U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) Continuous Lane Closures Next Week for Construction in Concord, Chadds Ford, Pennsbury Townships

King of Prussia, PA – U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) motorists will encounter continuous lane closures next week and weekend on U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) for concrete patching and mountable curb installation under a project to repair and resurface approximately six miles of the highway in Chadds Ford and Concord townships, Delaware County, and Pennsbury Township, Chester County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule and locations are:

• From 9:00 PM Sunday, July 10, through 9:00 PM Friday, July 15, a single lane closure will be in place on northbound and southbound U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) between U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike) and Chadds Ford School Drive/Fairville Road for mountable curb installation; and
• From 9:00 PM Friday, July 15, through 9:00 PM Sunday, July 17, a single lane closure will be in place on northbound and southbound U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) between U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike) and U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) for concrete patching.
  

In addition, a section of Thornton Road between Concord Road and U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) remains closed for roadway construction through Friday, July 22.

During the closure, southbound U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) motorists will be allowed to turn right at Thornton Road, while northbound U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) motorists will be directed to turn around at Cheyney Road and use southbound U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) to turn right on Thornton Road. No left turns will be permitted onto Thornton Road from U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike).

Northbound Thornton Road motorists will be directed to use Concord Road and U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike), while southbound Thornton Road motorists will still have access to southbound U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike). Local access will be maintained for residents and businesses.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) improvement project, PennDOT's contractor will mill, overlay, and rehabilitate the existing pavement; perform concrete patching and concrete base repair as needed; construct new concrete curbed median; install new pavement markings, rumble strips, delineators, and signs; and upgrade guiderail and curb ramps.

Allan Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the $13.7 million project, which is financed with 80% federal and 20% state funds.

PennDOT to Host Job Fairs Next Week for Open Positions in Philadelphia Region

King of Prussia PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will host job fairs at its Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery County Maintenance facilities on Tuesday, July 12, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, in an effort to reach qualified candidates throughout the region to fill vacancies in all four counties.

Those interested in a career with PennDOT are encouraged to attend one of the job fair locations to learn about the following opportunities:

• Transportation Equipment Operator-A;
• Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee;
• Diesel Construction Equipment Mechanic;
• Diesel Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee; and
• Maintenance Repairman 2.

Positions are posted online at www.employment.pa.gov and applicants are encouraged to submit their application through the website whether they can attend or not attend the job fairs. Applicants may also view other positions on the website available in the Philadelphia region and statewide. 

If for any reason an applicant cannot complete an application on the website before the scheduled job fairs, staff with laptops will be available at all four job fairs to help interested participants navigate the electronic application system.

For positions that require a Commercial Driver's License, PennDOT will conduct on-the-spot interviews for CDL operators. Driving tests will also be administered the same day, if available. CDL operators should bring their current driver's license and medical examiner certificate to the job fair. Requirements for a CDL will be posted on the job description on the employment website. Please note, PennDOT will train an employee for a CDL if hired for the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee position.

Applicants do not have to live in the county for the job they are applying for and can attend any of the following job fair locations:

I-95 Lane Closures at Night Next Week for Paving, Bridge Repair in Delaware County

King of Prussia, PA – Single and double lane closures are scheduled at night next week on Interstate 95 in Delaware County between the U.S. 322/Commodore Barry Bridge (Exit 4) and Route 420 (Exit 9A/9B) interchanges for paving, bridge repair and other construction activities under a project to rehabilitate pavement and repair 15 structures on more than 11 miles of the interstate in Lower Chichester, Upper Chichester, Chester, Ridley and Tinicum townships, the City of Chester and Upland and Ridley Park boroughs, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule is:

• Sunday, July 10, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by double lane closures from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on sections of southbound I-95;
• Monday, July 11, through Thursday, July 14, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by double lane closures from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on sections of northbound and southbound I-95; and
• Friday, July 15, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, followed by double lane closures from 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM on sections of northbound and southbound I-95.
  

In addition, the ramps from northbound I-95 to Ridley Park (Exit 8) and Route 420 (Exit 9A/9B) will be closed and detoured on Sunday, July 10, through Friday, July 15, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning. Northbound I-95 motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour routes.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will mill, overlay and rehabilitate the existing concrete pavement including 41 ramps; perform minor structural repairs to 15 of the 33 bridges located in the project limits; repair sections of median barrier; upgrade guide rail; install new pavement markings, delineators and rumble strips; repair and clean existing inlets and pipes; and replace damaged or missing traffic signs. The Pennsylvania Welcome Center just north of the Delaware state line also will be improved with concrete base repairs and new parking stripes, pavement markings and signs.

Allan A. Myers, Inc. of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the $73 million project, which is financed with 80% federal and 20% state funds. The entire project is expected to be completed in Summer 2024.

I-95 South Lane Closures at Night Next Week Between Academy Road and Bridge Street for Construction in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Southbound Interstate 95 will be reduced from four lanes-to-two between the Academy Road and Bridge Street interchanges in Philadelphia, on Monday, July 11, through Wednesday, July 13, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for activities related to the construction of a new southbound on-ramp at the Cottman Avenue Interchange, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. 

During the lane closures, crews will be removing rumble strips and eradicating and repainting lane markings for an upcoming minor southbound traffic shift through the ramp construction zone.

In addition, lane closures will be in place on the following streets on Monday, July 11, through Friday, July 15, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for utility, road and sidewalk construction:

• Levick Street, in both directions between Keystone Street and the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge ramp;
• New State Road, in both directions between Levick Street and Unruh Avenue;
• Elbridge Street, in the vicinity of the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge, in both directions between Tacony Street and New State Road; and
• Milnor Street, in both directions between Bleigh Avenue and New State Road.
  

In addition to building a new ramp from Cottman Avenue to southbound I-95, PennDOT, the City of Philadelphia and project stakeholders identified additional improvements needed in the area to complete the I-95 Section CP3 project.

These improvements include:

• Reconstructing Wissinoming Street;
• Constructing left-turn lanes at the New State Road/Magee Avenue intersection;
• Improving pedestrian and bicycle facilities on Princeton Avenue;
• Constructing a retaining wall to support the new on-ramp;
• Upgrading traffic signals at the New State Road/Elbridge Street, New State Road/Magee Avenue, State Road/Princeton Avenue, and State Road/Cottman Avenue intersections;
• Constructing permanent speed tables on "Old" State Road;
• Removing abandoned rail sidings, resurfacing, and constructing additional sidewalks on Milnor Street;
• Performing landscape enhancements in the Milnor Street/Princeton Avenue area;
• Upgrading lighting to LED;
• Paving railroad siding area under the I-95/Bleigh Avenue overpass;
• Painting vertical concrete surfaces; and
• Relocating a sanitary sewer culvert.
  

C. Abbonizio Contractors, Inc. of Sewell, N.J., is the general contractor on the $52.7 million project, which is financed with 100% federal funds. Construction on the entire project is expected to finish in spring 2024.

I-76 East or West to Close at Night Next Week for Viaduct Construction in Center City Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – Alternating closures of either eastbound or westbound Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in the vicinity of 30th Street in Center City Philadelphia will occur on Monday, July 11, through Thursday, July 14, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for overhead viaduct construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

When eastbound I-76 is closed between 30th Street and South Street, traffic will be directed to use the off-ramp at 30th Street, turn left on Chestnut Street, then turn right on Schuylkill Avenue to the ramp back to eastbound I-76 at Walnut Street.

When westbound I-76 is closed between 30th Street and Interstate 676, I-76 motorists will exit at 30th Street and follow Schuylkill Avenue to the ramp back to westbound I-76 at Market Street.

In addition, motorists are reminded that eastbound Market Street (Route 3) is reduced to a single lane 24/7 between Schuylkill Avenue West and 24th Street for the next several months for repairs to the Market Street Bridge over the Schuylkill River.

Drivers are advised to use alternate routes or allow extra time when traveling through the work area because significant backups and delays will occur. All operations are weather dependent. 

The work is part of PennDOT's substantially completed $105.1 million project to rehabilitate the Chestnut Street bridge over the Schuylkill River — which reopened in March  — and eight other nearby structures, including the viaducts carrying Schuylkill Avenue over I-76 between Walnut Street and Market Street.

Buckley & Company Inc., of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 80% federal and 20% state funds. The entire project is scheduled to finish this summer.

Route 23 (Conshohocken State Road) Lane Closure at Night Next Week for Resurfacing in Lower Merion Township

King of Prussia, PA -- A lane closure with flagging is scheduled on Route 23 (Conshohocken State Road) between Page Terrace and Gunning Lane in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County, on Sunday, July 10, through Thursday, July 14, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning for milling and paving, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work is part of a PennDOT project to improve travel and safety on Route 23 (Conshohocken State Road) through the Spring Mill Road intersection. The contractor will construct a new right turn lane on eastbound Route 23 (Conshohocken State Road) to accommodate a dedicated right, left and thru travel lane at the Spring Mill Road intersection.

Additional improvements under the contract include upgrading traffic signals; constructing ADA compliant pedestrian facilities; milling and paving; and installing enhanced pavement markings.

In addition to the nighttime lane closure next week, Route 23 (Conshohocken State Road) motorists will continue to encounter a weekday lane closure with flagging from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM between Page Terrace and Gunning Lane for various construction activities under this project.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Marino Corporation of Skippack, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the $1,176,775 project, which is financed with 100% federal funds. Construction on the entire project is expected to finish in Spring 2023.
