construction Work in Delaware, Chester Counties

King of Prussia, PA – U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) motorists will encounter lane closures in Chadds Ford and Concord townships, Delaware County, and Pennsbury Township, Chester County, for resurfacing operations and concrete patching under a project to repair and resurface approximately six miles of U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike), the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work locations and schedules are:

• Monday, April 18, through Friday, April 22, a 24/7 lane closure is scheduled in both directions on U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) between Sunny Ridge Lane and Creek Road in Chadds Ford Township, Delaware County and Pennsbury Township, Chester County, for concrete patching operations;
• Sunday, April 24, through Friday, May 6, from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, Sundays through Fridays, periodic lane closures are scheduled in both directions on U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) between Chadds Ford School Drive/Fairville Road and the U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike) interchange in Chadds Ford Township, Delaware County, for milling operations; and
• Sunday, April 24, through late May, a 24/7 lane closure is scheduled in both directions on U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) between Pole Cat Road and the U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) Interchange in Concord Township, Delaware County, for concrete patching operations.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur due to these operations. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will mill, overlay, and rehabilitate the existing pavement; perform concrete patching and concrete base repair as needed; construct new concrete curbed median; install new pavement markings, rumble strips, delineators, and signs; and upgrade guiderail and curb ramps.

Allan Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on the $13.7 million project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.

PennDOT Completes Route 663 (King Street) Bridge Replacement Project over Manatawny Creek in Pottstown Borough

King of Prussia, PA – The Route 663 (King Street) bridge over Manatawny Creek in Pottstown Borough, Montgomery County reopened to traffic today, completing the $4.2 million project to replace the 154-foot-long structure, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced.

PennDOT's contractor replaced the existing two span, non-composite pre-stressed concrete adjacent box beam bridge with a spread box beam bridge with new abutments and a new pier at a slightly skewed location to improve the alignment at the intersection with Manatawny Street. 

The new structure provides several safety improvements, including enhancements to roadside protection at the approaches to the new bridge barriers; wider 8-foot sidewalks on both sides of the bridge; and new ADA curb ramps at the intersection of Route 663 (King Street) and Manatawny Street. Decorative bridge lighting was also added to improve visibility.

Rylind Construction Company of Lewisberry, PA, was the general contractor on the project, which was financed with 100 percent state funds.

U.S. 1 Lane Closures Overnight Next Week for Construction in Bucks

King of Prussia, PA – Overnight lane restrictions are scheduled on U.S. 1 between Old Lincoln Highway in Bensalem Township and the Highland Avenue Exit in Middletown Township for construction activities in Bucks County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedules and locations are:

• Monday, April 18, through Thursday, April 21, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, alternating single lane closures are scheduled in both directions on U.S. 1 between the Old Lincoln Highway and the Neshaminy interchanges for paving, line painting, median construction, and a shift of southbound traffic onto the new southbound pavement; and 
• Monday, April 18, through Friday, April 22, from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, southbound U.S. 1 will be reduced to a single lane between the Neshaminy and Highland Avenue interchanges for beam setting for the new southbound U.S. 1 bridge over the Neshaminy Creek.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Crews are reconstructing and widening almost three miles of U.S. 1, improving the interchanges, and constructing several new bridges - including new structures over the Neshaminy Creek and over rail lines near the Penndel exit- under two contracts (RC1, RC2) to rebuild, widen and improve U.S.1 in Bucks County.

JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA, is the general contractor on the $111.5 million Section RC2 project that is scheduled be completed in mid-2026. Alan Myers Construction, of Worcester, PA, is the general contractor on the $95 million Section RC1 project that is expected to be completed in mid-2022.

I-76 to Close Overnight Next Week for Viaduct Construction in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Alternating lane closures are scheduled in both directions on Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway), in the vicinity of 30th Street, on Monday, April 18, through Thursday, April 21, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for overhead viaduct construction in Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

When eastbound I-76 is closed between 30th Street and South Street, traffic will be directed to use the off-ramp at 30th Street, turn left on Chestnut Street, then turn right on Schuylkill Avenue to the ramp back to eastbound I-76 at Walnut Street.

When westbound I-76 is closed between 30th Street and Interstate 676, I-76 motorists will exit at 30th Street and follow Schuylkill Avenue to the ramp back to westbound I-76 at Market Street.

Drivers are advised to use alternate routes or allow extra time when traveling through the work area because significant backups and delays will occur. All operations are weather dependent.

The work is part of PennDOT's substantially completed $105.1 million project to rehabilitate the Chestnut Street bridge over the Schuylkill River - which reopened on Saturday, March 19 - and eight other nearby structures, including the viaducts carrying Schuylkill Avenue over I-76 between Walnut Street and Market Street.

Buckley & Company Inc., of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. The entire project is scheduled to finish this summer.

Colonial Pipeline Company to Close Burnt Mill Road for Construction in Kennett Township, Chester County

King of Prussia, PA – Colonial Pipeline Company is planning to close Burnt Mill Road between Old Kennett Road and Norway Road in Kennett Township, Chester County, on Tuesday, April 26, through Wednesday, May 4, for pipeline construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.  

During the 24/7 closure, motorists will be directed to use Old Kennett Road, Bayard Road, Hillendale Road, Woodward Road, and Norway Road. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. 

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Colonial Pipeline Company will complete this project under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.

PennDOT Reopens Street Road Bridge in Lower Oxford Township

King of Prussia, PA – Street Road has reopened between Route 472 (Lancaster Avenue) and Scroggy Road in Lower Oxford Township, Chester County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today, following the bridge rehabilitation.

PennDOT's contractor repaired the curtain walls at the abutments and placed riprap, rocky material, to protect the structure from scour and erosion.

The Street Road bridge over Leech Run was built in 1924. The single-span reinforced concrete T-beam bridge is 39 feet long, 18 feet wide and carries approximately 325 vehicles a day.
