U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) Lane Closures Next Week for Guide Rail Installation in Concord, Chadds Ford, Pennsbury Townships

King of Prussia, PA – U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) motorists will encounter a lane closure in both directions between Chadds Ford School Drive/Fairville Road and Pole Cat Road on Tuesday, September 6, through Friday, September 9, from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM the following morning for guide rail installation under a project to repair and resurface approximately six miles of the highway in Chadds Ford and Concord townships, Delaware County, and Pennsbury Township, Chester County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike) improvement project, PennDOT's contractor will mill, overlay, and rehabilitate the existing pavement; perform concrete patching and concrete base repair as needed; construct new concrete curbed median; install new pavement markings, rumble strips, delineators, and signs; and upgrade guiderail and curb ramps.

Allan Myers, LP of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the $13.7 million project, which is financed with 80% federal and 20% state funds.

PennDOT To Host Open House for Frankford Avenue Bridge Rehabilitation Project over Frankford Creek in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will hold an open house public plans display on Wednesday, September 14, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Mariana Bracetti Academy Charter School Cafeteria at 1840 Torresdale Avenue in Philadelphia (enter cafeteria from Jasper Street), to inform citizens about the proposed project to rehabilitate the bridge that carries Frankford Avenue over Frankford Creek in Philadelphia.

The purpose of this open house is to present and gather public feedback on the proposed design plans and traffic control for the project. The meeting will be conducted as an open-house plans display where citizens will have the opportunity to circulate among the subject displays to gather information and discuss the different facets of the project with PennDOT's design team.

The project to rehabilitate the 119-year-old Frankford Avenue Bridge is currently in preliminary engineering. The proposed improvements include replacement of the bridge superstructure and reuse of the existing bridge abutments. Protective railing will be added between the sidewalk and Frankford Creek along East Hunting Park Avenue. The bridge superstructure design includes a decorative railing to mimic the existing railing.

Construction bids on this project are expected to open in late 2023.

Several State Highways Restricted at Night Next Week for Crack Sealing Operations in Delaware County

King of Prussia, PA – Several state highways in Delaware County will be restricted on Tuesday, September 6, through Friday, September 9, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for crack sealing operations, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work locations are:

Route 452 (Market Street/Pennell Road) between 10th Street and Marianville Road in Marcus Hook Borough, Lower Chichester, Upper Chichester, and Aston townships;
Knowlton Road between Route 452 (Pennell Road) and Route 352 (New Middletown Road) in Aston and Middletown townships;
Kerlin Street/8th Street between 9th Street and Main Street in Upland Borough and City of Chester;
Route 320 (Chester Road) between Route 252 (Providence Road) and Baltimore Pike in Nether Providence and Springfield townships and Swarthmore Borough;
College Avenue/Railroad Avenue between Darby Road and Carter Road in Haverford Township;
Coopertown Road/Landover Road/County Line Road/Old Lancaster Road between College Avenue and U.S. 30 (Lancaster Avenue) in Haverford Township;
Lawrence Road between Route 3 (West Chester Pike) and Eagle Road in Haverford Township;
Manoa Road between Eagle Road and Farwood Road in Haverford Township;
Earlington Road between Township Line Road and Eagle Road in Haverford Township;
Lynn Boulevard between Township Line Road and Route 3 (West Chester Pike) in Upper Darby Township; and
Haverford Road/Karakung Drive between Eagle Road and Manoa Road in Haverford Township.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All operations are weather dependent and subject to change.

The work is part of a PennDOT project to perform crack sealing operations on state highways across the five-county Philadelphia region.

Road-Con, Inc. of West Chester, Chester County is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 100% state funds.

Henry Avenue Weekday/Weeknight Periodic Lane Closure for Safety Project in Philadelphia

King of Prussia, PA – A periodic weekday lane closure is scheduled in both directions on Henry Avenue between Barnes Street and Port Royal Avenue in Philadelphia beginning Tuesday, September 6, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, for roadway work under a project to improve travel and safety on a 3.2-mile section of Henry Avenue, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today. The periodic lane closure will be in place through late September.

In addition, beginning Monday, September 12, a periodic weeknight lane closure will be in place, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, through late September for paving operation.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will install or upgrade traffic signals at several intersections to include new mast arms, controllers, signal heads, timing optimization, signal interconnectivity and pedestrian countdown timers. Updated traffic signal timing will be implemented at the Walnut Lane intersection and a traffic signal will be installed at the Barnes Street Intersection, as well as a red-light warning flashing signal just north of the Port Royal Intersection.

Additional improvements on Henry Avenue include: New signing and roadway design features through pavement markings; Milling and resurfacing; Median widening; and Guiderail replacement.

To improve traffic flow and reduce congestion on Henry Avenue, improvements include: Extending the southbound restricted parking between Monastery Avenue and Walnut Lane; Eliminating the channelized right turn lanes at the Gates Street and Wigard Avenue intersections; Adding a raised concrete median at Valley Avenue to eliminate left turns; and Lengthening the northbound left turn lane at Livezey Lane.

To enhance pedestrian and bicyclist mobility, the contractor will construct a shared-use bicycle and pedestrian path along the east side of Henry Avenue between Barnes Street and Walnut Lane. Other safety enhancements include installing bump-outs at 15 intersections and ADA curb ramps at various intersections along the corridor.

The project will feature the addition of speed calming measures on this section of Henry Avenue that sees an average daily traffic volume of 29,000 vehicles daily. The features include 35 mph pavement markings adjacent to speed limit signs; oversized speed limit signs with orange diamonds; electronic speed feedback signs north of Leverington Avenue and north of Cinnaminson Street; and speed limit signs and hidden driveway signs south of Cinnaminson Street.

The project will also address storm water management through storm drainage, water facility relocation, and green stormwater infrastructure.

During construction, PennDOT will maintain traffic on Henry Avenue by utilizing long-term lane shifts and short-term lane closures.

Road-Con, Inc. of West Chester, Chester County is the general contractor on the $12.8 million project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. The entire project is scheduled to finish in late 2023. More information is available at www.Penndot.gov/HenryAvePhilly.

PennDOT to Begin Project to Repair 17 Bridges Across Philadelphia Region Damaged by Ida

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 6, on a project to repair 17 bridges in Bucks, Chester, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties that sustained serious damage from the remnants of Hurricane Ida in September 2021.

PennDOT's contractor will address undermining or scour by repairing and reinforcing the support systems and foundations at these 17 structures to maintain them as safe and efficient crossings for the traveling public.

Beginning Tuesday, September 6, through late December, periodic lane closures will be in place on Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM through late December on the following four structures:

Allentown Road over Licking Creek, Milford Township, Bucks County;
Route 313 (Dublin Pike) over Branch of Neshaminy Creek, New Britain and Plumstead townships, Bucks County;
U.S. 202 (East State Street) over Watson Creek, Buckingham Township, Bucks County; and
U.S. 202 (Lower York Road) over Branch of Aquetong Creek, Solebury Township, Bucks County.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. The schedule is weather dependent.

The other structures included in this bridge improvement project include the following:

Route 32 (River Road) over Ridge Creek, Tinicum Township, Bucks County;

Almshouse Road over Branch of Neshaminy Creek, Doylestown Township, Bucks County;
Route 926 (Street Road) over Branch of White Clay Creek, West Marlborough Township, Chester County;
Swedesford Road over Little Valley Creek, Tredyffrin Township, Chester County;
Boot Road over Valley Creek, East Caln Township, Chester County;
West Locust Street over Branch of Tweed Creek, Oxford Borough, Chester County;
Gum Tree Road over Branch of Doe Run, Highland Township, Chester County;
Route 23 (Valley Forge Road) over Valley Creek, Schuylkill Township, Chester County;
Route 82 (Doe Run Road) over Black Run, West Marlborough and East Fallowfield townships, Chester County;
Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike) over Little Neshaminy Creek, Montgomery Township, Montgomery County;
Bethlehem Pike over Sandy Run Creek, Whitemarsh Township, Montgomery County;
Eagleville Road over Skippack Creek, Lower Providence Township, Montgomery County; and
U.S. 13 (Frankford Avenue) over Pennypack Creek, Philadelphia.

Loftus Construction, Inc. of Cinnaminson, NJ, is the general contractor on this $3.2 million bridge repair project, which is financed with 80% federal and 20% state funds. Work on the entire project is expected to be completed in spring 2023.

King of Prussia, PA -- Interstate 95 and Interstate 295 motorists in Bucks County will encounter a lane closure in both directions between the Route 413 (Bristol) and Business U.S. 1/Route 413 (Penndel/Levittown) interchanges in Bristol and Middletown townships on Thursday, September 8, and Friday, September 9, from 7:30 PM to 5:30 AM the following morning for bridge construction activities under a project to perform high-priority repairs on 13 structures on I-95, I-295 and Interstate 476 in Philadelphia, Bucks and Delaware counties, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Repairs to the 13 structures include replacing rocker bearings, frozen sliding plate bearings and deck expansion joints; cleaning and painting steel beams; repairing substructure concrete; and reconstructing bearing pedestals.

In addition, the project includes the replacement of 24 high mast light poles along the I-95 corridor in Philadelphia and Delaware counties.

Driscoll Construction Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the $39.4 million project, which is financed with 100% federal funds. Construction is expected to finish in Spring 2024.

I-95 Lane Closures at Night Next Week for Roadway Construction in Delaware County

King of Prussia, PA – Single and double lane closures are scheduled at night next week on Interstate 95 in Delaware County between the Route 352/Route 320 (Exit 6) and Philadelphia International Airport (Exit 12) interchanges for various construction activities under a project to rehabilitate pavement and repair 15 structures on more than 11 miles of the interstate in Lower Chichester, Upper Chichester, Chester, Ridley and Tinicum townships, the City of Chester and Upland and Ridley Park boroughs, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today.

The work schedule is:

Tuesday, September 6, through Thursday, September 8, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on sections of northbound and southbound I-95;
Friday, September 9, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 10:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on sections of northbound and southbound I-95; and
Saturday, September 10, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 11:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on sections of southbound I-95.

During all of these operations, the ramps from northbound and southbound I-95 to Ridley Park (Exit 8) and Route 420 (Exit 9A/9B) will be closed and detoured. I-95 motorists will be directed to follow the posted detour routes.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this project, PennDOT's contractor will mill, overlay and rehabilitate the existing concrete pavement including 41 ramps; perform minor structural repairs to 15 of the 33 bridges located in the project limits; repair sections of median barrier; upgrade guide rail; install new pavement markings, delineators and rumble strips; repair and clean existing inlets and pipes; and replace damaged or missing traffic signs. The Pennsylvania Welcome Center just north of the Delaware state line also will be improved with concrete base repairs and new parking stripes, pavement markings and signs.

Allan Myers, Inc. of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the $73 million project, which is financed with 80% federal and 20% state funds. The entire project is expected to be completed by Summer 2024.
